FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[0001] The invention relates to a covering assembly for covering a window frame and sash
frame, in particular to a window covering structure.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0002] Generally, the window mainly comprises a frame, a sash, coverings and other members.
The top, bottom and the side parts of the frame and the sash need to be covered by
the corresponding top, bottom and side coverings, so as to protect the wooden material
of the frame and the sash, and prevent the rain from eroding the wooden frame and
sash.
[0003] The covering assembly is usually made of a light metal profile, and comprises top,
side and bottom coverings.
[0004] In order to drain the rain on the surface of the coverings, drainage grooves are
formed with the top, side and bottom coverings of the window. Due to the diversity
of the covering cross section, the connection between the coverings is a problem to
be solved, especially the connection between the top covering and the side coverings.
The covering structure needs to be simple and easily manufactured, and the connection
portion of the covering drainage grooves must smoothly drain rain and prevent it from
penetrating the window through the connecting portion.
[0005] What's more, as the end of the side covering is exposed in the atmosphere, the rain
and dust can easily enter into the side covering through the open end.
[0006] Since the sash side coverings also have the function of pressing the pane, the strength
of the side covering is not deemed sufficient.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
[0010] The invention will be described in detail with reference to the drawings and the
embodiments as follows.
[0011] A window or a sloped-roof window consists mainly of a window frame, a sash frame;
a glazing pane fitted into the sash frame; top, side and bottom coverings for covering
the sash frame; and top, side and bottom coverings for covering the window frame.
The panes are mounted at the sash; with the interior end of the sash covering pressed
on the glass and the exterior end thereof formed with a cavity. Drainage grooves are
formed with the coverings.
[0012] The window covering assembly comprises a top covering and side coverings, and the
top and side coverings comprise drainage grooves. The drainage groove of the top covering
and the drainage groove of side covering are connected in a waterproof manner. Thus,
the drainage grooves of the top and side coverings are an integrated structure. The
water in the top covering drainage flows into the side covering drainage, and is then
discharged conveniently. There is no need to drain the top covering in other ways.
[0013] As shown in Fig. 1, the end of the drainage groove 2 of the top covering 1 and the
end of the drainage groove 4 of the side covering 3 are sealed off and jointed. Glue
5 is applied in the interface between the ends.
[0014] The jointed surfaces of the top covering drainage groove 2 and the side covering
drainage groove 4 are at 30°, 45°or 60°, wherein 45°is preferred.
[0015] In another embodiment as shown in Figs. 2-6, the joint portions 12, 22 of the drainage
groove 11 of the top covering 10 and the drainage groove 21 of the side covering 20
overlap each other. Particularly, the connecting portion 12 of the top covering drainage
groove covers the connecting portion 22 of the top covering drainage groove. For a
sloped-roof window, this connecting structure is simple and easily installed, while
no sealing glue is needed. The water in the top covering drainage groove 11 naturally
flows down to the side covering drainage groove 21, and is finally discharged from
the side covering 21. Also, this connection can provide a good decoration of the window.
[0016] There could be various connection portion between the top covering 10 and the side
covering 20. For example, there may be a complete vertical overlap provided between
the drainage grooves 11, 21. Specifically, the bottom, exterior surface and interior
surface 13 of the drainage groove 11 of the top covering 10 overlap the corresponding
bottom, exterior and interior surface 23 of the drainage groove 21 of the side covering
20. Or, the bottom and interior surfaces 13, 23 of the drainage grooves 11, 21 of
the top and side coverings are overlapping. Specifically, the bottom surface, interior
surface 13 of the drainage groove 11 of the top covering 10 cover the bottom surface,
interior surface 23 of the drainage groove 21 of side covering 20, while the exterior
surface 24 of the drainage groove 21 of the side covering 20 acts as the exterior
surface of the drainage groove 11 of the top covering 10. In the latter case, the
exterior surface of the drainage groove 11 of the top covering 10 is eliminated, and
a gap is formed at the end of the top covering 10, as shown in Fig. 3. The exterior
surface 24 of the side covering drainage groove 21 is also the exterior surface of
the top covering drainage groove 11.
[0017] In order to overlap firmly, the end of the drainage groove 21 of the side covering
20 may be provided with an arm 25 bending upward. The lateral exterior surface 15
of the drainage groove 11 of the top covering 10 abuts against the arm 25.
[0018] In order to overlap the top covering 10 and the side covering 20 firmly, the exterior
edge 16 of the top covering 10 may abut the exterior surface 26 of the side covering
20.
[0019] The present covering assembly is particularly suitable for a sash frame. When the
top covering 10 and the side covering 20 are used in the sash frame, the surface 17
of the top covering 10 pressed on the pane covers the surface 27 of the side covering
20 pressed on the pane.
[0020] For a firm overlapping, the surface 17 of the top covering 10 defines a concave groove
18, into which the surface 27 of the side covering 20 can be fit.
[0021] The length of the drainage groove 21 of the side covering 20 is shorter than the
overall length of the side covering 20, so that the side covering 20 has a lower portion
formed with a cutout 28, and the water in the drainage groove 21 can therefore be
drained along the surface of the sash frame bottom covering conveniently, thereby
saving material for making the sash frame and reducing the cost.
[0022] Since it is necessary to construct drainage grooves in the sash frame side covering
20, and the exterior end of the side covering 20 needs to cover the top section of
the window frame side covering, a U-shaped cavity is formed at the inner surface of
the outer end of the side covering 20. At each of the back end (top end) and the front
end (bottom end) of the side covering 20, there is a gap formed, so that the cross
section of the side covering profile is exposed.
[0023] In order to solve this disadvantage, an end cap is sealed at the gap of the front
end (bottom end or bottom section) or back end (top end or top section) of the side
covering 20, so as to seal the gap, and thus prevent the rain and dust from entering
the interior cavity of the side covering 20 through the gap, and from further entering
the space between the window frame and the sash frame, whereby improving the overall
sealing performance and appearance of the window, increasing the strength of the side
covering 20.
[0024] There are various ways to construct the end cap 29 at the front gap, depending on
a window to be used. For example, a single end cap can correspondingly seal the front
gap of the side covering 20, or the end cap 29 may be connected with the side covering
20 according to another preferred embodiment. The end cap 29 may be made of a light
metal, plastics, rubber or other materials.
[0025] When the end cap 29 and the side covering 20 are integral, the seal structure between
the end cap 29 and the side covering 20 has a bended fold 30. This is a simple and
feasible seal structure extended from the side covering 20 and formed with the folding
edges 30.
[0026] In this embodiment, there are two folding edges. They form a nice sealing connection,
save material, and are easy to manufacture.
[0027] For the sake of convenience, the folding edges 30 are placed inside the end cap 29.
Of course, the folding edges 30 may be placed outside the end cap 29.
