(57) A vacuum cleaner is disclosed for separating particulate matter from air. The vacuum cleaner includes a container 1 comprising an outer container portion 12 and an inner container portion 14, a first separation stage for depositing particular matter in the outer contain portion 12, and a plurality of further separation stages downstream of the first separation stage for depositing particulate matter in the inner container portion 14.
