[0001] The present invention relates to a stopping device for cabinet doors, doors, window
shutters or the like, such as a shutter stop or a door stop.
[0002] The stopping of shutters is traditionally accomplished through devices consisting
of a short shelf which carries, pivoted at the end opposite to the one fastened to
the wall carrying the shutter, a folding half-ring, generally made of metal. Such
half-ring is normally folded up below the shelf and, when the shutter is opened, it
is folded up inwards, so as to keep it in a firm position. Such device is effective,
but requires manual operations which, due to the position, are relatively complex.
[0003] Similar to the just described device is a device which - instead of the half-ring
- carries at the same end a substantially rectilinear, rigid pin (usually shaped as
a small figurine) which, with a closed shutter, dangles from the shelf. When one wants
to stop the shutter open, the figurine is flipped up and subsequently pushed downwards
to become lodged. In order to dislodge it, it is necessary to pull the pin upwards
to unlock it and to then flip it down. It is evident that the operation of this object
is more complex than the previous one; moreover, the device is more likely to break.
[0004] Italian patent no. 1 154 984 discloses a device for the automatic stopping of shutters at the end of the opening
run thereof, consisting of a small support shelf to be anchored to the wall, whereon
a U-shaped rocker device is hinged, which is hollow inside, capable of fully incorporating
the above-said shelf to stop the door between the arms of the above-said U. In order
to lock the U in position, a stopping loop is provided, equipped with a release flap.
The shutter is released by acting on the above-said flap. Such a system, which is
very effective in locking, however, is not simple to release and is extremely prone
to breakages.
[0005] The Applicant had recently designed a device for locking doors, windows, shutters
and the like, comprising a wall-mounting element which carries a bracket perpendicular
to the wall, said bracket oscillating about a hinging point on said fastening element.
Such a device, however, is rather difficult to unlock and is awkward to use for older
people.
[0006] The disadvantages set forth above are brilliantly overcome by the present invention,
which relates to a stopping device for cabinet doors, doors, shutters or the like,
comprising a wall-mounting element whereto a U-shaped element is hinged, characterised
in that said hinging is accomplished in the upper portion of the arm of said U.
[0007] The present invention will now be illustrated in greater detail in the accompanying
drawing, wherein:
[0008] fig. 1 is a lateral, partly cross-section view of the device according to the present
invention;
[0009] fig. 2 is a top plan view of the device according to the present invention;
[0010] fig. 3 is a view from behind, partly in cross-section, of the device according to
the present invention; and
[0011] fig. 4 is a perspective view of the device according to the present invention.
[0012] The device according to the present invention comprises a wall-mounting element 1.
A U-shaped element 3 is pivoted in 2 to said element 1. Said U-shaped element consists
of a base 4 and of two arms 5 and 6. Arm 5 is a cursor, slidable for adjustment within
a groove 7. Arm 6 is integral with the base and pivoting 2 is in the top part, even
though not normally in correspondence of the free end, of said arm 6.
[0013] From element 1 a braking pad 8 also departs, while the oscillation about pin 2 of
U-shaped element 3 occurs in the direction or against the action of a spring 9.
[0014] When one wants to use the device according to the present invention, the cabinet
door, door, shutter or the like is pushed to the wall. The position of cursor 5 will
be adjusted according to the thickness of the cabinet door, door, shutter to be stopped,
causing it to slide within groove 7 and stopping it with a suitable stopping screw
(not shown). The particular rounded shape of the engaging end of the cursor 5 causes
the door to slide thereon, pushing the element 3 downwards about pin 2. When the door
or the like is inside U-shaped element 3, said element is pushed upwards by spring
9 and stops the door in position. The door thus remains stopped between arms 5, 6
of U-shaped element 3 and the irreversible, kinematic shape prevents accidental dislodgement
thereof. The position of pivoting 2 allows to lower element 3 very lightly indeed,
so that disengagement is easy also for older or disabled people, without the device
nevertheless losing its stopping effectiveness.
[0015] During the disengagement step, the portion of arm 6 above pivoting 2 advances against
the shutter imparting a thrust thereto which eases the shutter recovery step during
closure.
1. Stopping device for cabinet doors, doors, shutters or the like, comprising a wall-mounting
element (1) whereto a U-shaped element (3) is pivoted (2), characterised in that said pivoting (2) occurs in the upper portion of the arm (6) of said U.
2. Device as claimed in claim 1), characterised in that said U-shaped element (3) consists of a base (4) and of two arms (5 and 6).
3. Device as claimed in claim 2), characterised in that one (5) of said arms (5, 6) is a cursor, sliding for adjustment within a groove (7).
4. Device as claimed in claim 3), characterised in that said cursor (5) has an irreversible kinematic shape.
5. Device as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, characterised in that from the wall-mounting element (1) a braking pad (8) also departs.
6. Device as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, characterised in that the oscillation about the pin (2) of the U-shaped element (3) occurs in the direction
or against the action of a spring (9).
