Technical sector of the invention
[0001] The object of the present invention is an opening device for mesh bags, particularly
applicable to mesh bags which are normally used for the packaging of horticultural
products, such as citric fruits, tubers, etc.
Background to the invention
[0002] A wide variety of embodiments of mesh bags for the packaging of horticultural products,
like those previously mentioned, are known. In general, such known embodiments of
mesh bags are obtained from mesh of a weldable material in bag shaping continuous
processes. Essentially, said bags, once filled with the product to be packaged, comprise
an upper end closed by sealing, preferably with holding means to make it easier to
transport the bag by the user, and a lower end or closed bottom end.
[0003] The upper closed end of the mesh bag is provided with a weldable material film on
its respective outside faces; furthermore, the bag holding means can comprise a generally
inverted U-shaped carrier handle, situated between the inner faces of the bag walls,
or just a pair of through orifices.
[0004] To open this type of bag in order to extract the product packaged for consumption,
the user, until now, generally performs any type of opening of the bag, such as, for
example, a side opening, having to use any kind of cutting utensil, such as scissors,
or a knife, with the resulting risk of injury, as well as making an opening in the
bag, which, very frequently, is inadequate for keeping within it the rest of the product
packaged therein.
Explanation of the invention
[0005] The opening device for mesh bags object of the invention, is applicable to bags used
for packaging horticultural products obtained from weldable netting, the bags being
provided with a closed upper end by means of two welded outer films, preferably with
holding means for its transport and made up of the mutually facing front and rear
walls of the bag and of the two welded outer films, superimposed onto the corresponding
outer faces of the front and rear walls respectively.
[0006] The opening device of the invention is characterised in that the closed upper bag
end is provided with a small cut made in said walls and films, originating in any
free edge of said end.
[0007] According to another feature of the invention, the small cut is made in the central
part of the upper free edge of the bag and perpendicularly to same.
[0008] The previously described features of the device of the invention, provide an innovative
solution to the earlier described drawbacks involved in the opening of mesh bags.
Indeed, the arrangement of a cutting line in any edge of the bag's upper closed end
permits, by means of an easy tearing action, the controlled breaking of the bag's
upper end, thus managing to produce an opening of the bag on such a scale that it
makes it possible to extract the product contained in same, through the opening made,
and the bag, at the same time, keeps its receptacle nature for the rest of the product
still contained therein.
Brief description of the drawings
[0009] Illustrated in the attached drawings, by way of nonlimiting example, are two forms
of embodiment of the opening device for mesh bags according to the invention. In said
drawings:
Fig. 1, is a front elevation view of a first form of embodiment of the device of the
invention;
Fig. 2, is a transverse cross-sectional view according to II-II in Fig. 1; and
Figs. 3 and 4 are analogous views to Figs. 1 and 2 of a second form of embodiment
of the device of the invention.
Detailed description of the drawings
[0010] In the first form of embodiment illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 we can observe a partly
represented mesh bag 1, which has one upper end 2 provided with holding means 3 to
ease its carrying by the user. Said holding means 3 consists of two through orifices
11, arranged centrally and symmetrically regarding a theoretical main longitudinal
axis of the bag 1.
[0011] In Fig. 2 it can be observed that the upper end 2 of the bag 1 comprises a front
mesh wall 4 and a rear mesh wall 5, connected at their corresponding ends by a fold
6 which in the attached representation is as if it were pleating. In addition, the
upper end 2 comprises a first weldable material film 7 superimposed onto the outer
face of the front wall 4, and a second weldable material film 8, superimposed onto
the outer face of the rear wall 5, the walls 4 and 5 and the films 7 and 8 being joined
by means of welding.
[0012] In Figs. 1 and 2 a first embodiment of the object of the invention can be observed
in which the upper end 2 of the bag 1 is provided with a cutting line 10 which, starting
from a side edge 9 of the bag 1 and below the corresponding through orifice 11 of
the holding means 3, extends obliquely downwards.
[0013] In a second form of embodiment of the device of the invention illustrated in Figs.
3 and 4, and for the purposes of simplification, the same numerical references to
those in the first form of embodiment have been used to represent the elements; furthermore,
the holding means 3 of the bag 1 represented in said Figs. 3 and 4 consist of a handle
12 of weldable material arranged centrally to the longitudinal axis of the bag, wherein
it can be observed that the arms 13 of the handle 12 are arranged between the inner
face of the front wall 4 and the inner face of the rear wall 5 of the bag, all joined
by means of welding. This second form of embodiment of the device of the invention
differs from the first form illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 in that the cutting line
10 starts from the upper edge 14 of the bag, is arranged centrally as regards the
arms 13 of the handle 12 and extends perpendicularly with respect to said edge.
[0014] It is also pointed out herein that the configuration of bag 1, illustrated in Figs.
1 to 4, is solely given by way of an example of an application of the device of the
invention, wherein it is possible for the bag 1 to present different configurations
from the ones shown; for example, in the bag 1 illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 to which
the first form of embodiment of the device of the invention is applied, the first
film 7 and the second weldable material film 8, superimposed onto the walls of the
bag 1, can be the result of the folding over the upper edge 14 of a single weldable
material film.
