(54) Device for connecting railways


(57) The invention relates to a switching device for connecting railway track or tracks in more than one configuration. The switching device (52) comprises: a base (66) which is moveable between at least a first position and second position; at least a first track connecting portion (64) and a second track connecting portion (62) each of which are mounted on the base (66); a guide means for guiding the base when it is moved between said first and second positions; wherein the first track connecting portion (64) provides a track connection when the base is in the first position and the second track connecting portion (62) provides a track connection when the base (66) is in the second position; wherein the guide means is arranged so that when the base (66) is moved between the first and second positions, the base (66) is guided so the first connecting portion moves along a path which has both vertical and horizontal components.
