(54) Process for production of substituted cyclopentanone


(57) A process for producing a substituted cyclopentenone wherein the process comprises nine steps, the first step of which is a step of etherifying 1,3-cyclopentanedione to produce a compound represented by the following formula (21):

(wherein R32 represents a hydrogen atom or a substituent having 1 to 8 carbon atoms). This process can produce a substituted cyclopentanone which is useful as a jasmine fragrance, an intermediate thereof or the like, in a simple and inexpensive manner at a high cis-isomer ratio.
