[0001] The invention relates to a rabbet part, more particularly for use as part of an outside
wall covering.
[0002] Rabbet parts are known in the state of art and are arranged for partially overlapping
placement against an outside wall of a façade for forming an outside wall covering
or façade covering. Known rabbet parts are made of wood or synthetic material.
[0003] The aim of the invention is to provide an improved rabbet part.
[0004] The rabbet part according to the invention has the feature, that the rabbet part
comprises steel.
[0005] The choice of steel is unconventional, but has various advantages. Steel rabbet parts
are water-resistant and by that highly suitable for outdoor applications. Steel rabbet
parts provide sufficient resistance against wind loads and have a low contribution
to fire propagation. The steel rabbet part complies with the highest NEN standards
in relation to the previously mentioned requirements. Steel is also colourfast, so
that rabbet parts can be provided with a high-quality finish. The production of rabbet
parts is more inexpensive than for example synthetic rabbet parts and beside that
the steel is recyclable.
[0006] In a first preferred embodiment the steel is galvanized and preferably the steel
is provided with a covering layer.
[0007] According to a practical preferred embodiment the rabbet part according to the invention
is provided on the back side with collecting means for water from condensation, that
in assembled state can arise on the back side of the outside wall covering. Preferably
the collecting means comprise an integrated drain. In the drain the water from condensation
will automatically evaporate without damaging the building.
[0008] According to an elegant preferred embodiment the lower side of the rabbet part is
provided with a first curved part and the upper side of the rabbet part is provided
with a second curved part, in which the first and second curved part of adjacently
placed rabbet parts are arranged for cooperation. Preferably the first and second
curved parts of adjacently placed rabbet parts are arranged for overlapping placement.
For that the angle of curvature of the first and second curved part is substantially
equal and preferably lies between 30 and 50 degrees and more preferably substantially
is 40 degrees.
[0009] In an insulated embodiment the rabbet part is provided on the back side with insulating
material. In an economic sandwich construction the rabbet part is provided on the
back side with a back plate and the insulating material is fitted between the rabbet
part and the back plate.
[0010] The invention also relates to a method for the manufacturing of a rabbet part according
to the invention, in which the method comprises the step of rolling on steel sheet
material to form the rabbet part. By applying the technique of rolling on the production
can take place in a short amount of time.
[0011] The invention will now be further elucidated with reference to the accompanying figures,
in which
Figure 1 shows in schematic side view a part of the outside wall covering formed by
rabbet parts according to the invention;
Figure 2A shows a cross-sectional view through the rabbet parts of Figure 1;
Figure 2B shows a more detailed view of a part of Figure 2A;
Figure 3 shows a cross-sectional view through a first preferred embodiment of a rabbet
part according to the invention; and
Figure 4 shows a cross-sectional view through a second preferred embodiment of a rabbet
part according to the invention.
[0012] Figure 1 shows in schematic side view a part of the outside wall covering 1 formed
by a number of rabbet parts 10 according to the invention. Figure 2A shows a cross-sectional
view through the rabbet parts 10 of Figure 1 and Figure 2B shows a more detailed view
of part of Figure 2A.
[0013] The rabbet parts are fitted partially overlapping to an outside wall. Each rabbet
part is provided on the back side with a first or bottommost curved part 11 and with
a second or uppermost curved part 12. The first and second curved parts of adjacent
rabbet parts need to be placed in an overlapping manner.
[0014] Figure 3 shows a cross-sectional view through a first preferred embodiment of a rabbet
part 10 according to the invention. The rabbet part 10 is generally plank shaped and
is intended for horizontal placement to an outside wall. It is clear that adjacent
to the first curved part 12 a raised rim 13 is provided. This raised rim 13 is provided
with fastening means for fixation to the outside wall. An example of suitable fastening
means are slits for the passage of screws. On the other side the uppermost curved
part 12 abuts the front side 15 of the rabbet part 10. The bottommost curved part
11 is attached to the front side 15 by means of a cross connection 16. Curved part
11, cross connection 16 and front side 15 together form an integrated drain 17 for
collection of water from condensation.
[0015] The front side 15 consist of two substantially straight running parts 15-1 and 15-2,
which are connected together by a bevelled part 15-3.
[0016] Figure 4 shows a cross-sectional view through a second preferred embodiment of a
rabbet part 20 according to the invention. Rabbet part 20 is also generally plank
shaped, but is intended for vertical placement to an outside wall covering. Rabbet
part 20 distinguish itself from rabbet part 10 by an alternative shaped front side
25, which consists of two substantially straight running parts 25-1 and 25-2, which
are connected together by a cross connection 25-3. For the remaining the rabbet part
20 is equal to rabbet part 10. It will be clear that drain 17 cannot provide collection
of water from condensation due to the vertical placement. Near the lowermost rabbet
part in the outside wall covering a weathering must therefore be installed. Weatherings
for outside wall covering are known in the field.
[0017] In the showed preferred embodiments the curved parts 11 and 12 have a substantially
equal angle of curvature α
1, respectively α
2.. This angle of curvature preferably lies between 30 and 50 degrees and preferably
is substantially 40 degrees.
[0018] Rabbet part 10 and 20 are preferably manufactured by rolling on sheet metal by means
of rollers. Preferably the sheet metal is provided with a Zinc layer of Sendzimir.
The sheet metal can also be provided with a covering layer (coating). A few examples
for suitable covering layers are a conversion layer with phosphate/chromate and/or
a primer and/or a top coating. For the prevention of cracking in the covering layers
the corners of the rabbet part according to the invention are rounded off instead
of squared.
[0019] Optionally the rabbet part can be provided on the back side with insulation material.
In a favorable sandwich construction the back side of the rabbet part is provided
with a back plate, preferably made of steel, in which the insulation material between
the rabbet part and the back plate is fitted.
[0020] The invention is finally explicitly not limited to the described and shown preferred
embodiments, but extends to any embodiment falling within the scope of protection
