[0001] The invention refers to a toilet, or water closet, or WC, of the wall-hung type.
[0002] WC bowls of the wall-hung type are currently known to the art: they are mounted on
pegs protruding from a vertical wall, which engage a lower portion of the bowl, and
remain supported by said pegs. A drawback of said WC bowls lies in the relative difficulty
in assembly: in fact two persons are needed to carry out installation, one to keep
the toilet bowl raised, the other to insert and tighten the fixing nuts.
[0003] A first aim of the invention is to facilitate assembly of a WC of the wall-hung type.
[0004] A further aim of the invention is to provide such a WC with accessory functions to
make use thereof more pleasant.
[0005] Said aim have been achieved with a WC as stated in claim 1 and a WC bowl as stated
in claim 5. Further advantageous characteristics can be read in the dependent claims.
[0006] In other words, the present invention refers to a WC of the wall-hung type wherein
the pan or bowl thereof, in its rear portion destined to be placed adjacent the supporting
wall, is provided with one or more upwardly open compartments or recesses, which define
portions of wall of the bowl provided with fixing means and accessible from the outside.
[0007] In particular, the compartments define portions of wall of the bowl provided with
through holes.
[0008] The bowl is easily mounted in position by a single operator by slipping said holes
on to threaded pegs protruding from the supporting wall, then the operator, operating
easily from above, screws and tightens the nuts on to the relative threaded pegs.
The compartments used for fixing are then advantageously used to accommodate perfuming
devices, available on the market, and/or musical devices, also available on the market.
[0009] A currently preferred embodiment of the invention, will be described below with reference
to the appended drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective view on a reduced scale of a WC bowl according to the invention:
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the WC according to the invention, complete with
bowl and cover,
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view taken along the planes marked 3-3 in Figure
2, and also shows a fixing device.
[0010] With reference to the figures, a WC according to the invention is denoted as a whole
with reference numeral 10 and comprises a pan or bowl 12 and a cover 14.
[0011] The bowl 12 is of the wall-hung type, that is to say without a floor-mounted supporting
pedestal. In the usual manner, it incorporates an upwardly open bowl part 15, a trap
part 16, a flushing water inlet pipe 18, and a waste pipe 20.
[0012] According to the invention, the portion 22 of the bowl that is nearest the supporting
wall when the pan is installed has two upwardly open compartments 24 and 26 situated
alongside each other. Each of the compartments delimits a mounting wall, 25 and 27,
respectively, and each mounting wall has a though hole, 29 and 30, respectively, passing
through it. The centre distance between the holes 29 and 30 preferably corresponds
to the centre distance between the supporting pegs of a standard built-in cistern
available on the market. Cisterns of this type are marketed by Geberit GmbH, for example.
Such a threaded fixing peg is illustrated in Figure 3 and denoted with reference numeral
32. It is evident that the bowl 12 can easily be mounted by a single operator, by
sliding it on to the load-bearing pegs 32 of a built in cistern of a known type, not
illustrated. The bowl thus rests temporarily on the pegs 32. The operator then, by
straddling the bowl, for example, can easily perform the operations necessary for
connection and fit and tighten the nuts 33 on the pegs 32.
[0013] After assembly, the compartments 24, 26 can be used to provide the WC with useful
or pleasant items. A WC equipped, for example, with a musical device and or a perfume
diffusing device comes within the scope of the present invention. Suitable devices
are available on the market and as much are not a subject of this invention.
[0014] The bowl 12 is suitably provided with a cover 14, which comprises a seat part 41
and a lid part 42, both of the usual tip-up type, and, according to the invention,
a stationery rear part 44 which covers the compartments 24, 26. The rear part 44 can
be suitably shaped with one or more holes 45, 46 coinciding with the compartments
24, 26, to allow the perfume or the sound to be given out and allow access to any
control buttons.
[0015] Further variants of the invention may come to the mind of a person skilled in the
art: it is understood that all variants in the reach of a person skilled in the art
having a normal experience come within the scope of the invention as set forth in
the appended claims.
1. A water closet of the wall-hung type comprising a bowl (12) and a cover (14), characterised in that the bowl comprises, in its rear portion, namely that destined to be placed against
a supporting wall, at least one upwardly open compartment (24, 26), and one or more
apertures (29, 30) in the wall of said portion, for engagement of fixing means.
2. A water closet according to claim 1, wherein the apertures are two through holes,
with a centre distance equal to the distance between the supporting pegs of a cistern
for wall mounting.
3. A water closet according to claim 1 characterised in that it further comprises, in said at least one compartment, one or more of the following
items: a perfume diffusing device; a musical device.
4. A water closet according to claim 3 further comprising a cover, characterised in that it comprises a stationery rear part (44) of the cover provided with apertures for
the passage of sound or perfume and/or for access to controls of said devices.
5. A bowl for a WC of the wall-hung type, comprising a rear part (22) for passage of
pegs protruding from the wall, characterised in that it has, in said rear part, at least an upwardly open compartment (24, 26), which
delimits a rear wall, and holes (29, 30) in said rear part to receive and fix said
pegs.
