[0001] The present invention relates to a light projector preferably for outdoor environments
with a fastening device for a tilting lid in an open position.
[0002] Light projectors consisting of a lower body supporting a lamp and a transparent lens,
superiorly closed by a tilting lid hinged to said lower body are known.
[0003] This type of projector is particularly suitable for outdoor environments, in particular
for road lighting.
[0004] Once assembled, the projector is secured to a supporting pole, often at considerable
heights, and maintenance operations are consequently not easy.
[0005] In order to access the wiring or the lamp, the upper lid which is rather heavy in
virtue of the considerable dimensions of the projector, must be tilted.
[0006] The hinge with which said lid is connected to the lower body usually does not allow
excessive rotations, which are slightly higher than 90°.
[0007] The working place itself of the projector often does not allow rotations much higher
than 90° (for example in large industrial sheds or along tree lined roads).
[0008] A rotation slightly higher than 90° means an open position of the lid slightly diverging
from the vertical. This entails the risk of the lid suddenly closing, a situation
which is certainly to be avoided for the maintenance personnel working, for example,
on the top of a pole at ten metres from the ground by the edge of the road. As mentioned,
said lids are generally very heavy.
[0009] To prevent risks, maintenance personnel often use a hand to prevent the lid from
closing. This entails a reduced dexterity and a consequent considerable waste of time.
[0010] It is the object of the present invention to achieve a light projector of the type
described above with a device capable of safely fastening the lid in an open position.
[0011] According to the invention, this object is reached by means of a light projector
preferably for external environments consisting of a lower body supporting a lamp
and a transparent lens, superiorly closed by a tilting lid, characterised in that
it comprises a device integrated in the lower body for fastening said tilting lid
in an open position.
[0012] Said device allows the maintenance personnel to work in absolute safety, using both
hands to repair the projector. The lid can be returned to closed position only by
the deliberate action of the maintenance personnel on the device.
[0013] These and other features of the present invention will become further apparent from
the following detailed description of a practical embodiment thereof shown by way
of non-limitative example in the attached drawings, in which:
figure 1 shows a longitudinal section side view of a projector with closed lid;
figure 2 shows a longitudinal section side view of the projector in figure 1 with
open lid;
figure 3 shows a top plan view of the projector in figure 1 without lid;
figure 4 shows a top plan view of the projector in figure 2 without lid;
figure 5 shows a magnified detail of figure 3;
figure 6 shows a magnified detail of figure 4.
[0014] A light projector 1 consists of a lower body 2 superiorly closed by a tilting lid
3 hinged to said lower body 2 which presents a rear part 15 for fastening to external
supporting means (not shown).
[0015] The lower body 2 supports a lamp (not shown), a transparent lens 4 and a device 5
for fastening the lid 3 in an open position.
[0016] The device 5 comprises a turning fastening member 6 connected to a spring 7.
[0017] The fastening member 6 consists of a perforated base 8 rotationally fixed to the
lower body 2 by means of a pin 10 and by an elongated portion 9 integral with said
perforated base 8.
[0018] The perforated base 8 comprises an eyelet 11 to which an end of the spring 7 is connected,
the other end being hinged to the lower body 2.
[0019] A stop pin 12 establishes the maximum clockwise rotation of the fastening member
6.
[0020] The operation of the device 5 is very simple.
[0021] When the lid is closed (fig. 1) the fastening member 6 is found in home position
in figures 3 and 5 with the spring 7 which partially clasps the pin 10 pulled. The
traction force of the spring which induces the rotation of the fastening member 6
is contrasted by the contact between the end of the elongated portion and the lid
3.
[0022] When the lid 3 is opened, the latter contact comes less and the fastening member
6 is forced by the spring 7 to turn until the end of the elongated portion 9 touches
the stop pin 12.
[0023] In the taken position (figures 4 and 6), the elongated portion 9 prevents the lid
3 from closing.
[0024] Maintenance personnel can work in total safety using both hands to perform the repairs.
[0025] To close the lid 3, it will suffice to manually turn the fastening member 6 and at
the same time turn the lid 3 towards the closed position.
