(57) A backpack comprises a backplate (2) that includes a carcase (4a,4b), two shoulder
straps (10a,10b) that are fastened respectively to the backplate (2) at their upper
and lower end portions, and a curved waist belt (20) that has an elongate belt portion
(21) fastened to the backplate (2). A highly stable and rigid fastening of the waist
belt (20) is achieved by providing at least one elongate stiffening element (25a,25b)
that extends length-wise on the outside of the belt portion (21), wherein the carcase
(4a,4b) of the backplate (2) extends between the elongate stiffening element (25a,25b)
and the belt portion (21), therewith obtaining a backpack that has good ergonomics
and can carry heavy loads.
