(54) Hinge for shutters

(57) The present invention relates to a hinge for shutters. The hinge according to the invention is attached to the shutter by means of a cylindrical protrusion (2) of a hinge plate (1) and a clamping bolt (4). Furthermore, the hinge comprises a pair of sleeves (18, 19) arranged in a hinge hub (9) and cooperating with a pivot (T) of a shutter bracket (N). The lower sleeve (19) is formed with a groove (26) which cooperates with a notch hook (27) of an automatic snap mechanism (28).

Description

[0001] The present invention refers to a hinge for shutters comprising a hinge hub mounted on a pivot of a shutter bracket, said hinge hub being separably connected to a hinge block, which in turn is separably connected to a hinge plate arranged between the shutter and the hinge block, said hinge plate being separably connected to said shutter, a shutter strap that can be arranged between the shutter and the hinge serving as a reinforcement of the shutter frame, and a snap mechanism for locking the shutter in an open position.

[0002] Hinges for shutters of the aforementioned type are known e.g. from EP 0 118 010 A1, EP 0 118 011 A1, EP 0 140 114 A2 and EP 0 487 489 B1. The drawbacks of said solutions, as well as many others lie in a relatively low protection against pilferage and burglary, since the screws holding the hinge against the shutter can be relatively easily removed from the outside of the shutter. When assembling the hinge, heads of the screws can damage the hinge when being screwed into place and the anti corrosion protection is questionable with the known solutions, being particularly marked in an environment with heavily corrosive air such as in a coastal area. A further drawback is in the mounting of a snap mechanism for locking the shutter in the open position, because with the known solutions certain parts have to be replaced, in some cases even the entire hinge, in order to achieve the proper result.

[0003] It is the object of the present invention to create a hinge for shutters which will remedy the drawbacks of the known solutions.

[0004] According to the invention, the aforementioned goal is achieved by a hinge plate with a cylindrical protrusion forming an integral part therewith, said protrusion being arranged perpendicularly to the hinge plate and on the side thereof facing a shutter and provided with a threaded blind hole cooperating with a clamping bolt for attaching the hinge plate to the shutter. A hinge block is attached to the hinge plate whereby a hinge hub is linked to a flange of said hinge block via correspondingly shaped projections arranged perpendicularly thereto. Said hinge hub is formed with a coaxially extending and nearly elliptic through-hole which is formed in the central area of the longitudinal direction thereof with a transversally extending web. Furthermore, each end of the hinge hub is formed in the area of the connection to the projections with a pair of mutually spaced positioning pins.

[0005] A pair of sleeves are tightly inserted into the elliptic through-hole from each end of the hinge hub, said sleeves having a cross-section that is equal to the one of said elliptic through-hole and comprising a blind hole and through-hole, respectively, adapted for cooperation with a shutter bracket pivot. The elliptic sleeves inserted into the elliptic through-hole of the hinge hub extend into the area of said web which in turn sits into each cross-groove formed on the sides of both sleeves that face each other and over the entire width of the sleeves, while both sleeves still being mutually spaced apart by a small amount. This measure prevents the shutter in the closed position coming unhinged.

[0006] The first, upper sleeve is closed from the first end thereof with a blind flange comprising on the lower end thereof a pair of mutually spaced depressions adapted to accommodate said positioning pins of the hinge hub. The second, lower sleeve is formed with a flange on the bottom end thereof comprising a pair of mutually spaced depressions adapted to accommodate said positioning pins of the hinge hub. Moreover, the flange of the lower sleeve is formed with a groove over the entire thickness of said flange, said groove being provided to accommodate a notch hook of an automatic snap mechanism when the shutter is fully opened. Said notch hook cooperates with the outer surface of the flange until the shutter reaches the fully opened position. Said web of the hinge hub cooperates with a circumferentially extending channel provided on the pivot. The pair of positioning pins meshing with the depressions in the lower sleeve additionally arrest the flange of the lower sleeve preventing therewith the distortion of said groove by the notch hook of the snap mechanism.

[0007] The present invention will become more fully understood from the detailed description given hereinafter and the accompanying drawings, wherein

Fig. 1 shows an exploded axonometric view of a hinge according to the invention,

Fig. 2 shows a hinge according to the invention viewed from below, and

Fig. 3 shows a partially assembled hinge according to the invention, with a snap mechanism.

[0008] Hinge for shutters according to the invention consists of a hinge plate 1, a cylindrical protrusion 2 is attached perpendicularly thereto and on the side thereof facing the shutter, said protrusion comprises a blind threaded hole 3. Said cylindrical protrusion 2 is inserted into a through-hole in the shutter frame (not shown in Fig.), and from the opposite side i.e. from the inside of the shutter, a clamping bolt 4 is screwed in the blind threaded hole 3 fixing therewith the hinge plate 1 from inside to the shutter. The hinge plate 1 further comprises at one end thereof and parallel to the cylindrical protrusion 2 a flange 5 by means of which the hinge plate 1 is additionally fixed sideways to the shutter frame. Furthermore, a hinge block 6 is attached to the hinge plate 1 comprising on the same side as hinge plate 1 a flange 7 extending in the opposite direction of said flange 5. The hinge block 6 form-locking the hinge plate 1 is with respect to the hinge plate 1 and in the longitudinal direction thereof i.e. perpendicular to the flange 5 in a manner known per se movable by means of an adjusting screw 8. Further on, a hinge hub 9 is connected to the hinge block 6 its cross-section shaped nearly elliptic. Said hub 9 is connected to said block 6 via the flange 7 by means of a pair of appropriately formed projections 10, 11 arranged perpendicularly to the hinge hub 9. The latter is fixed by means of a fastening screw 12 meshing with the flange 7 of the hinge block 6, and a washer 13.

[0009] Moreover, a nearly elliptic through-hole 14 is coaxially formed in the hinge hub 9 said through-hole 14 being formed in the central area of the longitudinal extension thereof with a web 15 extending transversally to said hole. Each end section of the hinge hub 9 is formed in the area of the connection with the projections 10, 11 with a pair of mutually spaced positioning pins 16, 17. A sleeve 18, 19 is inserted into the elliptic through-hole 14 from each end side of the hinge hub 9, said sleeves comprising the same cross-section as said through-hole 14 preventing therewith rotation of each sleeve 18, 19 with respect to the hub 9. Said sleeves 18, 19 are formed with a blind cylindrical hole and a through-hole, respectively, said holes being adapted for cooperation with a pivot T of a shutter bracket N. Said sleeves 18, 19 are formed at the ends facing each other with a groove 18', 19' extending transversally over the entire width of each sleeve. The first, i.e. the upper sleeve 18 is closed from the upper part thereof by a blind flange 20 aligned with the outer perimeter of the hinge hub 9 when the sleeve 18 inserted into the hub 9. Said flange 20 of the sleeve 18 comprises from the bottom side thereof a pair of mutually spaced depressions 21, 22 adapted to accommodate said positioning pins 16, 17, thus, providing in every instance the accurate positioning of the sleeve 18 in the hub 9. The second, i.e. the lower sleeve 19 is formed with a flange 23 at the bottom end thereof, said flange being also aligned with the outer perimeter of the hinge hub 9 when the sleeve 19 is inserted into the hub 9. Said flange 23 of the sleeve 19 comprises from the upper part thereof a pair of mutually spaced depressions 24, 25 adapted to accommodate said positioning pins 16, 17, thus providing in every instance the accurate positioning of the sleeve 19 in the hub 9. The flange 23 of the sleeve 19 is formed over the entire thickness thereof with a groove 26 arranged in a manner that it rests on the side facing the shutter and essentially coplanar with the projections 10, 11, when the hinge is assembled and the shutter is in the closed position. When the shutter is in the fully open position, said groove 26 is provided for accommodation of a notch hook 27 of a automatic snap mechanism 28, known per se and therefore not shown and described in detail. The hook 27 slides over the outside surface of the flange 23 of the sleeve 19 when opening and closing the shutter, respectively.

[0010] The pivot T located perpendicularly to the bracket N comprises a lower cylindrical section T1 and an upper cylindrical section T2 vertically spaced apart by means of a channel T3. The upper cylindrical section T2 comprises on the side facing the shutter a chamfer T4 extending over the entire length of the section T2, the depth of said chamfer corresponds to the depth of the channel T3. When assembling, the hinge sleeves 18, 19 are inserted into the hinge hub 9 from both sides thereof so as to rest on the positioning pins 16, 17 of the hinge hub 9 by means of each depression 21, 22; 24, 25. The sleeves 18, 19 inserted into the elliptic through-hole 14 of the hinge hub 9 extend to the area of said web 15 so as the latter partially rests in each of the cross grooves 18', 19' provided in the ends of both sleeves 18, 19 facing each other and over the entire transversal width of the sleeves 18, 19. Furthermore, the assembly of the hub 9 and the sleeves 18, 19 is put on the pivot T in such a position that the web 15 slips over the chamfer T4 up to the terminal position thereof i.e. to the area of the channel T3. During rotation of the shutter and hinge, respectively, the web 15 moves in the channel T4, whereby the hinge and the shutter, respectively, are simultaneously prevented from being taken off the pivot T.
