(54) Method and apparatus to select a parameter/mode based on a time measurement

(57) Techniques are disclosed to select functional parameters and/or operating modes of a circuit based on a time measurement are disclosed. One example integrated circuit (303) includes a threshold detection and timing circuit (349) that is coupled to measure a signal during an initialization period of the integrated circuit (303) from a multifunction capacitor that is to be coupled to a first terminal of the integrated circuit (303). A selection circuit (351) is coupled to the threshold detection and timing circuit (349) to select a parameter/mode of the integrated circuit (303) in response to the measured signal from the multi function capacitor during the initialization period of the integrated circuit (303). The multi function capacitor is coupled to provide an additional function for the integrated circuit (303) after the initialization period of the integrated circuit (303) is complete.
