Armoured rose to prevent break-ins |
(57) The invention concerns an armoured rose (3) for a vehicle door handle (1) with the
objective of preventing break-ins into vehicles using a screwdriver or similar object
forcibly inserted between the door handle and the door, which can be used to defeat
the latching system of the door. The armoured (3) has a midled depression (3a) such
that the rose (3) fits closely around and under the door handle (1) at the latching
system (1a), and also has an opening (3b) which fits closely around the latching system
(1a) of the door handle (1).

|
[0001] The invention concerns an armoured rose for a vehicle door handle with the objective
of preventing a straightforward, and therefore common, way of breaking into vehicles.
[0002] A number of vans can easily be broken into as the coachwork around the door handle
provides insufficient protection. A screwdriver or similar object can easily be used
to defeat the door latch by forcibly inserting the screwdriver between the door handle
and coachwork, bending the coachwork in that area, and thereby accessing the latching
mechanism of the door handle.
[0003] The objective of the invention is to prevent the above method of breaking in. This
is achieved by installing an armoured rose under and around the door handle.
[0004] The invention will be described using the following figures.
Figure 1 shows an exploded view of the assembly consisting of the door handle (1)
with latching system (1a) and handle (1b), the armoured rose (3), secured around the
door handle (1) in front of the latching system (1a) of the door handle (1) on the
door (2), around the opening (2a) in the partly shown coachwork (2) using four threaded
rods fixed by welding (4), two fixing strips (5) and four nuts (6). Four small slotted
apertures (2b) are made in the coachwork (2) for this purpose. The dashed line (2c)
indicates the depression for the handle (1b) in the vehicle door.
Figure 2 shows a cross-section of the assembled armoured rose protection for the door
handle (1) with the latching system (1b), at a right angle to the coachwork (2) and
at a right angle to the door handle (1). The armoured rose (3) which is secured on
the inside of the coachwork panel (2) around the aperture (2a) using four threaded
rods (4) welded to the armoured rose (3), two fixing strips (5) and four nuts (6).
[0005] At the location of the door handle (1) the armoured rose (3) is accurately milled
to create a depression (3a) corresponding to the shape of the door handle (1). The
depression (3b) in the armoured rose (3) fits closely around the latching system (1a).
[0006] By installing the armoured rose (3) between the door handle (1) and the coachwork
panel (2), the interior of the door close to the latching system (1a) is no longer
easily accessible from the exterior, and a break-in employing the described method,
using a screwdriver or similar object is no longer possible.
[0007] The armoured rose according to this invention is not limited to the embodiments shown
in the figures and described above. Several variations are possible within the scope
of the invention.
[0008] For example, the shape, material, fixing method and dimensions of the various described
elements of the invention can be varied freely.
[0009] The invention is not limited in its use in other situations or applications.
1. Armoured rose for a door handle of a vehicle door with the characteristic that the
armoured rose (3) has a milled depression (3a) such that the armoured rose (3) fits
closely around and under the door handle (1) at the latching system (1a), and which
rose also has an opening (3) which fits closely around the latching system (1a) of
the door handle (1).
2. Armoured rose for a door handle of a vehicle door according to claim 1, characterised in that the armoured rose (3) is fitted with four threaded rods (4) for securing the armoured
rose (3) on the interior of the coachwork panel (2) using two fixing strips (5) and
four nuts (6).
