Description

[0001] The invention relates to a multiple opening press and a method to press with the multiple opening press, in which method one jaw of the press is fixed with respect to the body of the press and the other movable jaw has a body and the jaw is moved together with its body along a guide fitted in the pressing direction and between the jaws pressing is produced by means of a power unit, and by means of which in the movable jaw a force towards the fixed jaw is produced. The invention relates to a glueing press by means of which ferries of laminated beams or of laminated timber or similar of different width are pressed.

[0002] Different presses are widely known, which have quite a small stroke length. In them the stroke is usually carried out with a 300 - 500 mm long hydraulic cylinder. If the width of the piece varies over the stroke length, a known solution is that into connection with the one jaw rectangular pieces are added or removed, whereby one wants to arrange for the piece to be pressed a position, where it is on the stroke length area of the other jaw.

[0003] Also known is a solution, where the counter jaw, normally in fixed position, can be released from the locking and moved towards the other pressing jaw or away from it. Thus a smaller stroke, than for instance the maximum width of the piece to pressed, is sufficient for the striking jaw.

[0004] The disadvantage of these presses is the unsuitability of their normal pressing width the quickly change of large and small pressing widths. Release and shift of the rear counterpart, in other words the rear jaw, is difficult just as adding and removal of loose pieces, when one wants to arrange the jaws to a proper starting distance.

[0005] In order to settle the above presented disadvantages and problems a new multiple opening method has been developed and the pressing method is characterized in that in the method, in the initial stage, by means of a power unit, the movable pressing surface together with its pressing body is moved to the first pressing stage with respect to the piece to be pressed, whereby in the first stage the body is locked in its guide or a separate pressing rod in pressing direction, and in the second stage the pressing jaw is tightened further to a preferred pressing tightness with respect to the piece by means of a lever system fitted e.g. in the body and using the said power unit.

[0006] The multiple opening press as per the invention is characterized in that in the initial stage, by means of the power unit, the movable pressing surface can be moved together with its body to the first pressing stage with respect to the piece to be pressed, whereby by means of locking means in the body the body can be locked to its guide or to a separate rod in the pressing direction and in the second stage the pressing jaw is tightened further to preferred pressing tightness with respect to the piece by means of a lever system in the body and using the said power unit.

[0007] The advantage of the method as per the invention is that it is without any moves of counter jaws or additional pieces capable to function with its full lateral capacity. Maximum pressing force is produced in the jaw on the whole lateral area. The press can by means of the control system be made to work independently, when the pressing force and pressing time is preset in the system. There is in the press no stroke length restriction. By means of the invention a strong pressing force is achieved with the same power unit, by means of which rapid motion for the movable jaw is produced.

[0008] In the following the invention is disclosed with reference to the enclosed drawing, where

Fig. 1 is a schematic view of the glueing press from above.

Fig. 2 is the glueing press in pressing position viewed from above.

Fig. 3 is the body of movable jaw viewed from one side.

[0009] Figure 1 shows the glueing press, whose body 2 is illustrated only partly. On body 2 there are two guides 7, as sliding guides, on which body 4 of movable jaws 10 is moved. Moving is carried out by motor 6 that rotates ball screw 5. To ball screw nut 11 a peg 19 is fixed, from which levers 14 and 15 run to fulcrum pins 12. Thus on pulling or pushing nut 11 the whole body 4 is moved. Jaws 10 are by means of fulcrum pins 13 fixed to levers 14 and 15. In this example body 4 includes special sliding bits 20 sliding in contact to guides 7. Guides 7 can be sliding guides, guides for platform trucks or, for instance, rails along which rolling organs roll of body 4 roll.

[0010] The press has fixed jaws 3. Advantageously there are in connection to them force sensors 21 for measuring the pressing force. From force sensor 21 data is transmitted to the control system, whereat by means of motor 6 pressing force can be controllably increased or reduced

[0011] When there is no pressing function levers 14,15 and nut 11 are in rear position, then also jaws 10 are as far as possible from jaws 3. As per figure 3 levers 14,15 can be kept in rear position for instance by means of press cylinder 16, the piston rod of which pushes the lever system from fulcrum pin 19 to rear position.

[0012] Figure 2 shows a pressing function, where a glue beam billet 1 is placed between jaws 3,10. By means of motor 6 and screw 5 body 4 is in the initial stage driven to the left, while the lever system remains in the rear position pushed by cylinder 16. When jaws 10 have hit glue beam 1 and pushed it against counter jaws 3 so much that pressure sensor 22, mounted in connection with cylinder 16 has reacted, in other words the set pressure limit has been reached, the control system turns of motor 6. This way the first stage of pressing has been reached and in this stage body 4 is locked to cogging 8 in connection with guides 7. Used for locking is for instance locking means 9, shown as enlargement and pushed into cogging 8.

[0013] Also by means of the springs or the counterweights the levers 14,15 can be kept in rear position. When jaws 10 gets stressed on starting to press the glue beam, it is possible to give a steering to stop motor 6 for instance by means of strain gauge fitted in connection with the spring.

[0014] Then the second stage of pressing is carried out, where by means of motor 6 and ball screw 5 nut 11 is pulled and arms 14,15 at the same time, whereby jaws 10 are pressed into glue beam 1 by a stronger force than nut 11 is pulling. The pressing force grows with respect to the distances between articulated points 12,19 and 12,13 by repetitive force into glue beam 1. On basis of information given by force sensor 21 in connection with jaws 3 the running of motor 6 is controlled. This way motor 6 is stopped, when preferred force is measured by means of sensor 21.

[0015] On pressing classified glue beams the pressing force must be according to stipulations as well as the duration of pressing. Accordingly, the pressing force must be maintained with sufficient accuracy as long as the glue gets dry.

[0016] The moment of motor 6 can also be measured, and traced from it the pressing force of jaws 10 can be achieved. For instance, the control system can all the time at fixed-periods by means of sensor 21 measure the pressing force and if necessary increase or reduce it by means of motor 6.

[0017] A possibility is to use motor 6 at fixed-periods and stop its rotation, when it reaches a certain moment. Between the moment and the pressing force correlation is calculated or measured.

[0018] When the jaws, or as shown in the figures, movable jaws 10 are furnished with flexible organs, as springs, the stress transmitted over these surfaces is smoothed out in the piece and also the compressive stress remains constant for a long time.

[0019] Motor 6 turning ball screw 5 has an advantageously greater rotational speed, which is used for rapid move of body 4, and another slower rotational speed of the greater moment, which speed is used for pulling nut 11, while body 4 is locked to guides 7.

[0020] Figure 3 is a side view of body 4 and jaws 10. Pressure air cylinder 16 keeping arms 14,15 in rear position is placed on body 4.

[0021] Body 4 can be moved on the whole cross area. Each glue ferry 1 arriving at pressing can to its width be different, which does not cause any problem for the use of the press.
