(57) A mascara dispenser including a pen-shaped (10) body having a reservoir (16) for holding mascara, an applicator (22) retractably carried by the body (10) so as to be movable between a location in the reservoir and a location outside the body, a wiper (30) for the applicator (22) within the reservoir, and a movable member (32) within the reservoir (16) and responsive to the location of the applicator (22) for keeping the wiper (30) out of contact with the applicator (22) during retraction of the applicator into the reservoir and keeping the wiper (30) in contact with the applicator (22) when the applicator is moved out of the reservoir (16).
