POSTER MOUNTING

Description

[0001] This invention relates to the mounting of posters. In this specification the word "poster" is used as a general term and includes any form of sheet material bearing an image, artwork, or lettering, e.g. an advertising banner.

[0002] It is known to mount a poster on a mounting apparatus fixed to a support such as a wall, a light box, or the side of a vehicle. WO03/049069 discloses such an apparatus. With that apparatus, the edges of the poster have to be provided with beads by wrapping an edge portion of the poster around a bar.

[0003] WO03/083812 discloses an apparatus for stretching a piece of fabric over a frame. A lateral rod attached to the edge of the fabric is held within a lateral groove by lips at the edge of the groove.

[0004] WO98/55981 discloses a sign display system. A bolt rope is attached to the edge of the sign and is held within a cylindrical groove by lips at the edge of the groove.

[0005] WO00/05705 is entitled "mounting of flexible display panels". A hinge is disclosed having a fixed leaf and a movable leaf. The movable leaf contains a groove which receives an edge of a display sheet. The movable leaf is fixed in position, when the sheet is stretched out, using latches.

[0006] The invention provides a poster mounting apparatus including an elongate mounting member in the form of a hinge with a longitudinal axis, the hinge having a movable leaf and a fixed leaf which is securable to a support, the movable leaf having a longitudinale groove for receiving a bar-like portion provided on an edge of a poster, the movable leaf being pivotable about the hinge axis between an open position, in which the bar-like portion can be inserted into and removed from the said groove, and a closed position, in which the groove opens in a direction away from the main part of the poster so that the bar-like portion is retained in the groove, the movable leaf being releasably connectable to the fixed leaf to maintain the movable leaf in the closed position, wherein one leaf has a longitudinal projection which enters a recess on the other leaf when the movable leaf is in the closed position, catch means being provided to releasably retain the projection in the recess.

[0007] The present application also discloses an elongate edging element for a poster, comprising an extrusion having a strip-like portion for connection to an edge portion of the poster and a bar-like portion for connection to a poster mounting apparatus, characterised in that the strip-like portion comprises a first plastics material and is relatively flexible and the bar-like portion comprises a second plastics material and is relatively stiff.

[0009] The poster mounting apparatus shown in Figure 1 is in the form of a frame attached to one or more vertical supports (not shown). The frame is made up of four elongate mounting members 1 to 4: a top member 1, a bottom member 2, a left-hand member 3, and a right-hand member 4. The apparatus is intended for use with posters several metres long (e.g. 6 to 14 m) and several metres high. The mounting members 1 to 4 have substantially the same width and depth (thickness) and are connected together at mitred edges 5, which contributes to the stability of the apparatus.

[0010] The top mounting member 1 (Figures 2 and 3) consists of a single metallic extrusion (in particular made of aluminium) having a web 6 for attachment to a support and an upper body 7 with an undercut groove 8 which is open downwardly to receive an edging element provided on the poster as described below.

[0011] The bottom mounting member 2 is in the form of a hinge with a longitudinal hinge axis. The hinge has a movable leaf 9 and a fixed leaf 11, which is fixed to a support. Both leaves 9, 11 are metallic extrusions (in particular made of aluminium) and they are permanently connected together so that there is no risk of the movable leaf 9 being removed and damaged or lost in normal use. The fixed leaf 11 has an upper body 12 with a cylindrical bore 13 which retains a cylindrical hinge pin 14 integral with the movable leaf 9. The upper body 13 of the fixed hinge 11 is connected by a web 16 to a lower body 17 having a longitudinal recess 18 for receiving a longitudinal projection 19 formed on a lower body 21 of the movable leaf 9. The recess 18 has trapped within it a number of spring clips 22 for releasably retaining the projection 19 in the recess 18.

[0012] The leaf 9 is movable from the closed position shown in Figure 4 to an open position in which it extends roughly at right angles to the web 16 of the fixed leaf 11 and in which a bead provided on the edge of a poster can be easily inserted into or removed from a groove 23 (as described below). In the closed position of the movable leaf 9 the groove 23 opens in a direction away from the main part of the poster.

[0013] The side of mounting members 3, 4 are similar to the bottom mounting member 2, are parallel to each other, and are arranged mirror - symmetrically.

[0014] A poster 24 is indicated in chain dotted line in Figures 2 and 4. Each of the bottom, left-hand, and right-hand edges of the poster is provided with an elongate edging element 26 along almost the whole of its length. The edging element is constituted by an extrusion having a strip-like portion 27 for connection to an edge portion of the poster 24 and an oblong bar-like portion 28 serving as a bead for insertion into the groove 23 in the movable hinge leaf 9. The edging element 26 is made of two different plastics materials, which are extruded together. The strip-like portion 27 is resiliently flexible and tear-resistant and is made of an elastomeric material, in particular polyurethane. The bar-like portion 28 is relatively stiff and is made of a rigid or semirigid plastics material (in particular PVC). On one side of the strip like portion 27 is provided with a thin adhesive layer 29 extending from the free edge of the portion 27 up to a longitudinal rib 31 against which the edge of the poster can abut.

[0015] In the present embodiment the layer 29 is made of PVC and is intended to be connected to the poster by high-frequency welding. However, it could be made of any convenient adhesive material, such as a melt adhesive or a contact adhesive, optionally protected by a temporary covering foil.

[0016] The top edge of the poster is provided with an edging element 32 which is similar to the element 26, except that it has a bar-like portion which is of round cross-section.

[0017] To mount the poster 24, the edging elements 26 and 32 are fixed to the rear surface of the edge portions of the poster. The round bar-like portion 33 along the other edge of the poster is then slid along the groove 8 in the top mounting member 1, starting at one end. The left-hand and right-hand mounting members 3 and 4 are opened and the respective strip-like portions 27 at the left and right-hand edges of the poster are inserted into the respective grooves 23, and the bottom mounting member is also opened and the corresponding bar-like portion 28 is inserted into its groove 23. The movable leaves 9 of the left-hand, right-hand, and bottom mounting members 2 to 4 are moved to the closed position in any convenient order, thereby applying tension to the poster 24 and causing the bar-like portions 28 to be retained in the respective grooves 23.

Claims

1. A poster mounting apparatus including an elongate mounting member (2) in the form of a hinge with a longitudinal hinge axis, the hinge having a movable leaf (9) and a fixed leaf (11) which is securable to a support, the movable leaf (9) having a longitudinal groove (23) for receiving a bar-like portion (28) provided on an edge of a poster (24), the movable leaf (9) being pivotable about the hinge axis between an open position, in which the bar-like portion (28) can be inserted into and removed from the said groove (23), and a closed position, in which the groove (23) opens in a direction away from the main part of the poster (24) so that the bar-like portion (28) is retained in the groove (23), the movable leaf (9) being releasably connectable to the fixed leaf (11) to maintain the movable leaf (9) in the closed position, characterised in that one leaf (9, 11) has a longitudinal projection (19) which enters a recess (18) on the other leaf (9, 11) when the movable leaf (9) is in the closed position, catch means being provided to releasably retain the projection (19) in the recess (18).

2. A poster mounting apparatus as claimed in claim 1, in which the catch means comprises at least one spring (22) trapped in the recess (18),

3. A poster mounting apparatus as claimed in claim 1 or 2, having two said mounting members (2) arranged mutually parallel, spaced apart, and mirror-symmetrically.

4. A poster mounting apparatus according to any one of claims 1 to 3, in combination with an elongate edging element (26) for a poster (24) for retention in the groove, the elongate edging element comprising an extrusion having a strip-like portion (27) for connection to an edge portion of the poster (24) and a bar-like portion (28) for connection to a poster mounting apparatus.

5. A poster mounting apparatus as claimed in claim 4, in which the strip-like portion (27) comprises a first plastics material and is relatively flexible and the bar-like portion (28) comprises a second plastics material and is relatively stiff.

6. A poster mounting apparatus as claimed in claim 5, in which the strip-like portion (27) is resilient.

7. A poster mounting apparatus as claimed in claim 6, in which the first plastics material is an elastomeric material.

8. A poster mounting apparatus as claimed in any of claims 4 to 7, in which the strip-like portion (27) has a longitudinal rib (31) against which an edge of the poster (24) can abut.

9. A poster mounting apparatus as claimed in any of claims 4 to 8, in which the strip-like portion (27) has an adhesive layer (29) on one side.

10. A poster mounting apparatus as claimed in any of claims 4 to 9, in which the bar-like portion (28) has an oblong cross-section.

11. A poster mounting apparatus as claimed in any of claims 4 to 9, in which the bar-like portion (28) has a round cross-section.

12. A poster mounting apparatus according to any of claims 4 to 11, the strip-like portion (27) of the edging element (26) overlapping an edge portion of a poster (24), the bar-like portion (28) extending parallel to the corresponding edge of the poster (24).

13. A poster mounting apparatus as claimed in claim 12, in which the edge portion of the poster (24) adheres to the strip-like portion (27) of the edging element (26).

14. A poster mounting apparatus as claimed in claim 12 or 13, wherein the poster is mounted on the poster mounting apparatus using the elongate mounting member (2) in the longitudinal groove (23).

15. A poster mounting apparatus according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the elongate member is made of aluminium.

16. A poster mounting apparatus according to any one of the preceding claims, comprising four of the elongate mounting members.

Ansprüche

1. Plakathalterungsvorrichtung, die ein längliches Montageelement (2) in der Form eines Scharniers mit einer Längsscharnierachse umfasst, wobei das Scharnier eine bewegliche Scharnierhälfte (9) und eine stationäre Scharnierhälfte (11) aufweist, die an einer Halterung gesichert werden kann, wobei die bewegliche Scharnierhälfte (9) eine Längsnut (23) für das Aufnehmen eines stabartigen Abschnittes (28) aufweist, der an einem Rand eines Plakates (24) vorhanden ist, wobei die bewegliche Scharnierhälfte (9) um die Scharnierachse zwischen einer offenen Position, in der der stabartige Abschnitt (28) in die Nut (23) eingesetzt und daraus entfernt werden kann, und einer geschlossenen Position drehbar ist, in der sich die Nut (23) in einer Richtung weg vom Hauptteil des Plakates (24) öffnet, so dass der stabartige Abschnitt (28) in der Nut (23) gehalten wird, wobei die bewegliche Scharnierhälfte (9) lösbar mit der stationären Scharnierhälfte (11) verbunden werden kann, um die bewegliche Scharnierhälfte (9) in der geschlossenen Position zu halten, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass eine Scharnierhälfte (9,11) einen Längsvorsprung (19) aufweist, der in eine Aussparung (18) in der anderen Scharnierhälfte (9, 11) gelangt, wenn sich die bewegliche Scharnierhälfte (9) in der geschlossenen Position befindet, wobei eine Arretiereinrichtung vorhanden ist, um den Vorsprung (19) lösbar in der Aussparung (18) zu halten.

2. Plakathalterungsvorrichtung nach Anspruch 1, bei der die Arretiereinrichtung mindestens eine Feder (22) aufweist, die in der Aussparung (18) eingeschlossen wird.

3. Plakathalterungsvorrichtung nach Anspruch 1 oder 2, bei der die zwei Montagelemente (2) gegenseitig parallel, beabstandet und spiegelsymmetrisch angeordnet sind.

4. Plakathalterungsvorrichtung nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 3 in Verbindung mit einem länglichen Randeinfassungselement (26) für ein Plakat (24) für das Halten in der Nut, wobei das längliche Randeinfassungselement ein Profil aufweist, das einen streifenartigen Abschnitt (27) für eine Verbindung mit einem Randabschnitt des Plakates (24) und einen stabartigen Abschnitt (28) für eine Verbindung mit einer Plakathalterungsvorrichtung aufweist.

5. Plakathalterungsvorrichtung nach Anspruch 4, bei der der streifenartige Abschnitt (27) ein erstes Kunststoffmaterial aufweist und relativ biegsam ist und der stabartige Abschnitt (28) ein zweites Kunststoffmaterial aufweist und relativ steif ist.

6. Plakathalterungsvorrichtung nach Anspruch 5, bei der der streifenartige Abschnitt (27) elastisch ist.

7. Plakathalterungsvorrichtung nach Anspruch 6, bei der das erste Kunststoffmaterial ein elastomeres Material ist.

8. Plakathalterungsvorrichtung nach einem der Ansprüche 4 bis 7, bei der der streifenartige Abschnitt (27) eine Längsrippe (31) aufweist, an die ein Rand des Plakates (24) anstoßen kann.

9. Plakathalterungsvorrichtung nach einem der Ansprüche 4 bis 8, bei der der streifenartige Abschnitt (27) eine Klebstoffschicht (29) auf einer Seite aufweist.

10. Plakathalterungsvorrichtung nach einem der Ansprüche 4 bis 9, bei der der stabartige Abschnitt (28) einen länglichen Querschnitt aufweist.

11. Plakathalterungsvorrichtung nach einem der Ansprüche 4 bis 9, bei der der stabartige Abschnitt (28) einen runden Querschnitt aufweist.

12. Plakathalterungsvorrichtung nach einem der Ansprüche 4 bis 11, bei der der streifenartige Abschnitt (27) des Randeinfassungselementes (26) einen Randabschnitt eines Plakates (24) überdeckt, wobei sich der stabartige Abschnitt (28) parallel zum entsprechenden Rand des Plakates (24) erstreckt.

13. Plakathalterungsvorrichtung nach Anspruch 12, bei der der Randabschnitt des Plakates (24) am streifenartigen Abschnitt (27) des Randeinfassungselementes (26) haftet.

14. Plakathalterungsvorrichtung nach Anspruch 12 oder 13, bei der das Plakat in der Plakathalterungsvorrichtung montiert wird, indem das längliche Montageelement (2) in die Längsnut (23) eingesetzt wird.

15. Plakathalterungsvorrichtung nach einem der vorhergehenden Ansprüche, bei der das längliche Element aus Aluminium besteht.

16. Plakathalterungsvorrichtung nach einem der vorhergehenden Ansprüche, die vier der länglichen Montageelemente aufweist.

Revendications

1. Appareil de montage d'une affiche, englobant un élément de montage allongé (2) sous forme d'une charnière avec un axe de charnière longitudinal, la charnière comportant une feuille mobile (9) et une feuille fixe (11) pouvant être fixée sur un support, la feuille mobile (9) comportant une rainure longitudinale (23) pour recevoir une partie en forme de barre (28) agencée sur un bord d'une affiche (24), la feuille mobile (9) pouvant pivoter autour de l'axe de la charnière entre une position ouverte, dans laquelle la partie en forme de barre (28) peut être insérée dans ladite rainure (23) et retirée de celle-ci, et une position fermée, dans laquelle la rainure (23) est ouverte dans une direction allant à l'écart de la partie principale de l'affiche (24), de sorte que la partie en forme de barre (28) est retenue dans la rainure (23), la feuille mobile (9) pouvant être connectée de manière amovible à la feuille fixe (11) pour retenir la feuille mobile (9) dans la position fermée, caractérisé en ce qu'une feuille (9, 11) comporte une saillie longitudinale (19) rentrant dans un évidement (18) sur l'autre feuille (9, 11) lorsque la feuille mobile (9) se trouve dans la position fermée, un moyen de cliquet étant destiné à retenir de manière amovible la saillie (19) dans l'évidement (18).

2. Appareil de montage d'une affiche selon la revendication 1, dans lequel le moyen de cliquet comprend au moins un ressort (22) piégé dans l'évidement (18).

3. Appareil de montage d'une affiche selon les revendications 1 ou 2, comportant deux dits éléments de montage (2), agencés de manière mutuellement parallèle, espacée et à symétrie spéculaire.

4. Appareil de montage d'une affiche selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 3, en combinaison avec un élément de bordure allongé (26) pour une affiche (24) en vue d'une retenue dans la rainure, l'élément de bordure allongé comprenant une extrusion comportant une partie en forme de bande (27) destinée à être connectée à une partie de bordure de l'affiche (24), et une partie en forme de barre (28) destinée à être connectée à un appareil de montage d'une affiche.

5. Appareil de montage d'une affiche selon la revendication 4, dans lequel la partie en forme de bande (27) comprend un premier matériau plastique et est relativement flexible, la partie en forme de barre (28) comprenant un deuxième matériau plastique et étant relativement rigide.

6. Appareil de montage d'une affiche selon la revendication 5, dans lequel la partie en forme de bande (27) est élastique.

7. Appareil de montage d'une affiche selon la revendication 6, dans lequel le premier matériau plastique est un matériau élastomère.

8. Appareil de montage d'une affiche selon l'une quelconque des revendications 4 à 7, dans lequel la partie en forme de bande (27) comporte une nervure longitudinale (31) contre laquelle un bord de l'affiche (24) peut buter.

9. Appareil de montage d'une affiche selon l'une quelconque des revendications 4 à 8, dans lequel la partie en forme de bande (27) comporte une couche adhésive (29) sur un côté.

10. Appareil de montage d'une affiche selon l'une quelconque des revendications 4 à 9, dans lequel la partie en forme de barre (28) a une section transversale oblongue.

11. Appareil de montage d'une affiche selon l'une quelconque des revendications 4 à 9, dans lequel la partie en forme de barre (28) a une section transversale arrondie.

12. Appareil de montage d'une affiche selon l'une quelconque des revendications 4 à 11, dans lequel la partie en forme de bande (27) de l'élément de bordure (26) chevauche une partie de bordure d'une affiche (24), la partie en forme de barre (28) s'étendant parallèlement au bord correspondant de l'affiche (24).

13. Appareil de montage d'une affiche selon la revendication 12, dans lequel la partie de bordure de l'affiche (24) adhère à la partie en forme de bande (27) de l'élément de bordure (26).

14. Appareil de montage d'une affiche selon les revendications 12 ou 13, dans lequel l'affiche est montée sur l'appareil de montage de l'affiche par l'intermédiaire de l'élément de montage allongé (2) dans la rainure longitudinale (23).

15. Appareil de montage d'une affiche selon l'une quelconque des revendications précédentes, dans lequel l'élément allongé est composé d'aluminium.

16. Appareil de montage d'une affiche selon l'une quelconque des revendications précédentes, comprenant quatre desdits éléments de montage allongés.
