(54) Foundations


(57) A foundation for a dwelling or other building comprises a plurality of insulating members 10 in laid in an array on the surface of the ground. The insulating members 10 are interconnected by flanges 13 to form a continuous ground covering. A reinforcing cage 20 extends around the array and reinforcing rods 21 extend along the gaps between adjacent rows and columns of the insulating members 10. A reinforcing grid 22 extends over the members and is joined around its periphery to the cage 20.
Concrete is poured to cover the insulating members 10 and a peripheral step 29 is formed on which a course of bricks 25 can be laid.
