(54) Power wheel for self propelled appliance


(57) An upright cleaning device (10) comprising, an actuator (24) for receiving a user input, an upper assembly (14), a base assembly (12), a rear wheel (23) mounted to the base assembly (12), configured to support the rear portion of the base assembly (12), and a drive mechanism (16) located in the base assembly (12). The actuator (24) is mounted to upper assembly (14), and the upper assembly (14) is pivotally mounted to the base assembly (12). The drive mechanism (16) has its major diameter in contact with a surface to be cleaned, and the drive mechanism (16) is configured to operate at one of: full speed in one direction, no speed and full speed in the opposite direction, according to the relative position of the actuator (24).
