[0001] The present invention relates to a surface treatment tool and a surface treatment
spare part for said tool.
[0002] More specifically, the present invention relates to surface treatment tools of the
type comprising a base commonly referred to as plate having a first face with an element
for the connection to a rotation drive shaft and a second face opposite thereto with
a surface for the mechanical fastening by contact (for example, by means of a Velcro
system) with a surface treatment laminar spare part. Said tools have the advantage
of being easy to construct and of allowing the easy exchange of surface treatment
discs or spare parts without needing to change the plate. When the disc shows external
signs of deterioration as a result of the mechanical connection by contact, the disc
is simply removed from the surface and replaced with a new one. It is also possible
with one and the same plate to use discs for various operations (sanding, polishing
...). The known types of plates forming this type of tool exclusively have a saucer
shape with the second face being planar as a result of the laminar arrangement of
the disc. However, the problem they present for the treatment of irregular surfaces
(with radii of curvature, etc.) is that the disc wears in a non-uniform manner, and
vibrations are furthermore produced due to the little support of the disc on the surface
to be treated. As a result, highly qualified operators are required for the treatment
of nonplanar surfaces with this type of tool.
[0003] The objective of the present invention is to describe a new surface treatment tool
of the type indicated above, as well as new spare parts solving the aforementioned
problems.
[0004] To achieve its objectives, the present invention comprises a new tool, a new surface
treatment spare part as well as said tool together with the surface treatment spare
part.
[0005] More specifically, the present invention comprises a surface treatment tool of the
type comprising a base or plate having a first face with an element for the connection
to a rotation drive shaft and a second face opposite thereto with a surface for the
mechanical fastening by contact with a surface treatment laminar spare part, in which
said second face has a frustoconical shape. Preferably, the cone angle of the second
frustoconical face is between 3° and 5°. In the present invention the term "mechanical
fastening by contact" refers to removable mechanical fastenings, for example mechanical
fastenings by contact in which the surfaces have a fastening system by means of loops
and hooks, such as for example the known Velcro-type system.
[0006] To perform surface treatment jobs, the corresponding laminar element with a frustoconical
shape coinciding with that of the second face must be adhered in the mentioned second
face.
[0007] Accordingly, the present invention also comprises a surface treatment spare part
for the tool of the aforementioned type, the mentioned spare part being formed as
a laminar element with a face for fastening to the tool and another face for surface
treatment, having a frustoconical shape as a feature.
[0008] Likewise, the cone angle of the tool will be between 3° and 5°. The face for fastening
to the tool will be a surface pertaining to a fastening system by means of loops and
hooks, for example a Velcro-type system.
[0009] In the particularly preferred embodiments, the spare part will be formed with a precut
multilayer laminar blank.
[0010] The present invention achieves an improvement in the performance due to the greater
adaptation of the tool to the surfaces. It furthermore achieves a considerable elimination
of vibrations during surface treatment processes. Finally, due to the lower vibration
value, the qualification requirements of the operators are reduced. Accordingly, since
the present invention achieves a larger contact surface, it provides a better finish
and greater working comfort, simultaneously increasing the performance and the duration
of the disc, and therefore obtaining higher productivity.
[0011] Several drawings of an embodiment of the surface treatment tool and a surface treatment
spare part for said tool object of the present invention are attached for further
understanding by way of a non-limiting explanatory example.
[0012] Figure 1 shows a perspective view of a tool according to the present invention.
[0013] Figure 2 shows a side elevation view of a tool according to the present invention.
[0014] Figure 3 shows a perspective view of a tool according to the present invention, having
a surface treatment spare part adhered thereto.
[0015] Figure 4 shows a side elevation view of the tool with a surface treatment spare part.
[0016] Figure 5 shows a tool with a spare part in the working arrangement.
[0017] Figure 6 shows a drawing similar to that of Figure 5 with a tool having a surface
treatment spare part different from the one in Figure 5.
[0018] Figure 7 shows a spare part according to the present invention.
[0019] Figures 1 and 2 show a surface treatment tool comprising a base or plate -1- having
the general shape of a saucer, in this case circular, comprising a first face -11-
with an element -12- for the connection to a rotation drive shaft - 101- and a second
face -13- opposite the first face -11-. The second face -13- has elements -131- for
the connection by means of removable mechanical fastening by a system of loops and
hooks, or a Velcro-type fastening.
[0020] As observed in the figures, the second face has a frustoconical shape with a first
part -132- having a conical shape and preferred cone angle of between 3° and 5° and
a second transition or essentially planar part -133-.
[0021] In this case in particular, the disc furthermore comprises air through-holes -21-,
-31- located on the first face -11- and on the side surface defined between the first
face -11- and the second face -13-. Said through-holes -21-, - 31- are joined to one
another by means of ducts formed as grooves -301- made in the tool.
[0022] The diameter of the support will vary according to the user's needs, for example
115 mm, 125 mm, 150 mm, 138 mm.
[0023] In order to perform the surface treatment by means of said tool, a surface treatment
spare part -12- is mechanically fastened to its second face -13-, which spare part
is formed as a laminar element with a face for fastening to the tool and another face
for surface treatment, having a frustoconical shape essentially coinciding with the
frustoconical shape of the second face -13- of the tool -1-. Therefore, it has a preferred
cone angle of between 3° and 5°. The face for fastening to the tool will have a removable
system for mechanical fastening by contact coinciding with that of the tool, a fastening
system by means of loops and hooks, a Velcro-type system. The spare part can be formed
as a multilayer precut blank and with a suitable shaping having at least two layers,
one for fastening to the tool and another layer for suitable surface treatment (felt,
corundum, etc.).
[0024] As a result of the coinciding shape of the surface treatment spare part and the surface
treatment tool, this spare part also has a conical area -23-, -51- and an area with
an essentially smaller conicity, or with a generally planar shape -22-, -52-. Said
shape can be obtained by means of processes including precutting.
[0025] Figures 5 and 6 show two embodiments in which it can be seen how, due to the conicity,
the surface for the contact of the surface treatment spare part with the surface -102-
remains raised when the drive shaft -101- is inclined with respect to the surface
-102- to be treated.
[0026] Figure 7 shows a spare part -5- according to the present invention with a frustoconical
shape, with a planar base -52-. Said planar base can be a useful surface treatment
surface, or it can optionally have a central through-hole (not shown) which can have
several shapes (circular, triangular, hexagonal). Said through-hole will preferably
be joined with a pivot located in the second face of the tool, which will provide
easier and more accurate centering of the spare part. The inner surface -53- of the
spare part is a Velcro-type surface.
[0027] Although the invention has been described with respect to preferred embodiments,
such embodiments should not be considered as limiting of invention, which will be
defined by the broadest interpretation of the following claims.
