(54)	Constrained acetabular liner

(57) A prosthetic acetabular component (10) for a hip joint that is inserted into a bone cavity of the natural acetabulum. The acetabular component (10) consists of an articulating component (12) and a constraining component (14) The articulating component (12) has a hemispherical or dome shape (18) that defines a hemispherical cavity (24) for receiving a femoral ball of a femoral hip stem. The constraining component (14) has a body (60) that connects to the articulating component (12) to capture the femoral ball within the cavity (24) of the articulating component (12). A locking mechanism (86) connects the constraining component (14) to the articulating component (12).
