[0001] The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing a fascicle and the like
with a diskette and the like inserted therein.
[0002] It is known that there is an increasingly widespread need to insert in fascicles,
books, publications and the like, diskettes, floppy disks, CDs or other similar items
which constitute a medium for multimedia uses being associated with the text.
[0003] The solutions currently in use entail providing, on the stack of sheets or signatures
to be joined in order to form the fascicle, book or the like, an envelope which is
provided open and is bound together with the other sheets.
[0004] Once binding has been performed, the intended cover has been applied and the sheets
have been trimmed, the diskette and the like is inserted in the envelope entirely
by hand.
[0005] Clearly, this method is very expensive due to the significant input of manual work
that is required.
[0006] Another solution which allows to automatically apply the diskette or the like inside
the fascicle entails inserting the diskette in appropriately provided pockets formed
inside the cover; this solution is extremely expensive owing to the constructive complexity
of the cover, which must directly provide the pockets required for the insertion of
the diskette; this solution is also very rigid from a manufacturing point of view,
since it does not allow to insert, or not insert, the diskette inside the fascicle.
[0007] Moreover, another drawback is that the solution with the diskette inserted in the
cover does not allow to separate the diskette holder from the fascicle.
[0008] The aim of the present invention is to eliminate the drawbacks noted above, by providing
a method for manufacturing a fascicle and the like in which a diskette and the like
is inserted, the method allowing to insert the diskette in the envelope fully automatically
without thereby modifying the conventional steps of the manufacture of the fascicle.
[0009] Within this aim, a particular object of the invention is to provide a method which
allows to apply the diskettes in any kind of publication, with the additional advantage
of removing, if required, the envelope with the diskette from the resulting fascicle.
[0010] Another object of the present invention is to provide a method which, thanks to its
particular constructive characteristics, is capable of giving the greatest assurances
of reliability and safety in use.
[0011] Another object of the present invention is to provide a method which can be easily
obtained starting from commonly commercially available elements and materials and
is further competitive from a merely economical point of view.
[0012] This aim and these and other objects which will become better apparent hereinafter
are achieved by a method for manufacturing a fascicle and the like with a diskette
and the like inserted therein, according to the invention, characterized in that it
comprises the steps of: providing an envelope which forms a region for containing
a diskette and the like which is bordered, on at least two mutually perpendicular
sides, by a border band; inserting a diskette in said envelope; superimposing the
envelope with the diskette on a stack of sheets to be joined to form a fascicle; applying
a cover for containing said sheets; and trimming the edges of said sheets, applying
pressure to said stack of sheets except for the region affected by said diskette.
[0013] Further characteristics and advantages of the invention will become better apparent
from the following detailed description of a preferred but not exclusive embodiment
of a method for manufacturing a fascicle and the like with a diskette and the like
inserted therein, illustrated only by way of non-limitative example in the accompanying
drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective schematic view of the envelope during the insertion of a
diskette and the like, according to the present invention;
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the application of the envelope, with the diskette
inside it, on top of a stack of sheets or signatures;
Figure 3 is a perspective schematic view of the step for the application of pressure
to the stack of sheets after applying the cover;
Figure 4 is a schematic view of the trimming of the edges of the fascicle;
Figure 5 is a perspective schematic view of the resulting fascicle.
[0014] With reference to the figures, the method for manufacturing a fascicle and the like
with a diskette and the like inserted therein entails providing first of all an envelope
1, which can be obtained in the most disparate manners; the envelope 1 must provide
a region 2 inside which it is possible to insert a diskette or the like 3, which can
be constituted by a CD, a floppy disk or other similar items.
[0015] The region 2 can be closed, for example, by means of a foldable flap 4 to which an
adhesive portion 5 can be applied.
[0016] An important characteristic is that the region 2 is bordered, on at least two mutually
perpendicular sides and preferably on three mutually consecutive sides constituted
by the sides that are not affected by the flap 4, by a border region 7 which is wide
enough to provide a free region both for applying pressure during the completion of
the fascicle, as described in greater detail hereinafter, and for trimming the stack
of sheets or signatures.
[0017] The resulting envelope, with the diskette already inserted therein, is superimposed
on a stack of sheets or signatures 10, arranging it so that a spine border band 7a,
i.e., the border band that lies opposite the region affected by the flap 4, is arranged
at the spine or back of the fascicle being formed, while the lateral portions 7b and
7c of the border band, which in practice are laterally adjacent to the region 2 where
the diskette 3 is inserted, can be arranged either at the upper edge or at the lower
edge of the stack of sheets.
[0018] Once the envelope 1, with the diskette inside it, has been superimposed on the stack
of sheets or signatures 10, a cover 15 is applied, performing assembly in the conventional
manners according to the various binding technologies being used.
[0019] In order to perform the complete assembly of the fascicle, pressure is applied to
the stack of sheets at at least one of the border regions; during this step, absolutely
no pressure is applied at the region affected by the diskette.
[0020] The presser 20, as shown schematically in Figure 3, can have for example an opening
21 at the region for containing the diskette 3.
[0021] The pressure is applied both to couple the cover and to achieve, by means of a conventional
cutting blade 30, the trimming of the edges of the sheets on three contiguous sides,
thus obtaining the intended fascicle.
[0022] It should be noted that the provision of the border bands at the back edge 7a and
at the lateral portions 7b and 7c allows, as regards the back edge region, to apply
the pressure to the back edge of the stack of sheets being bound and, as regards the
lateral portions, to trim the stack of sheets without thereby damaging or otherwise
affecting the region in which the diskette is located.
[0023] Moreover, it is optionally possible to provide, at the back edge 7a of the border
band, a pre-scoring line, designated by the reference numeral 8, which allows, if
required, to remove the envelope from the fascicle, providing an element for containing
the diskette.
[0024] From the above description it is therefore evident that the invention achieves the
intended aim and objects, and in particular the fact is stressed that a fascicle is
provided in which the diskette can be inserted automatically, since it is already
preset in the envelope that is assembled to the stack of sheets or signatures.
[0025] The invention thus conceived is susceptible of numerous modifications and variations,
all of which are within the scope of the inventive concept.
[0026] All the details may further be replaced with other technically equivalent elements.
[0027] In practice, the materials employed, as well as the contingent shapes and dimensions,
may be any according to requirements.
