Description

[0001] The present invention refers to a device for holding a shutter wing open where said holding device comprises a fixed hinge carrier mounted on a shutter frame, with a hinge pivot projecting from the fixed hinge carrier, a rotatable hinge carrier is turnable mounted on said pivot, said hinge carriers can be mutually fixed by means of a snap connection.

[0002] When the shutter wing is located in an open position it has to be fixed relative to the frame and/or the wall of the building where the shutter is built in. Therewith, the wind is prevented from moving the shutter and striking it against the wall of the building, causing permanent damage to both the wall and the shutter. In addition, the formation of an unpleasant rattling noise is to be prevented if the shutter would vibrate due to the clearance in the carriers thereof. Several solutions have been published which are known for holding the shutter wing open e.g. in the EP 0 622 510, EP 0 189 813, EP 0 189 814, EP 0 186 760 and EP 0 118 010 to mentioning only a few of them. All the said solutions have in common that the clearance between the hinged parts of the shutter has not been eliminated successfully resulting in the unwanted vibrations and unpleasant noise caused by the wind when the shutter is open.

[0003] It is the object of the present invention to create such a device for holding a shutter wing open that will remedy the drawbacks of the known solutions.

[0004] The object as set above is solved according to the invention by that symmetrically to a hinge pivot and parallel to the longitudinal axis thereof depressions are formed in a free bulky end of a fixed hinge carrier on the side facing a turnable hinge carrier, a wedge unit being arranged in each said depression. Here, a control rod associated with each wedge unit extends through the bottom of each depression, each wedge unit being moveable in said longitudinal direction by means of said control rod. Each wedge unit is continuously pressed against the turnable hinge carrier by means of an elastic means arranged between the wedge unit and the bottom of said depression. Through-holes of the identical cross-section as said depressions are formed in said turnable hinge carrier on the side facing the fixed hinge carrier, said through-holes coincide entirely with said depressions of the fixed hinge carrier when the shutter is in the open position. It is achieved therewith that each wedge unit can easily slip into the respective through-hole when the shutter is in the entirely open position.

[0005] Furthermore, each said wedge unit comprises a slider, the cross-section thereof corresponding to each said depression. The control rod is associated with the first side of each slider whereas at least one conical finger is associated with the second side of said slider and in the longitudinal direction thereof. Said finger is moveably linked with the slider by means of a pin.

[0006] When the shutter wing is in the closed position, the fingers abut against that face of the bulky end of the turnable hinge carrier which faces the fixed hinge carrier. However, when the shutter wing is set into the entirely open position, said fingers snap into the through-holes formed in the turnable hinge carrier and wedge there. When the shutter wing is to be put in the closed position the fingers are, by means of control rods, manually pulled out of the engagement with the through-holes reenabling the rotational movement of the shutter wing. With the embodiment where each through-hole is formed with a web, said web is, when arrested, in a wedged position between the two fingers of each wedge unit.

[0008] According to the invention, a device for holding shutter wing open consists of a fixed hinge carrier 1 being mounted, in a manner known per se and by means of a respective holder 2, 3, to a shutter frame not shown, at the free end of said carrier 1 there is arranged a hinge pivot 4, and of a turnable hinge carrier 5 mounted to the shutter frame not shown, said carrier 5 being stuck onto said hinge pivot 4 in order to rotate about the longitudinal axis thereof. The hinge pivot 4 is, in the embodiment shown, held in a free bulky end 6 of the hinge carrier 1 while cooperating with a free bulky end 7 of the hinge carrier 5. Symmetrically relative to the hinge pivot 4 and parallel to the longitudinal axis thereof two depressions 8, 9 are formed in the bulky end 6 of the fixed hinge carrier 1 on the side facing the turnable hinge carrier 5, a wedge unit 10, 11 is arranged in each said depression. Both, said depressions 8, 9 and said wedge units 10, 11 comprise a suitable cross-sectional formation, thus, preventing rotational movement of each wedge unit about its longitudinal axis in each depression. A control rod 12, 13 associated with each wedge unit 10, 11 extends through the bottom of the each depression 8, 9, each wedge unit 10, 11 can be translated in said longitudinal direction by means of said control rod. Each wedge unit 10, 11 is continuously pressed against the turnable hinge carrier 5 by means of an elastic means 14, 15 placed between said wedge unit 10, 11 and the bottom of the depression 8, 9.

[0009] Two through-holes 16, 17 are formed in said turnable hinge carrier at the side facing the fixed hinge carrier 1, said through-holes having the identical cross-section as the depressions 8, 9, and said through-holes 16, 17 entirely coincide with said depressions 8, 9 of the fixed hinge carrier 1 when the shutter is in the open position. Each through hole 16, 17 being provided with a longitudinally extending web 18, 19 arranged in a manner that they can cooperate with each wedge unit 10, 11.

[0010] Since the wedge units 10, 11 and the respective depressions 8, 9 as well as the through-holes 16, 17 are formed identically, only the wedge unit 10 is described hereinafter.

[0011] The wedge unit 10 of the device according to the invention comprises a slider 20 the cross-section thereof is adapted to the depression 8 enabling, in one hand, unobstructed longitudinal movement of the wedge unit, and on the other hand, preventing rotation of the wedge unit about its longitudinal axis. The control rod 12 projecting through the bottom of the depression 8 is connected to the first side of said slider 20, while a pair of conical fingers 21, 22 are connected in longitudinal direction to the other side of said slider 20, said fingers being moveably associated with slider 20 by means of pins 23, 24. This way, it is enabled for the fingers 21, 22 to swivel about the pins 23, 24 adapting therewith to the through-hole 16, 17 and the web 18, 19, respectively. According to the preferred embodiment, both the fingers 21, 22 and the slider 20 itself are formed sideways with longitudinally extending projections 25, 26, 27, 28 which facilitate guidance of the wedge unit in a groove 29, 30 of the depression 8. In this case, each through-hole 16, 17, as well, is formed with an identical groove 31, 32 in the respective place.

[0012] Said fingers 21, 22 are conically shaped on the side facing away from the slider 20 so that due to the force exerted by the slider 20 onto the elastic means 14 they can easily slip into the through-hole 16 at the bulky end 7 of the hinge carrier 5, where the web 18 which divides the through hole 16 wedges between said fingers. Said web 18 sets fingers 21, 22 apart, thus, arresting the hinge carrier 5 and preventing the rotation thereof about the hinge pivot 4. Potential vibration of the open shutter wing intensifies the grip of the fingers 21, 22 into the through-hole 16 and the web 18, stabilizing the shutter wing even more.

[0013] It is provided according to the second embodiment of the device for holding the shutter wing open that each slider 20 comprises only one finger 33, 34 pivotally connected thereto. Said finger is associated with each slider 20 by means of a pin 35, 36 enabling, in a manner known per se, swivelling of the finger. Each finger 33, 34 is slightly conical in the direction away from said pin 35, 36, and is guided in the bulky end 6 of the fixed hinge carrier 1 in the respectively formed depression 37, 38. Two through-holes 39, 40 of the identical cross-section as the depressions 37, 38 are provided in the bulky end 7 of the turnable hinge carrier 5 at the side facing the fixed hinge carrier 1, said through holes 39, 40 entirely coincide with said depressions 37, 38 of the fixed hinge carrier 1 when the shutter is in the open position. Also, with this second embodiment, similarly to the one described above, the control rod 12, 13 extends through the bottom of each depression 37, 38, said control rod being associated with the wedge unit 10, 11 enabling the longitudinal movements of said each wedge unit. Each wedge unit 10, 11 is continuously pressed against the turnable hinge carrier 5 by means of the elastic means 14, 15 arranged between each wedge unit 10, 11 and the bottom of each depression 37, 38.
