(57) The invention relates to a packaging (1) comprising a container (2) and a cover (3) pivotably connected to it in which said packaging (1) has been manufactured integrally from a broadsheet and the broadsheet is punched and folded in such a way that the side of the broadsheet which is intended to be printed faces outwards at the outside of the packaging and the same side also represents the view of the packaging (1) across at least part of the inside of the container (2), the cover (3) and the accompanying edges (19,20).




Description


[0001] Packaging comprising a container having a cover pivotably connected to it

[0002] The present invention relates to a packaging comprising a container with a cover pivotably connected to said container. Such packagings are known in various embodiments, in which the dimensions can vary from small boxes for e.g. cigars or cigarettes to large boxes for a wide variety of articles.

[0003] The packaging according to the invention is directed to smaller packagings generally for exclusive or luxury articles, in which the packaging should have an exclusive or luxury appearance corresponding to the articles. Such an appearance is substantially determined by the prints applied both at the outside and at the inside. The packages for e.g. cigars are usually manufactured from a number of different parts made of cardboard, namely, a bottom part, a raised edge to be mounted in the bottom part, a cover, and further a separate sheet of printed matter which will be applied across the complete outer surface of the packaging, except for the bottom side of the bottom part. This sheet of printed matter will hold at least the edges of the cover in the correct position in relation to the cover and functions as pivot connection between the container and the cover at the same time. After applying said sheet, it must be cut through on three sides along the closing line between cover and contain-er. Usually, one or two sheets of printed matter will further be applied inside the container.

[0004] It will be obvious that manufacture of such a packaging, in which one works with a number of different assembling parts, is relatively labour-intensive. Furthermore, positioning of the various sheets of printed matter to be applied is very critical, in which a false positioning will immediately catch the eye and will largely undo the appearance intended with the printed matter.

[0005] The object of the invention is to provide a packaging which does not have these disadvantages and can be manufactured in a simple way and at relatively low cost. Accordingly, according to the invention it is provided for, that the packaging can be integrally manufactured from one broadsheet, in which said broadsheet is punched and folded in such a way, that a predetermined side of the broadsheet at the outside faces outwards and the same side also represents the view of the packaging across at least part of the inside of the container and/or cover.

[0006] The great advantage of the packaging according to the invention is that it consists of only one part, which can be printed in one go before folding said packaging and bringing it into the desired shape. By further providing for that from at least the bottom of the container and/or the inner surface of the cover, the predetermined side represents the view, the desired print of the inner side of the packaging can be provided. Therefore, the complete packaging can be provided with the desired print in one printing step.

[0007] According to a further elaboration it is also provided for, that the view of the inner side of one or more of the edges of the container and cover is determined by the predetermined side of the broadsheet. In this way, the edges at the inside of the packaging can be provided with print as well, in which a print continuing on the inside is also among the possibilities.

[0008] The fact that a predetermined side of the broadsheet represents both the outside of the packaging and parts of the inside, is achieved by folding parts of the broadsheet inwards. An important advantage is that this yields a reinforcement of the packaging and therefore one could use a much thinner material than the cardboard usually employed for such packagings.

[0009] Since the punched and preprinted packaging according to the invention further only needs to be folded along applied folding lines and possibly be glued at some positions, this could just as easily be performed by the buyer, such as e.g. a cigar manufacturer. This means that the packaging can be delivered at the buyer's in broadsheet and provided with the desired print, as a result of which he requires much less space for storing the packaging then when the packaging would be supplied as finished product. Further advantages are that the packagings delivered in this way are significantly cheaper and that the buyer can be more flexible in subsequent packaging of different products.

[0010] According to a further elaboration, a broadsheet for the packaging is provided, in which at least one edge of the container and/or cover consists of a first edge portion and a second edge portion being connected to it and being parallel to it, in which said first portion is connected to the bottom of the container or the cover and in which a flap, intended for covering at least part of the bottom of the container or the inner surface of the cover, is connected to the second edge portion. According to a further elaboration, it is further preferably provided for, that at opposite sides of the broadsheet, the edges comprise a first and a second edge portion, a flap being connected to each second edge portion, said flaps being intended for respectively covering at least part of the bottom of the container or the inner surface of the cover. Thus, the large surfaces of the packaging can be provided with the desired print in one run.

[0011] Further, it has preferably also been provided for, that the edges at two opposite sides of the bottom of the container and/or the cover consist of at least two edge portions. This yields a reinforcement of the edge which can be further enhanced by providing a third edge portion which can be glued to a bottom.

[0012] Finally, it has been provided for, that at least one of the edge portions of the edges at opposite sides of the broad sheet of the bottom of the container and the cover are provided with laterally protruding lips. By such lips, the edges of container and cover can be mutually connected. Preferably, said lips will come to lie beneath folded-down edge portions.

[0013] The material for the packaging can e.g. be a thicker type of paper having favourable printing properties, a combination of thin cardboard having a paper layer or thin cardboard having a plastic film. However, it is pointed out emphatically, that one is not limited to only these materials for the packaging and that basically the packaging can be manufactured from any material or combination of materials which can, provided with folding lines or scores or otherwise, can be folded or flanged according to the pattern of said packaging.

[0015] Fig. 1 shows the packaging 1 punched from a broadsheet, said packaging comprising a container 2 and cover 3 connected to one another. The container has a bottom part 4 with lateral edges 5, 6. Said lateral edges 5, 6 comprise the respective edge portions 7, 8, 9 and 10, 11, 12. The front edge 13 comprises the edge portions 14, 15 and a flap 16 connects to said edge 13.

[0016] The rear edge 17 of the container 2 comprises one single edge portion directly connecting to the plane 18 of the cover 3. Edges 19, 20 of said cover 3 each comprise three edge portions too, 21, 22, 23 and 24, 25, 26, respectively. The front edge 27 of cover 3 comprises edge portions 28, 29 and a flap 30 connects to said edge 27.

[0017] Edge portions 14, 17 and 28 are provided with outwardly protruding lips 31 being intended to be enclosed between edge portions of the respective edges 5, 6, 19, 20.

[0018] Finally, a recess 32 has been made in edge 27, symmetrically divided among the edge portions 28, 29, forming an engaging point in the front edge of the cover when the edge portions are folded-down, for easier opening of the packaging.

[0019] Figs. 2A-D illustrate successieve stages in the folding of the packaging. In fig. 2A, edges 5, 6, 13, 17, 19, 20, 27 are partly folded and lips 31 are folded to within the respective edges 5, 6 and 19, 20.

[0020] In Figs. 2B-C, the edge portions of edges 5, 6 are folded down, in which the edge portions 9 and 12 have been glued onto the bottom plane 4 of the container 2. The lips 31 of the edges 13, 17 are received between the raised edges 8, 9 and 10, 11 and are preferably glued too. In fig. 2D, edge portion 15 of front edge 13 is folded down and flap 16 is also folded down further in which it will come to lie on the bottom plane 4 of said container with its printed side up. Thereby, edge portions 9, 12 being glued on the bottom plane will also be hidden from view.

[0021] In figs. 3A-B, edges 19, 20 of cover 3 are folded partly and completely inwards, respectively, in which lips 31 of edge portion 27 have been received between the edge portions. There, edge portions 23 and 26 are glued against the inner plane 18 of cover 3. In fig. 3C, edge portion 29 of the front edge 27 of cover 3 is folded down and at the same time flap 30 is laid against the inner side 18 of the cover. In this way, edge portions 23, 26 are hidden from view. Flap 30 can likewise be fixed against the inner side of the cover so that it will remain bearing against the cover when opening the packaging.

[0022] Finally, fig. 4 illustrates the packaging in folded and glued condition in which, except for the inner side of edge 17, one looks at the printing side of the broadsheet. Recess 32 is an engagement position for being able to lift the cover.


Claims

1. Packaging comprising a container with a cover pivotably connected to it, characterized in that the packaging is integrally manufactured from a broadsheet, in which said broadsheet is punched and folded in such a way, that a predetermined side of the broadsheet at the outside faces outwards and the same side represents the view of the packaging across at least part of the inside of the container and/or cover.
 
2. Packaging according to claim 1, characterized in that from at least the bottom of the container and/or the inner surface of the cover, the predetermined side represents the view.
 
3. Packaging according to claims 1 - 2, characterized in that the view of the inner side of one or more of the edges of the container and cover is determined by the predetermined side of the broadsheet.
 
4. Broadsheet for a packaging according to claims 1-3, in which bottom and edges for the container and cover and edges for the cover have been incorporated and in which the cover is connected to one side at an edge of the container, characterized in that at least one edge of the container and/or cover consists of a first edge portion and a second edge portion being connected to it and being parallel to it, in which said first portion is connected to the bottom of the container or the cover and in which a flap, intended for covering at least part of the bottom of the container or the inner surface of the cover, is connected to the second edge portion.
 
5. Broadsheet according to claim 4, characterized in that at opposite sides of the broadsheet, the edges comprise a first and a second edge portion, a flap being connected to each second edge portion, said flaps being intended for respectively covering at least part of the bottom of the container or the inner surface of the cover.
 
6. Broadsheet according to claim 5, characterized in that the edges at two oppositie sides of the bottom of the container and/or the cover consist of at least two edge portions.
 
7. Broadsheet according to claim 6, characterized in that at least one of the edge portions of the edges at opposite sides of the broad sheet of the bottom of the container and the cover are provided with laterally protruding lips.
 
8. Broadsheet according to claims 6-7, characterized in that the edge between the bottom and the lip is provided with laterally protruding lips.
 
9. Broadsheet according to claims 4-8, characterized in that a recess or an opening has been made in at least one of the edges or edge portions.
 
10. Broadsheet according to claim 4, characterized in that the broadsheet has been manufactured from paper or cardboard or a combination thereof.
