(54) Ink Cartridge


(57) An ink cartridge for use in an ink jet recording apparatus is provided. The ink cartridge is structured to be horizontally inserted into an ink jet recording apparatus in a mounting direction and comprises: an ink supplying part arranged on the front surface of the ink cartridge in the mounting direction for supplying ink from the ink cartridge to an ink jet recording apparatus and an irradiated part arranged on the front surface of the ink cartridge with the irradiated portion structured to be placed between two portions of an optical sensor of the inkjet recording apparatus. The irradiated part is arranged above the ink supplying part, when the ink cartridge is in a mounting orientation, and the irradiated part comprises a pair of opposing surfaces for facing the two portions of the optical sensor, the opposing surfaces extending substantially vertically, when the ink cartridge is in the mounting orientation.
