[0001] This invention relates to a handle which is used in domestic appliances such as refrigerators
and ovens, which is easily manufactured and mounted on household appliances.
[0002] Domestic appliances, such as ovens and especially refrigerators, comprise a door
handle used for opening and closing their doors. The domestic appliance's door is
opened by gripping the handle and various procedures for instance, controlling whether
the food in the oven is cooked, taking out goods from the refrigerator etc. are conducted
by reaching into the body of the domestic appliance. The handles are composed of one
or more parts due the production limitations and aesthetic concerns. The handles,
especially made of metal materials, need to be composed of one or more parts to meet
the design created with these aesthetic concerns. There is a need to reduce the number
of the handle parts, which are manufactured in such a way, and a practical and robust
method of mounting these parts.
[0003] In the state of art,
DE9409850U German Utility Model, when a handle which includes a tube and two handle supports
is manufactured, a channel is opened at the two ends of the tube and while a handle
support is fitted inside the tube, an extension of the handle support is fitted into
the channel and at the last stage the handle support is fixed to the handle with an
additional part.
[0004] In the state of art,
TR1999-01252 Turkish Patent, when a handle which includes a tube and two handle supports is manufactured,
a channel is opened at the two ends of the tube and while a handle support is fitted
inside the tube, an extension of the handle support is fitted into the channel and
at the last stage the handle support is fixed to the handle by using only a screw
without the need of an additional part.
[0005] The objective of the invention is to provide a handle which is used in domestic appliances,
which is composed of less number of parts and which is simple to mount.
[0006] According to the invention, this object is achieved by a handle as defined in the
claim.
[0007] The domestic appliance realized in order to attain the objects of this invention
has been illustrated in the attached drawings, wherein;
[0008] Figure 1 - is a perspective view of a domestic appliance.
[0009] Figure 2 - is a front view of a handle.
[0010] Figure 3 - is a perspective view of a holder.
[0011] Figure 4 - is a perspective view of a fixing element.
[0012] Figure 5 - is a perspective view of a handle support.
[0013] The components in the figures have each been numbered corresponding the following:
- 1. Domestic appliance
- 2. Body
- 3. Door
- 4. Handle
- 5. Gripping portion
- 6. Handle support
- 7. Fixing element
- 8. Fastening means
- 9. Recess
- 10. Channel
- 11. Handle support body
- 12. Fixing element body
- 13. Head
[0014] The handle (4) is mounted on domestic appliances (1), such as refrigerators or ovens,
which comprise a body (2) and a door (3) that enables an access into the body (2)
and allows the door (3) to be opened thus enabling an access into the domestic appliance
(1).
[0015] The handle (4), the parts of which are all made preferably of metal, comprises a
gripping portion (5), one or more handle supports (6) that ensure the gripping portion
(5) to be mounted on the domestic appliance (1), one or more fixing elements (7) which
ensure the handle support (6) to be fixed to the gripping portion (5) and one or more
fastening means (8) which ensure the handle support (6) to be mounted on the domestic
appliance (1).
[0016] The gripping portion (5), preferably shaped like a tube, has a recess (9) at one
end.
[0017] The handle support (6) comprises a channel (10) which has a similar shape and structure
as the recess (9), where both ends are open and which has an inner diameter (r1) almost
the same as the inner diameter (r2) of the recess (9) and a handle support body (11)
which is fixed to the channel (10) and onto which fastening means (8) are inserted
which ensure the handle (4) to be mounted on the domestic appliances (1).
[0018] The fixing element (7) comprises a fixing element body (12), which ensures the gripping
portion (5) and the handle support (6) to be fixed together in such way that the gripping
portion (5) and the handle support (6) are placed end to end wherein the recess (9)
and the channel (10) axis are on the same direction and with tight fittingly mounted
first to the channel (10) then to the recess (9), and a head (13) which prevents the
fixing element body (12) to move along the recess (9) deeper than the desired length.
[0019] In order to mount the fixing element body (12) to the recess (9) and to the channel
with tight fittingly, the fixing element body (12) is manufactured in such a way that
it has a similar shape to the recess (9) and to the channel (10), that its diameter
(r3) is slightly larger, for example, by 0.25 mm, than the inner diameter of the recess
(9) and the inner diameter of the channel (10), and that its length (L1) is longer
than the channel (10) length (L2).
[0020] During the production of the handle (4), first, the gripping portion (5), two handle
supports (6) and two fixing elements (7) are manufactured respectively. Then, the
gripping portion (5), the handle supports (6) are mounted end to end on a fixture
wherein the recess (9) and the channel (10) axis are on the same direction and the
handle supports (6) are placed at the left and right side of the gripping portion
(5). The gripping portion (5) and the handle support (6) are fixed together by ramming
the first fixing element (7) first to the channel (10) then to the recess (9) tight
fittingly. In the same manner, the gripping portion (5) and the handle support (6)
are fixed together by ramming the second fixing element (7) first to the channel (10)
then to the recess (9) tight fittingly. Then, the handle (4) taken out of the fixture
is mounted on the domestic appliance (1) via fastening means (8).
[0021] In another embodiment of the invention, one handle support (6), one fixing element
(7) and a gripping portion (5) with a recess (9) on only one end is used. In this
embodiment, as the handle (4) is mounted to the domestic appliance (1) with only one
handle support (6), the rotation of the handle (4) around the handle support (6) is
prevented by using more than one fastening means (8).
[0022] As the gripping portion (5), the handle support (6) and the fixing elements (7) are
parts which have simple production methods and easy mold designs, they provide substantial
amount of cost advantage. For example, the gripping portion (5) is manufactured by
simply cutting it out from a standard tube at a desired length. In the handle (4),
which is the subject of the invention, it is ensured that the parts are mounted to
each other in a simple and in an easy way and that the parts are not separated easily
after the mounting.

comprising a gripping portion (5), one or more handle supports (6) that ensure the
gripping portion (5) to be mounted on the domestic appliance (1), one or more fixing
elements (7) which ensure the handle support (6) to be fixed to the gripping portion
(5) and one or more fastening means (8) which enables mounting of the handle on the
domestic appliance (1), wherein the gripping portion (5) has at least one recess (9)
at one end; the handle support (6) comprising a channel (10) which has a similar shape
and structure as the recess (9), where both ends are open, and which has an inner
diameter (r1) almost the same as the inner diameter (r2) of the recess (9) and a handle
support body (11) which is fixed to the channel (10) and onto which said fastening
means (8) are inserted ; and the fixing element (7) comprising a fixing element body
(12), which ensures the gripping portion (5) and the handle support (6) to be fixed
together in such way that the gripping portion (5) and the handle support (6) are
placed end to end wherein the recess (9) and the channel (10) axis are on the same
direction, said fixing element body (12) being tight-fittingly mounted first to the
channel (10) then to the recess (9), wherein, in order to be mounted to the recess
(9) and to the channel (10) tight-fittingly, the fixing element body (12) is manufactured
in such a way that it has a similar shape to the recess (9) and to the channel (10),
its outer diameter (r3) is slightly larger than the inner diameter (r2) of the recess
(9) and the inner diameter (r1) of the channel (10), and that its length (L1) is longer
than the channel (10) length (L2), and a head (13) which prevents the fixing element
body (12) to move along the recess (9) deeper than the desired length.
