[0001] The present invention relates to a hinge system for door or window assemblies, particularly
but not exclusively for third leaves.
[0002] In the field of hinge systems for door or window assemblies, brackets are currently
known which, when fixed to the third leaf, allow to hinge it to another leaf by means
of hinges of the two-pin type.
[0003] The two-pin hinge, commonly known as Anuba hinge, has two cylindrical elements, each
provided with a radial pin that is adapted to engage in holes for mating with a leaf
or with the frame of a door or window assembly.
[0004] Of these cylindrical elements, a first one is female and the second one is male and
is provided with a pivot that is adapted to be accommodated in a compartment provided
in the female element, and such cylindrical elements can mutually rotate about the
axis of the pivot.
[0005] The brackets have a body that is provided with an insertion seat for an Anuba pin
and with a tab for fixing to the so-called third leaf, i.e., to the leaf of the door
or window assembly that is hinged to another leaf instead of to the frame.
[0006] The body of the bracket is fixed by means of screws to the face of the third leaf,
or of the leaf to which such third leaf is hinged, with the tab inserted in a dedicated
hole provided on the edge that is adjacent to such face.
[0007] The leaves to be hinged to the frame are provided with holes on their sides, at the
region for fixing the Anuba hinges, whereas the so-called third leaves are instead
preset either with the holes dedicated to accommodation of the bracket fixing tabs,
provided on the sides, or with holes dedicated to accommodation of a pin of the Anuba
hinge, provided on the face.
[0008] One drawback of this solution therefore is that the third leaves are not interchangeable
with the other leaves during installation of the door or window assembly.
[0009] The aim of the present invention is to provide a hinge system for door or window
assemblies that obviates this drawback by allowing to use, as third leaves, leaves
provided only with the accommodation holes for the pins of the hinges.
[0010] Within this aim, an object of the invention is to provide a hinge system for door
or window assemblies that is stronger than currently known ones that use Anuba hinges.
[0011] Another object of the invention is to provide a hinge system that is simple and easy
to use and can be manufactured with low costs.
[0012] This aim and these and other objects, which will become better apparent hereinafter,
are achieved by a hinge system for door or window assemblies, particularly for third
leaves, comprising a hinge provided with a male cylindrical element, said hinge being
further provided with a female cylindrical element that is shaped to accommodate a
pivot that protrudes from said male cylindrical element, said male cylindrical element
being further provided with at least two first radial and parallel pins, said female
cylindrical element being provided with at least two second radial and parallel pins,
said first and second pins being designed to be inserted in mating holes provided
in leaves and in frames to be hinged,
characterized in that it comprises a bracket for mating said hinge with a first one of said leaves, with
fixing of said hinge to a stile of a second one of said leaves, said bracket comprising:
- a body provided with seats for accommodating said first pins, and
- at least one tab for engaging said mating holes.
[0013] Further characteristics and advantages of the invention will become better apparent
from the following detailed description of a preferred but not exclusive embodiment
of the hinge system according to the invention, illustrated by way of non-limiting
example in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a view of a door or window assembly equipped with hinge systems according
to the invention;
Figure 2 is a front elevation view of a hinge system according to the invention in
the operating configuration;
Figure 3 is a sectional view of the hinge system according to the invention, taken
along the line III-III of Figure 2.
[0014] It is noted that anything found to be already known during the patenting process
is understood not to be claimed and to be the subject of a disclaimer.
[0015] With reference to the figures, the reference numeral 10 generally designates a hinge
system for door or window assemblies, particularly for third leaves, which comprises
a hinge 11 provided with a male cylindrical element 12 and with a female cylindrical
element 13 that is shaped so as to accommodate a pivot that protrudes from the male
cylindrical element 12.
[0016] The male cylindrical element 12 is further provided with at least two radial and
parallel first pins 14, the female cylindrical element 13 being provided with at least
two second pins 15, which are likewise radial and parallel.
[0017] The first pins 14 and the second pins 15 are adapted to be inserted in mating holes
18 provided in leaves 16 and in frames 17 to be hinged.
[0018] According to the invention, the hinge system 10 comprises a bracket 19 for mating
the hinge 11 with a first one 16a of the leaves 16, with fixing of the hinge 11 to
a stile 20 of a second one 16b of the leaves 16.
[0019] The bracket 19 comprises:
- a body 21 provided with seats 22 for accommodating the first pins 14,
- at least one tab 23 for engagement of the mating holes 18.
[0020] The hinge system 10, when the first leaf 16a is hinged to the second leaf 16b, has
the first pins 14 inserted in the stile 20 and the second pins 15 inserted in the
accommodation seats 22, the tab 23 engaging the mating holes 18.
[0021] Conveniently, there is a plurality of tabs 23, which advantageously comprises a number
of tabs 23 that is equal to the number of mating holes 18 (for example two).
[0022] The tabs 23 preferably have a shape that emulates the second pins 15, so as to accommodate
precisely in the accommodation seats 22.
[0023] Moreover, there are screws 24 for fixing the bracket 19 to the first leaf 16a and
insertion passages 25 for the fixing screws 24, which are provided through the tabs
23, conveniently coaxially thereto.
[0024] Conveniently, there are also screws 26 for locking the body 21 to a face 27 of the
first leaf 16a.
[0025] Advantageously, the tabs 23 protrude from a ledge 28 that protrudes from the body
21 and are inserted in the mating holes 18, which are formed on an edge 29 of the
first leaf 16a, as well as on the other leaves 16, in a position that is substantially
adjacent to the face 27.
[0026] In practice it has been found that the invention achieves the proposed aim and objects,
by providing a hinge system that allows to use, as third leaves, leaves provided only
with the mating holes for the hinge pins, since the tabs of the brackets are inserted
therein without therefore requiring holes dedicated to them.
[0027] Further, a hinge system according to the invention is stronger than currently known
ones that use Anuba hinges, since it uses two or more pins for connection of the hinge
to the leaf and to the bracket.
[0028] In practice, the materials used, as well as the contingent shapes and dimensions,
may be any according to requirements and to the state of the art.
