[0001] The present invention relates to a roofing tile, and in particular to a roofing tile
provided with chimney outlet. The tile according to the invention has an innovative
structure with consequent applicative and manufacturing advantages.
[0002] It is known to use tiles of a special type which allow exit of the chimney to tile
roofs at the level of chimney outlets, and which also guarantee adequate protection
of the environment below. In addition to carrying out the aforesaid function, these
tiles must also be produced so that they can be adapted to the needs and structures
existing on the site.
[0003] Current tiles with chimney outlet are constituted by a sheet of lead that has, in
the center, a suitable hole to allow the chimney to exit. The choice of lead is linked
to the fact that this material has characteristics of malleability and deformability
that allow it to be worked and adapted on the site by the installer. At the same time,
it guarantees waterproofness and the function of covering and protecting the environment
below.
[0004] However, although satisfying current needs, the use of lead causes some problems
deriving from the toxic characteristics of this material.
[0005] There is therefore a need for roofing tiles provided with chimney outlet which perform
the functions required in terms of covering and protection, having characteristics
of easy workability and which do not cause problems of an environmental or ecological
nature.
[0006] On the basis of these considerations, the main aim of the present invention is to
provide a roofing tile, in particular a roofing tile provided with chimney outlet,
which makes it possible to overcome the aforesaid drawbacks.
[0007] Within the scope of this aim, an object of the present invention is to provide a
roofing tile, in particular a roofing tile provided with chimney outlet, which has
high characteristics of workability and adaptability at the installation site.
[0008] Another object of the present invention is to provide a roofing tile, in particular
a roofing tile provided with chimney outlet, which has high characteristics of wear-resistance
and which guarantees adequate protection of the environment below.
[0009] Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a roofing tile, in particular
a roofing tile provided with chimney outlet, which does not cause ecological or environmental
problems.
[0010] One more object of the subject matter of the present invention is to provide a roofing
tile, in particular a roofing tile provided with chimney outlet, which is highly reliable,
relatively easy to produce and at competitive costs.
[0011] This aim, and said objects and others which will be more apparent hereunder, are
obtained according to the invention with a roofing tile, in particular a roofing tile
provided with chimney outlet, comprising a covering having an opening and a mouth
for passage of the chimney which is positioned at the level of said opening; the tile
according to the invention is characterized in that said covering has a layered structure
comprising at least a first layer made of deformable metal material and at least a
second layer made of plastic material, said plastic material coating at least a portion
of a surface of said first layer.
[0012] It has in fact been seen that by producing a layered structure with the aforesaid
characteristics, it is possible to obtain a roofing tile wherein the covering fulfills
the functions of covering and protecting applications of this type, while at the same
time maintaining the properties of deformability and workability that allow easy use
thereof by the installer.
[0013] Further characteristics and advantages of the invention will be more apparent from
the description of preferred, although not exclusive, embodiments of a roofing tile,
in particular a roofing tile provided with chimney outlet, according to the invention,
illustrated by way of a non-limiting example in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
- Figure 1 is a sectional view of an embodiment of a roofing tile provided with chimney
outlet according to the invention;
- Figure 2 is a plan view of a covering of a roofing tile according to the invention;
- Figure 3 is an enlarged section of a detail of the edge of a covering of a roofing
tile according to the invention;
- Figure 4 is an enlarged section of a detail of the coupling between covering and mouth
for passage of the chimney at the level of the opening of said covering in a roofing
tile according to the invention;
- Figure 5 is a plan view of a particular embodiment of one of the layers forming the
covering of a roofing tile according to the invention.
[0014] With reference to the aforesaid figures, the roofing tile 1 with chimney outlet according
to the invention comprises a covering 10 which has an opening 11, generally at the
level of the center thereof; the tile also comprises a mouth for passage of the chimney
20 which is positioned at the level of said opening 11. In the tile according to the
invention, said covering 10 has a layered structure and comprises at least a first
layer 100 made of deformable metal material and at least a second layer 110 made of
plastic material; the layer 110 made of plastic material coats at least one surface
of said first layer 100.
[0015] In practice, the covering 10 constitutes the supporting surface of the tile 1 while
the mouth for passage of the chimney 20, preferably made of thermoplastic material,
has a slope suitable to guarantee verticality of the outlet once the tile is positioned
on the sloping surface of the roof.
[0016] Preferably, the first layer 100 made of deformable metal material forms the internal
side of said tile 1 while the second layer 110 made of plastic material forms the
external side. The terms internal and external refer to the tile in its conditions
of use, internal side being intended as the side that rests on the building and external
side being intended as the side that faces the open air.
[0017] Among the various possibilities, it has been seen that it is much more preferably
for the first layer 100 to be made of aluminum, while the second layer 110 can advantageously
be made of thermoplastic material, preferably a thermoplastic elastomer.
[0018] The characteristics of mechanical strength and workability of the covering 10 can
be modulated as a function of the thicknesses of the first and second layer 100, 110.
In particular, with reference to Figure 3, it has been seen that it is preferable
to produce a covering 10 in which the thickness of the layer made of plastic material
110 is greater, even considerably greater, than the thickness of the layer made of
metal material 100. For the latter, using aluminum as material, it has been seen that
it can be suitable to use thicknesses of 0.2-0-4 mm, for example approximately 0.3
mm.
[0019] Again with reference to Figure 3, it has been seen that it is preferable for the
second layer 110 to have a larger surface than the first layer 100, completely covering
not only one surface but also the perimeter; the first layer 100 is thus incorporated
in the second layer 110 which therefore constitutes the external surface and the lateral
edges of the covering 10 consequently improving the mechanical stability of said covering.
[0020] Preferably, as illustrated in Figure 4, at the level of the border of the opening
11 the first layer 100 is interposed between said mouth for passage of the chimney
20 and said second layer 110. In practice, the first layer 100 can advantageously
be composed of an aluminum sheet 108 having, at the level of said opening 11, a stepped
edge 101. Said stepped edge 101 has a first sloping section 102 which is joined to
the surface of the sheet 108 through a segment 103 substantially perpendicular to
the plane on which the sheet 108 lies. In this way the mechanical and hermetic seal
of the join between covering 10 and mouth for passage of the chimney 20 is guaranteed.
Other geometrical solutions for coupling the first layer 100, the mouth for passage
of the chimney 20 and the second layer 110 are naturally possible.
[0021] Figure 5 shows a preferred embodiment of the tile according to the invention. In
this case, the first layer 100 is constituted by a sheet 108, i.e. made of aluminum,
of suitable thickness which has an opening 11 substantially at the level of the center.
On the coupling surface of said sheet 108 with the layer made of thermoplastic material
110 (not shown in the figure) there are one or more stepped projections 104 protruding
from said surface. These stepped projections 104 constitute surfaces that increase
adhesion between the layer of thermoplastic material 110 and said sheet 108, mechanically
improving coupling stability between the layers forming the covering 10. In the embodiment
in Figure 5, the projections 104 are constituted by two concentric frames; other geometrical
forms and other arrangements of the projections 104 are naturally possible.
[0022] Alternatively or in addition to the projections 104, and again for the purpose of
increasing the mechanical seal of the coupling between the layers, it is also possible
to provide one or more through holes 105 on the sheet 108. In this case, during the
manufacturing process illustrated hereunder the thermoplastic material constituting
the second layer 110 penetrates these holes acting at least in part as lock pin and
improving the seal of the coupling. As illustrated in Figure 5, said holes 105 are
preferably positioned at the level of the projections 104.
[0023] The present invention also relates, in a further aspect thereof, to a procedure to
manufacture a roofing tile 1, in particular a roofing tile with chimney outlet, which
comprises a covering 10 and a mouth for passage of the chimney 20.
[0024] The manufacturing procedure according to the invention is characterized in that it
comprises the following steps:
- providing a first layer 100 made of deformable metal material, in the form of a sheet
108 provided with an opening 11;
- arranging a mouth for passage of the chimney 20 suitable to be coupled with the opening
11 of said sheet;
- arranging a mold suitable to receive said sheet 108 to produce said covering 10 and
positioning said sheet 108 and said mouth for passage of the chimney 20 in said mold;
- injecting into said mold a quantity of plastic material suitable to form a second
layer 110 of plastic material in contact with at least one surface of said sheet 108;
- removing the tile 1 thus formed from the mold, the covering 10 of said tile 1 comprising
at least one layer 100 made of deformable metal material and at least one layer 110
made of plastic material.
[0025] Using the process described above it is possible, quickly and relatively inexpensively,
to produce a tile 1 capable of satisfying the requirements required for this type
of application. It has in fact been seen that the technical solutions used allow the
set aims and the objects to be fully implemented. In particular, the roofing tile
provided with chimney outlet, according to the invention, is equipped with structural
and mechanical characteristics comparable or superior to those of conventional tiles
produced with a lead covering, due to the particular layered structure and appropriate
choice of materials and their thicknesses.
[0026] Moreover, the constructional characteristic of the tile according to the invention
allows it to be easily worked and quickly adapted to different conditions during installation.
Resistance to aging and wear is also guaranteed by the layered structure and by the
choice of the materials used to produce the first and the second layer of the covering.
[0027] The roofing tile provided with chimney outlet thus conceived is susceptible to numerous
modifications and variants, all falling within the scope of the inventive concept;
moreover, all the details can be constituted by others technically equivalent. In
practice, the materials used and the dimensions and possible shapes can be any according
to requirements and to the state of the art.
