(54) Power operated rotary knife


(57) A rotary knife (10) comprising an annular blade (12) having a central axis (14) and an edge at one axial end (12a), a blade support assembly (16), a handle assembly (20) connected to said blade support assembly (16), a drive transmission (22) for rotating said blade (12) about said axis (14), and a steeling mechanism (60). The steeling mechanism comprises a steel assembly (64), a steel support (62) that supports the steel assembly (64) for movement toward and away from engagement with the blade (12) along a first line of action (70), and a manually shiftable steel actuator member (66) supported for movement relative to the handle assembly (20) along a second line of action (72) that is neither parallel to, nor coextends with, the first line of action (70).
