[0001] The present invention relates to a book. Specifically to a book having pages with
pre-printed areas indicating specific anniversaries, such as silver wedding day, golden
wedding day and other wedding anniversaries.
[0002] Related material could be books where parents may write comments regarding events
in a child's life. Such a book could have a page with a headline "When I came home"
and an area for gluing in a picture.
[0003] As people celebrate their wedding anniversary they may feel the need to create a
record of their day, e.g. party with friends and family, a journey or what ever way
they celebrated their anniversary.
[0004] Wedding anniversaries have been given different names in different countries, and
it is not in common in all countries to celebrate all anniversaries in the same manner.
In some countries, like Denmark, it is common to have a celebration of 12 ½ years
anniversary of marriage. In most countries 25 years and 50 years of marriage is celebrated.
[0005] When a person wishes to collect objects, i.e. memorable things, representing a sentimental
value to the person, one may use an old fashion photo album with a number of pages
each comprising pockets for receiving photos. Such an album may e.g. be formed in
the size of an A4 page with four pockets each of a size for accommodating one photo
in the size 10x15 cm, or similar sizes. The user may then try to place objects inside
the relatively small pockets.
[0006] The present invention relates to a book or booklet comprising a number of pages,
where the one of the pages are adapted to receive objects that the user regards as
a representation of the event that he and/or she wishes to remember. Such objects
may be memorabilia or memento. Common mementoes include pictures, pamphlets from events
or places, e.g. restaurants or venues/sites visited, programs, invitations, guest
lists, a song written specifically to the event, table decoration etc.
[0007] Some have designed boxes for storing objects, such as described and disclosed in
US 5,096,056. Others have produced computer designed events books, such as described in
US 2002/0001102 and
WO 02/03236. Event books like the one shown in
US 2002/0185859 help plan an event like a wedding but do not allow storing memorabilia from later
celebrations of weddings, and especially not several celebrations. Reference is made
to the above mentioned publications, all of which are hereby incorporated in the present
specification by reference in their entirety for all purposes.
[0008] The present invention further relates to a book comprising:
a set of pages, where the set of pages include a first page having a first side and
an opposite second side, the first side having a printed area with a pseudonym representing
a specific anniversary and/or a specific event and/or a specific jubilee, the second
side of the first page being provided with a pocket, the first page or one or more
following pages including at least one areas for receiving written text.
[0009] The pocket is adapted for receiving material such as pamphlets, photos, well-whishing,
menus and other objects. This allows a person to collect objects that he or she regards
as representative of the anniversary. The pocket may also be construed as a compartment.
In particular as a substantially flat compartment.
[0010] The book according to the present invention may further be used for recording information
regarding a course or progress of a disease and the therapy or treatment of the disease.
In particular recording of treatment of terminal diseases such as AIDS or terminal
cancer. Also for recording of treatment of chronic, non-terminal diseases, such as
non-terminal cancer, asthma, diabetes, blood clot, thrombus, embolus, heart disease,
heart trouble, heart disorder or the like.
[0011] In this respect the book is used to record medication and other treatments, such
as chemotherapy, regional chemotherapy, radiation treatment, EEGs and the like.
[0012] This recording is contemplated to give the patient and relatives the possibility
to have an overview of the course of treatment, and may be used e.g. in the event
of proving any liability on a hospital or doctors. Also the information may be used
by the patient to gain an overview of the whole course of treatment after a restoration
to health or recovery, e.g. in the case of non-terminal, treatable cancer. When being
diagnosed with a grave disease such as cancer, it may be difficult to have an overview
of the on-going treatment while they take place. The book is then contemplated to
serve as a memory bank for the patient.
[0013] The book allows the combination of storing items, e.g. photos, print-outs, test results
etc. along with recording personal notes and possible recording medication information.
This is contemplated to give the patient the possibility to also asses the effect
of medication, e.g. certain medication may give specific side-effects which may be
recorded and give the patient, and care assistants or nursing staff an insight to
the patients reaction and personal experience of the medication and treatment.
[0014] The patient may record personal feelings, which may later be correlated to the treatment
performed at the time. The book is contemplated to represent or give an account of
the treatment and the state of mind of the patient.
[0015] The set of pages may include 2, 3, 4, 5 or more pages. The first page in the set
includes an area either having a pre-printed text representing a specific anniversary,
such as a one year anniversary, a silver anniversary or the like. The text may be
represented by a pseudonym, such as silver wedding, or by a number representing a
number of years.
[0016] Emily Post wrote in the book 'Etiquette in society, in business, in politics and
at home' published in 1922, a short list of names for wedding anniversaries. The list
is presently also published at www.bartleby.com/95/22.html. The list comprised:
1 year, paper
5 years, wood
10 years, tin
15 years, crystal
20 years, china
25 years, silver
50 years, gold
75 years, diamond
[0017] In some countries more years than listed above is given a name.
[0018] In an advantageous embodiment of the present invention the pocket may be formed by
a second sheet of material attached to the first page at the second side thereof.
In some embodiments of the present invention, the pocket may be secured to the second
side by gluing or welding. The pocket is preferably not attached at the entire circumference
of the second sheet. A part of the circumference of the second sheet is preferably
left unattached so as to form the opening of the pocket. Alternatively a slit or opening
may be formed in a sheet material for establishing an opening.
[0019] Further advantageously the outline of the second sheet of material may at least partly
be defined by four side parts, where a first side part and a second side part are
positioned parallel and a third and fourth side are orientated perpendicular to the
first side part and the second side part. The four side parts may together define
part of a square or rectangle.
[0020] The first page may have a first overall length and a first overall width, and the
second page may have a second overall length and a second overall width. In the presently
preferred embodiment of the present invention the first overall length and the second
overall length are substantially equal. In a further embodiment the first overall
width and the second overall width are substantially equal. However as will be explained
below, the pocket may be formed by a sheet material with include a cut-out. The overall
size of the sheet material may still be substantially equal to that of the first page.
[0021] In one embodiment of the present invention, the pages in the set of pages are formed
of dense cardboard pages. In such an embodiment, the pages are substantially non-bendable
or mostly inflexible. Alternatively the pages may be heavy or thick pieces of paper.
It may be noted that any suitable material may be used for the pages and for the cover
of the book.
[0022] The set of pages may further include areas adapted for receiving handwritten information
from a user of the book, e.g. by use of a pen, pencil or any other writing utensil.
[0023] In a further embodiment of the present invention the outline of the second sheet
of material may include a non-linear part interconnecting the first side part and
the third side part, thereby forming an opening pocket for receiving objects. The
first side part may e.g. be the top part of the second sheet and the third side part
may be any of the parts not being parallel with the first part, such as the left side
part of the sheet. Preferably at least part of the non-linear part may be defined
by a part of a circle.
[0024] In a particular embodiment of the present invention the pocket may be formed by a
second page of paper joined to the second side of the first page. The material used
for the pocket is preferably of a more flexible sort than the material used for the
first page. Alternatively the pocket may be formed by a sheet of plastic material.
Any material suitable for attachment to the first page and for providing a flexibility
to the pocket may be used. The pocket may further include an edge reinforcement or
enhancement for enhancing or increasing the strength of the edge of the pocket where
the user inserts objects.
[0025] Advantageously the first page may define a rectangular geometry or a square geometry.
[0026] Further advantageously a page of the set of pages may include an area adapted to
receive hand written indication of at least a part of a year. The area may include
pre-printed text and/or line indicating where the user is to write the year of the
anniversary. The text may include the two first numbers in the year, e.g. 19, 20 or
21, followed by a number of dots or a line.
[0027] A particular advantageous embodiment of the book according to the present invention
may comprise a plurality of sets corresponding to a plurality of anniversaries. Each
set of pages are then used for a particular anniversary. In one embodiment the book
comprises two sets, one for the silver anniversary and one for the golden anniversary.
As mentioned above different countries have different traditions, and e.g. in a version
of the book targeted at Denmark the book could comprise two sets of pages, one set
for 12½ year anniversary known as copper wedding anniversary in Denmark, 25 year anniversary.
Alternatively the book may comprise one set for each year from 1 to 25 year anniversary.
[0028] Preferably a set of pages are jointed by fastening means. Such fastening means may
include staples and/or glue. Multiple sets of pages may be joined in a similar manner.
The book according to the basic teachings of the present invention may be a hardback
book or paperback book.
[0029] The present invention is now to be explained in greater detail with reference to
the figures, in which:

[0030] Fig. 1 is an image of a front page on a book according to the present invention.
The page comprises a printed title, here an image of a Danish version of the book
with the title "vore bryllupsdage", which translates into "our wedding anniversaries".
[0031] Fig. 2 is an image of a page in the book according to the teachings of the present
invention, showing a page that may comprise a short introduction or description of
the intended use of the book. The text is meant as a source of inspiration to the
person or persons using the book.
[0032] Fig. 3 is an image of a book where the person or persons using the book may insert
or attach a photograph, such as a wedding photo showing the married couple in wedding
dress or clothes.
[0033] The book according to the present invention comprises at least one set of pages where
a person or persons may record, e.g. by writing, memories regarding a specific anniversary.
The book may also be used for storing and organising memorabilia, such as menus, guest
list, small table decoration etc.
[0034] Fig. 4 is an image of a first page of a set of pages as mentioned above. The page
comprises indication of the specific anniversary. The page shown in Fig. 4 is a page
regarding the 14th wedding anniversary, indicated by "14 år", i.e. "14 years". In
Danish the 14th wedding anniversary is also known under the name "elfenbensbryllup",
which may be translated into ivory wedding anniversary. In other countries the anniversaries
may have other names and/or meanings.
[0035] The page shown in Fig. 4 further comprises supplementary decorative images.
[0036] Fig 5 and 6 are images of pages with a pocket. The pages shown in Fig. 5 and 6 are
in the presently preferred embodiment of the present invention the back side of the
page shown in Fig. 4. The pocket 10 and 10' is preferably formed by attaching a sheet
material to the page 12. The page 12, being the backside of the page in Fig. 4, and
the sheet 14 and 16 respectively, together form a pocket for receiving material.
[0037] The sheet 14 further comprises openings 18 and 20. The openings 18 and 20 in Fig.
5 are shown as heart shaped openings. The openings are contemplated to allow a person
looking in the book to possible spot material not sticking out of the pocket opening,
and/or to create an improved viewing experience. The openings may additionally serve
to reduce stiffness in the sheet 14.
[0038] The sheets 14 and 16 may be of a paper material. In some embodiments the sheet may
be of the same paper material as the remaining pages. Alternatively the sheet material
may be a plastic material or any other material giving the pocket sufficient strength
to be opened and handled multiple times without breaking.
[0039] The sheet 14 includes a non-linear path 22 defined from one side 24 to another side
26 of the page 12. The non-linear path 22 may have other shapes than that shown in
Fig. 5. The non-linear path may include jag, serration, waves or part of waves, or
any other suitable geometry or combinations thereof.
[0040] The edge of the sheet 14 and 16 may include reinforcement. The reinforcement may
e.g. be plastic material or paper material wrapped around the edge/non-linear part.
[0041] The sheet 16 includes a linear part 28. The pocket may include any of the features
mentioned above.
[0042] Fig. 7 is an image of page of the book according to the present invention where the
page includes pre printed information and areas for the person or persons using the
book to write additional information regarding the celebration of the anniversary.
The page includes an area for writing who was responsible for the arrangement, i.e.
who planned the anniversary, such a restaurant or event maker or the like.
[0043] Also an area for writing which year the anniversary took place.
[0044] A larger area for writing specific details regarding the program, e.g. times and
places.
[0045] Fig. 8 is an image of a page for recording or writing details regarding the evening
program, where it took place and details about specific events during the evening.
[0046] Fig. 9 is an image of a page for recording or writing general information regarding
the anniversary.
[0047] The pages shown in the figures/images may be combined in any order and pages may
be left out if desired. A basic version of the book according to the present invention
comprises a front page, as shown in Fig. 1, a page as shown in Fig. 4 and one of the
pages shown in Fig. 5 or 6.
[0048] Preferably the pages form part of a book where the pages are joined at one side part,
either by gluing, stapling or by used of any other fastening means.
[0049] In an alternative embodiment of the book according to the present invention, the
first page and/or one or more subsequent pages include an area for receiving written
information, e.g. hand written text recording the experience of the person owning
the book. This could be in connection with the treatment of a disease, e.g. cancer,
aids or the like.
[0050] The areas for receiving written text could be used for recording information regarding
treatment, such as medication, radiation treatment etc. The above mentioned captions
and titles may then be replaced by other text, such as: diagnose, initial treatment,
after one month, after six months, cured!, etc.
[0051] The pocket described above may be used for storing information regarding the treatment
and/or stays in a hospital, such as copies of prescriptions, print-out of test results,
photographs of the patient, e.g. taken at different times and periods, or other items
that the person owning the book considers valuable or memorable.
