[0001] Set of devices for covering and protecting window and door frames until these are
installed on site.
[0002] The technical field of this patent is that of windows, doors and frames.
[0003] Building work is characterised by the simultaneous presence in a single building
of a number of people from the trades involved for installing the different facilities,
there in order to install, complete these and satisfy the builder and owner with their
work.
[0004] One of the problems is the different trades involved. The carpenter knows how to
take care of wood. The mason takes care of tiling, flooring or renderings, but painters
take even greater care, as they solve the flaws left by the previous two. For this
reason, carpentry items can also undergo harm, when the staff, belongings and equipment
go through the windows, doors or even inside the buildings.
[0005] Scratching wooden carpentry always involves the possible solution of rectification
of its surface, albeit difficult and expensive. But this is difficult on aluminium
or PVC carpentries, in which a deep scratch or a blow definitively deteriorate the
smooth effect, thus being undesirable, and subject in certain cases to certain liability
on the builder's part, having to change these if they are rejected by the customer,
and entailing serious losses.
Statement of the previous state of the art.
[0006] The cellophane protective film which tends to be used to cover profiles is well-known.
It involves the disadvantage of its weakness and that its covering, only when kept
in good condition, provides protection only against paint or splashing, not against
scratching or blows.
[0007] ES U133820 consists in a device which adds a spacer preventing blows to carpentries
already installed.
[0008] ES U166.375 for a protective device for windows, consisting of a horizontal double
"U" set on both sides of a crosspiece, so that by inserting these "U"s on the profiles
of the carpentry, this acts as a rail.
[0009] The present invention has as its object a set of devices for covering and protecting
frames of windows and doors until these are installed on site. The covering devices
are also reusable, and their nature means that they are compatible with the work of
rendering or finishing interior or exterior walls, and allow a wide range of possibilities
for covering any length, width and height of frame. They also refer in particular
to the modes of structuring profiles which take on a mixed configuration in many cases
to adapt to the requirements such as those of covering the spaces of guides for blinds,
as well as being structured so as to allow the accommodation of seals at their ends.
They can be composed and constituted of foamy, reticulated or amorphous materials,
metal or non-metal, adapting to the different forms of frame, the different possible
configurations of wall, etc.. We also present an embodiment in which the coupling
between the two lateral profiles and the central one is done by a quick-connection
system, which allows in all cases adaptation by means of using intermediate profiles
of different sizes, to the same ones of frames which have to be protected.
[0010] In order to make the following explanation clearer, eleven sheets of drawings are
accompanied in which nineteen figures represent the essence of the present invention.
Figure 1 shows a schematic front view of a window covered by protective profiles.
Figure 2 shows a view of the protective profile of the vertical parts of the frames.
Figure 3 shows a section of this profile from Figure 2.
Figure 4 shows a set of three of four profiles, consisting of several items so as
to cover the whole of said frame without the parts of which these consist overlapping.
Figure 5 shows a device in a "U" shape and anti-scratching protector.
Figure 6 shows a device like the one of figure 5, without a protector.
Figure 7 shows a tube-shaped protector open longitudinally.
Figure 8 represents a perspective view of a window frame.
Figure 9 shows a sectional view of a frame and its protection with a "U" shaped profile.
Figure 10 shows a sectional view of a frame and its protection with a profile in closed
extension.
Figure 11 shows a sectional view of a frame and its protection with a profile in open

Figure 19 represents a sectional view of a frame and its protection which has a wraparound
rear seal. In these figures 1 represents the frame, whatever its nature and material
may be, insofar as it is covered by the content of this report, and is vulnerable
to damage or ill treatment; 2 is the lateral covering, 3 the lower covering, 4 the
upper covering, 5 the coupling flanges, 6 the inner side of the protection profiles,
7 the holes for fixing the different profiles together.

section is formed of at least two pieces, thus determining its total adaptability
to any dimension of window. And so 8 shows the vertical lower section, 9 the upper

[0012] The essence of the concept is to cover three of the four outer faces of the profile,
the ones that have external contact since the fourth is connected to the wall and
does not need to be protected, covering all the profiles by means of this invention.
[0013] With the items indicated 1 to 5 there is a highly effective arrangement, but limited
in its application and use to windows of unified size. This case occurs with some
regularity, so its sphere of application is not negligible. It can be completely dismantled
and, as can be appreciated in the figures that follow this first one described with
said numbers, it is fully reusable, since it has the flanges 5 common to practically
all the embodiments, which make up a total assembly of the parts, by means of flanges
5 and holes 7 to which a conventional screw is fixed, able to be a rivet, preferable
plastic, a heat bond or any similar type.
[0014] The layout stemming from figure 4 allows the possibility of the protection of a wide
range of sizes being enabled with a limited number of parts, insofar as it is also
useful to have intermediate parts, though these are not represented. So, according
to this embodiment, the covering of frames takes place by means of the protection
of the sides; afterwards the lower parts are secured and then the upper part. The
assembly thus assembled has greater cohesion and any accidental separation of the
items forming it proves difficult.
[0015] Since the reusable profiles will usefully be made of a lasting, light, easy to handle
material, the aluminium profile is preferred as ideal, without disregarding any other.
This material has the disadvantage of possibly being aggressive to the external paint
or protection of the frames. For this reason a solution has been planned consisting
of protecting the inner side 6 of the covering profiles.
[0016] The profiles are as has been described, formed by whole parts or by sections, which
are set out adjacently, corresponding to the frames, each one of these can partially
or totally cover each section of the frame, being complemented in the angles either
by a complementary mitred arrangement or by a an angle layout, in the case of the
arrangement of another section fully covering the angle.
[0017] The problem that could be caused by the protection device, since this is a "U" shaped
part, which embraces the profile over which this is placed, is that this could also
scratch said profile, as it should be inserted by displacement. This drawback is solved
by means of inner pockets which are set in each profile and which house mats like
the ones used in sliding windows as a closing seal, which facilitate the protective
profile movement and prevent friction.
[0018] The pockets can also house another type of anti-friction pieces, such as plastic
foam, polypropylene, or even a liner of expanded polystyrene. This will in any case
prevent friction when fitting and removing the protection.
[0019] These pockets may in this last case not be ultimately necessary, if the protection
profile is fully covered by the interior part.
[0020] We state alternatives as an example, not as a limitation, though the statement is
preferential.
[0021] The first of the solutions consists of forming a pocket 18 and the arrangement in
this of a strip of matting 19 which produces a support and also provides separation
between the frame and the protector, which absorbs any impact within certain bounds.
[0022] The second of the solutions consists of an inner covering 20 of the whole covering
profile. In this case, this is particularly a protection by means of foam, polypropylene,
polymerised polyvinyl with foaming agent or also expanded polystyrene set in very
fine layers. This part is not limitative.
[0023] The third of the solutions is applied for covering profiles, which are protected
except for the comers. It consists in the arrangement of a plastic cardboard or similar
tube of the appropriates thickness which, when properly cut, determines an opening
which allows this to be inserted and eliminated. Its nature, as has been said, means
that it is preferred for a single use, so it cannot be taken advantage of in general.
[0024] This is in short a matter of providing the covering profile with characteristics
that are not aggressive for the frame that this protects.
[0025] As has been described, the assembly starts from profiles that are extruded or formed
in great lengths, and cut off to make them match the dimensions of the corresponding
frames. The shape of each covering device depends on the shape of the profile and
the way this is to be fitted. They can be regular or of unequal section to the extent
that one of their flanges extends further than another.
[0026] One of the advantages meant by this stems from the fact that it also covers the tracks
along which the blinds run, preventing these from being used. This also protects the
surface of the slats of these blinds, which through not being movable, remain inside
the housing, protected, clean and free from dust and harm.
[0027] The means for securing the profiles to the carpentry is provided by the way they
are fixed to each other. This is done by the provision of flanges on the angle pieces,
which are fitted with an attachment by screwing, which can be replaced by silicon,
or by rivets, with the same effect. Rivets are more permanent and difficult to remove,
and should thus be used in marginal cases, on high-risk items, or in environmentally
unfavourable circumstances, beside demolition work, when the material is to be taken
precisely through that window space etc..
[0028] One possible application stems from the cohesion itself of the profile to the frame.
It is more appropriate for small jobs on which the care is greater.
[0029] The use of silicon facilitates temporary fixing and its relatively easy removal when
this is placed at specific points, and not spread along the profile.
[0030] The form of reuse consists in eliminating the securing attachment, whatever sort
may be chosen, and dismantling. After moving this to the workshop this is installed
on new carpentry items. In the event of the sizes not coinciding, items can proceed
to be added until the surface is covered.
[0031] The extension is indefinite, and can for example be made in sections covering large
windows installed with frames 30 metres or more in size; the height is also adaptable,
and standard profiles can be used for this, since the height is more common and limited
than the width.
[0032] Since the layout of a protector has its disadvantages when the frame of the window
or door is also attempted to be covered, so that a single protector covers both elements.
This is particularly the case because the profile of the blind is not always integrated
in the profile of the door frame, which means there may be different dimensions according
to each of the installations, which makes it almost impossible to forecast a single
dimension for this protection.
[0033] As can be appreciated in the drawings of figures 9 to 11, the structure of the protector
in a shape so that its items can overlap, essentially structuring a "U" shape in one
case or broken, open or closed in another depending on whether it is applied to a
blind whose guide is inserted in the wall or projects from this, as can be appreciated
by the protectors 26 in a "U" shape which according to the depth of the overlapping
between the ones indicated as 26.1 and 26.2 will determine the adaptation to the width
of the frame. Similarly the one shown as 30 which has three parts, the three forming
an angle so that 30.1 allows a variation in the depth of overlapping in respect of
30.2 and this part is able to be adapted to a greater or lesser thickness of the blind
guide by the displacement prior to the securing of part 30.3 over 30.2. In the same
way, in Figure 11 one can appreciate a broken-shaped protector with three parts, so
that when these are laid out in a way similar to the one shown as 30, with the particularity
that 31.3 allows an extension which allows overlapping until guide 24 of the blind
is covered.
[0034] The arrangement can also be structured in composite profiles, as is stated in 33,
so that as is stated in Figure 12, the overlapping of profiles 33.1, 33.2, 33.3 and
33.4 determines the possibility of adapting to unequal lengths and dimensions in each
part of the frame.
[0035] The embodiment shown in figure 13 reaches a configuration which leads to the adaptation
of the protection set to the width of the frame, so that the part 35 has assemblies
36 complementary to the corresponding ones of parts 34, meaning that the different
length of parts 35 determines the different widths, adaptation of these being by means
of an automatic insertion device.
[0036] The arrangement of covering pieces in the frames means that these also require being
squared, that is, fitted with means to stop them from sagging or going out of square,
so that the covering profiles are fitted with means for this purpose and thus, as
can be appreciated in figure 14, the profiles can have a base 38 for fixing a crosspiece
or an angle bracket 39.
[0037] A simple and reusable means consists in the arrangement of parts 40.1, 40.2, 40.3
and 40.4, which have slots corresponding to pins of adjacent parts, their corresponding
insertion in the proper slot allowing fast reuse of the profiles, and this is particularly
true for jobs in which the protectors are to stay on for shorter times, since they
will be easier to remove.
[0038] One embodiment for arrangement of the protector in longitudinal parts is represented
in Figure 16, and in this it is appreciated that the profiles are fitted with flanges
47 which can hold a rivet or securing attachment of any kind, on part 44 and this
can be held by the other part with the corresponding profile 45, also fitted with
these flanges.
[0039] One embodiment that allows the reuse of profiles to adapt these to the different
lengths of frames is the one represented in Figure 17, in which you can appreciate
that the different protectors 48 are set with some items lying over others, and able
to join by means of flanges 49.
[0040] One possibility for optimising protection for any of the profiles is represented
in Figure 18, which represents the end 51 of the profiles, so that this can house
a seal 53 in a slot 52, which constitutes a closing means preventing dust or dirt
getting into the frame that is to be protected. This arrangement can also constitute
a means for closing which prevents damp on the frame, with possibly only the claws
for securing this projecting, thus preventing problems with swelling wood, rusting
in other cases, etc..
[0041] One of the great advantages lies in the fact that neither the panels of the windows,
nor clearly the corresponding window panes, if these are fixed, can be fitted. This
facilitates ideal fitting at the end of the work with no risks for the safety of the
material.
[0042] This is for industrial application in protecting profiles of windows, doors and their
frames.

three of the four sides of the corresponding frame, the fourth being the one corresponding

the frames, fitted with means of protection and/or separation between the frame and
the protection profile, determining a limitation of access to the protected parts
of the profile, covering the frames on their upper crosspieces and lower ones if present
and sides.
2. Set of devices, according to claim 1, characterised in that this is formed of a protection structure consisting of a mixed profile, which includes:
a protection of the frame configured as a protection formed of several elements in
combination which form a covering of the frame, frame and gains and frame and guides
of the blinds if there are any; an alignment of the protector to the wall to which
the frame is connected, which it overlaps; an arrangement which forms means of linking
and fixing the different elements together; possibility of reusing and rearranging
the protection profiles after being removed.

profile (2,3,4) consists of single items coinciding with the corresponding size of
frame.

each profile, which has an also longitudinal mat (19) inside.

a non-aggressive material.
