Abstract

 A golf club head cover (2) , which cover (2) includes a glove (20) for receiving a hand of a player whilst the player is carrying golf clubs (14) in a golf bag (16) around the golf course.

Description

[0001] This invention relates to a golf club head cover.

[0002] Players playing golf are usually required to carry their golf clubs in a golf bag around a golf course. During play and especially when driving a golf ball from a golf tee, the players may wear a glove on their upper hand, which is the left hand in the case of a right handed player, and the right hand in the case of a left handed player. The lower hand is the hand that gives sensitivity of feel to the player and, for this reason, it is usually un gloved. When playing in winter, the un gloved hand of the players tends to get cold which can adversely affect the standard of play. The un gloved hand needs to be kept warm and so many players put on a glove between shots. This can cause irritation in constantly having to take the glove off and put it on again. Many other players simply pull down the sleeve of a part of their clothing, for example a jacket or a jumper, in order to cover their hand between strokes.

[0003] It is an aim of the present invention to obviate or reduce the above mentioned problem.

[0004] Accordingly, in one non-limiting embodiment of the present invention, there is provided a golf club head cover, which cover includes a glove for receiving a hand of a player whilst the player is carrying golf clubs in a golf bag around the golf course.

[0005] The cover of the present invention is able to solve the above mentioned problem in a particularly simple and elegant manner. More specifically, golf club head covers are known and they are used for keeping golf club heads clean and free from damage. The golf club head covers are usually used for a driver golf club. The driver golf club is usually a 1 wood, but it may be a 3 wood or a 5 wood. Irrespective of which golf club has a head cover, players carrying a golf bag with golf clubs will invariably rest their hand as they are walking on the top of the golf club head cover that is covering their driver. In accordance with the present invention, by providing a glove on what is otherwise a known cover, the glove is available for use as and when required, and it is exactly at the position where the player's ungloved hand would normally rest whilst carrying their golf bag around a golf course. Thus the player does not have to change their style of carrying their golf bag. The availability of the glove with the cover of the present invention is an extra facility which is always available for use as and when required.

[0006] The cover of the invention may be one in which the glove does not have separate compartments for the fingers and thumbs of the hand of the player. In this case, the glove is equally suitable for receiving the right hand of a right handed player or the left hand of a left handed player. Alternatively, if desired, the glove may have one compartment for all the fingers of the hand of the player and one compartment for the thumb of the hand of the player. Alternatively, if desired, the glove may have a separate compartment for each one of the fingers and the thumb of the hand of the player.

[0007] Usually, the glove will be positioned at a top part of the cover. The glove may be positioned elsewhere if desired.

[0008] Preferably, the glove is formed as an integral part of the cover.

[0009] The glove may be formed inside the cover whereby the shape of the glove is not visible from outside the cover. Alternatively, the glove may be formed outside the cover whereby the shape of the glove is visible from the outside of the cover.

[0010] Preferably, the glove is made from the same material or materials as the remainder of the cover. A different material or different materials may be employed if desired.

[0011] The golf club head cover may include a holder for holding warming means for warming the glove. The holder may be a container which is openable and closeable for the purpose of receiving the warming means. The warming means may be any known type of warming means currently employed for warming clothing outdoors. Thus, for example, the warming means might be of a type that requires heating prior to insertion into the holder. Alternatively, the warming means might be of a type that requires two separate chemical substances to be allowed to mix together in order to create an exothermic reaction.

Figure 1 shows a first golf club head cover in use;

Figure 2 is a side sectional view of a second golf club head cover;

Figure 3 is a top view of the second golf club head cover shown in Figure 2; and

Figure 4 is a top view of a third golf club head cover.

[0013] Referring to Figure 1, there is shown a golf club head cover 2 comprising a head portion 4 and a neck portion 6. The head portion 4 is for receiving the head of a driver 8. The neck portion 6 is for receiving a part of a shaft 10 of the driver 8 adjacent the head of the driver 8. As shown in Figure 1, a player 12 is carrying a set of golf clubs 14 in a golf bag 16. The way in which the golf bag 16 is being carried is a traditional way for players such as the player 12 to carry their golf bag 16 around a golf course.

[0014] The player 2 shown in Figure 1 is a right handed player and it will be noticed that the right hand 18 of the player is ungloved. Normally, with a known cover (not shown) the player 12 would rest his right hand 18 on top of the known cover. When playing in winter, the player 12 would have the problem of keeping his right hand 18 warm and dry. The player 12 might wear a glove but then the player 12 has the nuisance of having to keep removing the glove to play a shot and then putting the glove back on after playing the shot. Many players in winter would simply pull down the sleeve of their jacket or jumper in order to try and cover their hand between shots and keep their hand warm, dry and of the required sensitivity. The cover 2 shown in Figure 1 very elegantly overcomes this long standing problem of golfers. More specifically, as will be seen from Figure 1, the cover 2 has a glove 20 for receiving a hand of the player 12 whilst the player 12 is carrying the golf clubs 14 in the golf bag 16 around a golf course. The glove 20 is positioned on a top part of the cover and exactly at the position that the player 12 would normally rest their hand. Thus the player 12 does not have to alter their carrying style. Very advantageously, the glove 20 is available for use as and when required. All the player 12 has to do when the glove 20 is required is simply to slip the ungloved right hand 18 into the glove, and to remove their hand 18 as the golf bag 16 is put down.

[0015] The glove 20 does not have separate compartments for the fingers and thumb of the right hand 18 of the player 12. Thus, if the person 12 were to be a left handed player, then the glove 20 would be equally suitable.

[0016] Figures 2 and 3 show a cover 22 in which similar parts as in the cover 2 have been given the same reference numerals for ease of comparison and understanding. The .cover 22 has one compartment 24 for all the fingers of the hand 18 of the player 12, and one compartment 26 for the thumb of the hand 18 of the player 12.

[0017] Figure 4 shows a cover 28 in which similar parts to the cover 2 have again been given the same reference numerals for ease of comparison and understanding. The cover 28 has a glove 30 which has a separate compartment 32 for each one of the fingers and the thumb of the hand 18 of the player 12.

[0018] Figure 1 shows how the glove 20 is positioned at a top part of the cover 2 and such that the glove 20 is formed inside the cover, whereby the shape of the glove 20 is not visible from outside the cover 2. A similar construction is employed for the cover 28 shown in Figure 4. In contrast, in Figures 2 and 3 it will be seen that the cover 22 is such that the glove 23 is formed outside the cover 22 whereby the shape of the glove 23 is visible from the outside of the cover 22.

[0019] It is to be appreciated that the embodiments of the invention described above with reference to the accompanying drawings have been given by way of example only and that modifications may be effected. Thus, for example, the cover of the present invention can be made in a variety of different styles, shapes and constructions in accordance with known covers, but with the cover of the present invention including a glove. Left and right hand versions of the glove for left and right handed use can be provided as desired. The glove may be used equally beneficially by both male and female golfers.

[0020] The cover of the present invention may be made from those materials employed in known covers. The glove will preferably made from the same material as the remainder of the cover but different materials may be employed if desired.

Claims

1. A golf club head cover, which cover includes a glove for receiving a hand of a player whilst the player is carrying golf clubs in a golf bag around the golf course.

2. A golf club head cover according to claim 1 in which the glove does not have separate compartments for the fingers and thumb of the hand of the player.

3. A golf club head cover according to claim 1 in which the glove has one compartment for all the fingers of the hand of the player and one compartment for the thumb of the hand of the player.

4. A golf club head cover according to claim 1 in which the glove has a separate compartment for each one of the fingers and the thumb of the hand of the player.

5. A golf club head cover according to any one of the preceding claims in which the glove is positioned at a top part of the cover.

6. A golf club head cover according to any one of the preceding claims in which the glove is formed as an integral part of the cover.

7. A golf club head cover according to claim 6 in which the glove is formed inside the cover whereby the shape of the glove is not visible from outside the cover.

8. A golf club head cover according to claim 6 in which the glove is formed outside the cover whereby the shape of the glove is visible from the outside of the cover.

9. A golf club head cover according to any one of the preceding claims in which the glove is made from the same material or materials as the remainder of the cover.

10. A golf club head cover according to any one of the preceding claims and including a holder for holding warming means for warming the glove.

11. A golf club head cover according to claim 10 in which the holder is a container which is openable and closeable for the purpose of receiving the warming means.
