Needle shield interconnected to septum |
(57) The present invention is a catheter device (10). The catheter device will include
a septum (22) that is housed within a housing (26). The septum is designed such that
it will seal the housing. The catheter device also includes a needle shield (28).
The needle shield is configured to retain a needle (14) if the needle (14) is withdrawn
from the housing (26). The catheter device (10) is further configured such that the
septum (22) includes a receiving portion (34) that is designed to engage a portion
of the needle shield (28). However, if the needle (14) is withdrawn from the housing
(26), the needle shield (28) will disengage from the septum (22) so that the needle
shield (28) may be separated from the septum (22).
