(54) Seal assembly for a turbomachine

(57) A compliant seal (20) for use between rotating blades (16) and a static shroud (18) surrounding the rotating blades (16) in a steam or gas turbine (10) is disclosed. The seal (20) includes a tip surface (36), substantially resistant to wear due to rubbing by the tip of the rotating blades (16), and an elastic biasing member (38), comprising a biasing element. The wear-resistant surface (36) is thus biased against the tips of the rotating blades (16) to seal a gas path between the rotating blades (16) and the static shroud (18).
