(54) Wall smoothing device

(57) A smoothing device is disclosed, comprising an abrasive carried at the end of a rod (1), and a unit (3) moving said abrasive. The unit (3) is mounted at the end of said rod (1), opposite the abrasive and perpendicularly to said rod (1) and generally consists of a motor, preferably an electric motor.

Description

[0001] This invention refers to a wall smoothing device which allows improved manoeuvrability by the operator.

[0002] Wall smoothing is currently performed through a device consisting of a rod, at one end whereof an abrasive disc is attached. The other end acts as a handle. Near the handle, the rod carries a motor actuating the disc.

[0003] A device of this kind is extremely unbalanced and heavy.

[0004] The Applicant, through Italian utility model application no. AN2005U 000012, has disclosed a smoothing device, comprising an abrasive carried at the end of a rod, which rod may be connected to an external motion transmission unit for moving said abrasive. Although this solution appears to be extremely advantageous over the previous one, it always implies an imbalance of the device during use.

[0005] The problems set forth above are brilliantly solved by the present invention, referred to a smoothing device, comprising an abrasive carried at one end of a rod, comprising a unit moving said abrasive, characterised in that said unit is mounted at the end of said rod opposite the abrasive and perpendicular to said rod.

[0006] The present invention will now be described in greater detail, with reference to the only drawing, which shows a perspective view of the inventive device.

[0007] The device according to the present invention comprises a rod 1. At one end thereof, rod 1 carries a backing pad 2 supporting the smoothing abrasive on a rotary disc (not shown). The other end of rod 1 carries a moving device 3, for example a motor, in particular an electric motor. As can be seen from the drawing, according to the present model, such device 3 is arranged perpendicularly to rod 1.

[0008] The weight of moving unit 3 should preferably equal the weight of backing pad 2. More preferably, a gripping area (not shown in the drawing) can be provided, in a position on rod 1 chosen to allow the best balance of rod 1. Preferably it corresponds to the centre of volume of the rod (1).

[0009] During operation, the operator grips rod 1 and moves it so as to bring backing pad 2 against the wall to be smoothed. At this point, he starts moving device 3, so as to trigger rotation of the disc carried by backing pad 2. Since the disc has an abrasive surface, such surface touches the wall smoothing it.

[0010] The position of device 3 and the fact that it is perpendicular to rod 1 result in the rod being extremely well-balanced, implying greater manoeuvrability of the device and a more accurate, less laborious and faster wall smoothing.

Claims

1. Smoothing device, comprising an abrasive carried at the end of a rod (1), further comprising a unit (3) moving said abrasive, characterised in that said unit (3) is mounted at the end of said rod (1) opposite the abrasive and perpendicular to said rod (1).

2. Device as claimed in claim 1), characterised in that said moving unit (3) consists of a motor.

3. Device as claimed in claim 2), characterised in that said motor (3) is an electric motor.

4. Smoothing device as claimed in any previous claim, characterised in that the weight of the moving unit (3) equals the weight of the backing pad (2).

5. Smoothing device as claimed in any previous claim, characterised in that it includes a gripping area on the rod (1), corresponding to the centre of volume of the rod (1).
