This permits the installer who is connecting a new consumer to disconnect the unnecessary part of the wire forming the relevant pair when activating the service whilst leaving intact the investment in the network. It is preferred that the configuration module is detachable. Thus, it will be able to be removed and replaced in a different orientation. Alternatively, it could be a rotary or sliding member which operates a switch to make or break the appropriate connections. In a further alternative, the switch could be a solid state device activated remotely, such as from the exchange. The configuration module can also contain protective devices for the line, such as three or five pin protection, over current devices and over voltage devices, or other active electronic elements. It is further preferred that in the first orientation, the configuration module causes electrical connection between the exchange and consumer to be broken.<img id="" file="00000001.TIF" he="80" wi="76" img-content="drawing" img-format="tif" orientation="portrait" inline="no"/></p>
<search-report-data id="srep" lang="en" srep-office="EP" date-produced=""><doc-page id="srep0001" file="90000001.TIF" he="231" wi="152" type="tif"/><doc-page id="srep0002" file="90010001.TIF" he="231" wi="155" type="tif"/></search-report-data></ep-patent-document>
