(54) Wobble wheel propulsor

(57) A wobble wheel propeller simulates the movement of fishtail that can be operated in sine wave motion in water. This propeller employs two flexible circular blades to drive the water from side to side, just like a fishtail swimming in the water.

Description

[0001] The present invention relates to a boat propeller, which has two flexible circular blades (see Fig 1). Two circular blades are fixed obliquely on a shaft with a finite angle. About 1/3 part of the blades are submerged in water, when the blades revolve with the shaft, they draw two symmetrical sinusoids in water and push water backward.

[0002] Up to the Seventies of the Twentieth Century, the conventional screw propeller has shown supremacy among the modes of ship propulsion. But the screw propeller is not efficient due to cavitations and turbulence generation. During the last decades, the non-conventional propulsion devices have presented to be competitive to the screw propeller. Especially the ducted propellers, the contra-rotating propellers, and the water jet propulsions have shown remarkable positive results. In the last years, the growing interest into fish, whale and dolphin propulsion is remarkable.

[0003] Sine wave propeller is invented to simulate the movement of the fish tail that can be operated with sine wave motion in water. The sine wave propeller employs two flexible circular blades to drive the water from side to side, just like a fishtail swimming in water. It generates less cavitations and turbulence, and has higher energy conversion efficiency.

[0004] The sine wave propeller uses two flexible circular blades to draw two sinusoids in different directions under water. These two sinusoids move symmetrically, which can counteract the wave generation. The sine wave propeller reduces cavitations as well as the waves. The earlier developments have been mainly concentrated on an increase in the efficiency of the propeller; the current efforts emphasize on both improving efficiency and reducing cavitations.

[0005] The sine wave propeller is composed of two circular blades and a shaft (see Fig1); these two circular blades are obliquely fixed on a shaft with a finite angle. The circular blades are made of flexible material, and 1/3 part of the blade is submerged in water. When shaft is rotating, the movement of edge of the blade generates the sine wave in water. It just likes a fishtail swimming in water. Therefore, it may generate higher energy conversion efficiency. It is a more efficiency propeller.

Claims

1. A water propeller has a circular blade fixed obliquely on a shaft with a finite angle. When shaft is rotating, movement of the edge of the blade generates a sine wave in water.

2. A circular blade is made up of flexible material, which is used as a water propeller.

3. A mechanism, which has two symmetrical circular blades fixed obliquely on the shaft with a finite angle, is used as the water propeller which may draw two symmetrical sinusoids in water.
