(54) Ophthalmic lens system with an electro-active lens element

(57) An ophthalmic lens system is disclosed which comprises a fixed optical power region having a progressive addition optical power region; and a dynamic optical power region, which may comprise an electro-active element, in optical communication therewith. The system may be arranged such that when electrical power is applied to the dynamic optical power region, the dynamic optical power region adds optical power that is additive to that of the progressive addition optical power region of said lens, but when no electrical power is applied the dynamic optical power region does not alter the focal length of the lens.
