(54) Armchair-mattress with linked cushions

(57) An armchair-mattress with linked cushions consists of a plurality of cushions (1, 2, 3, 4), (10,20,30) which sequentially engage with each other, through cross angular joints (A,B,C), (A',B') made along concurrent edges of the lining fabrics thereof. Some or all of the cushions are turnable about said angular joints, folding according to different shaping: as an "armchair", with back and partial spreading as a "chaise longue", or in the shape of a "flat mattress" or "partially reclined".

Description

[0001] The invention relates to an armchair-mattress with linked cushions that sequentially constrain to each other through angular joints obtained along the intermediate concurrent edges of the lining fabrics.

[0002] In different configurations, it may comprise three or four linked cushions to take on the shape of a comfortable armchair, an armchair of the "chaise longue" type, a comfortable bed with straight or partially reclined mattress.

[0003] Many models of armchairs and/or sofa beds are currently known which are substantially made up of folding bearing structures, of wooden or metal with support bases, whereon single cushions or mattresses engage which, based on their opening or on their closing, take on the function of sofas and/or armchairs and/or beds.

[0004] It is also known that such furnishing components, despite their functionality, due to their convenience and their value from the point of view of interior design, exhibit the drawback of technically consisting of complex and quite expensive structures.

[0005] The object of this invention is to eliminate the above drawbacks by an armchair-mattress with linked cushions characterised according to what claimed in claim 1.

[0006] Further features are defined in the dependent claims.

[0007] The advantages achieved by the present invention essentially consist in that the armchair-mattress with linked cushions substantially consists of a plurality of cushions that engage with each other through angular joints, made along concurrent edges of the lining fabrics thereof, around which they are turnable, folding or spreading according to the desired configuration.

[0008] Another advantage consists in that the armchair-mattress with linked cushions according to the invention has no base frame but directly rests on the cushion structure thereof, optionally provided with a simple central stiff stabilisation footboard, with optional support feet.

[0009] A further advantage consists in that the armchair-mattress with linked cushions can be easily packaged in vacuum bags, making all the handling, transport and storage steps quicker and more inexpensive.

[0010] Yet another advantage consists in that the materials and/or the fabrics generally used for lining said cushions are formed as removable covers, allowing easy and practical maintenance and washability.

[0011] Thanks to such configurations, the armchair-mattress with linked cushions according to the invention is highly inexpensive while keeping the necessary and versatile functional features required, along with a high interior design quality.

[0012] Yet another advantage consists in that the structural concept of the armchair-mattress with linked cushions allows meeting both the traditional requirements of adults and those specific of children.

[0013] The invention is described in detail hereinafter, according to embodiments thereof given only by way of a non-limiting example, with reference to the attached drawings, wherein:

fig. 1 shows a perspective view of a generic armchair-mattress with four sequential cushions in the armchair configuration,

fig. 2 shows the overall side view of the armchair-mattress with four sequential cushions of figure 1 in the armchair configuration, associated to complementary elements such as traditional pillows and/or orthopaedic rollers,

fig. 3 shows a perspective view of the same armchair-mattress with four sequential cushions in the opening step, to take the flat mattress configuration,

fig. 4 shows the perspective view of the same armchair-mattress with four sequential cushions in a fully open position, with flat mattress or bed configuration,

fig. 5 shows the side view of a different position of the armchair-mattress with four sequential cushions, only partially open and combined with pillow and orthopaedic roller in "chaise longue" configuration,

figs. 6, 6', 6" show different positions of the armchair-mattress with four sequential cushions in a fully open position, with accessories, for different uses,

fig. 7 shows the perspective view of a generic armchair-mattress with three linked cushions in the simple armchair configuration,

fig. 8 shows the perspective view of the armchair-mattress with three linked cushions of figure 7 in the configuration with back and cushion, as a "chaise-longue", and

fig. 9 shows the perspective view of the same armchair-mattress with three linked cushions in the relax configuration, with partially reclined mattress.

[0014] With reference to the figures, the arm-chairs mattress with three or four linked cushions have no internal stiff structure but consist of a series of generally parallelepiped cushions combined with other cushions with even partially reclined and/or shaped shapes, in any case complementary in support and/or in reciprocal linking.

[0015] Said cushions are generally made of high-density foamed polyurethane, or the like, and are interconnected to one another by joints made on the outer linings thereof, made of fabric, leather, alcantara micro-fibres and/or other material.

[0016] The armchair-mattress with four linked cushions comprises a first cushion (1) that constitutes the resting base on the floor, optionally associated to a lower central stiff stabilisation footboard (100), with optional feet; a second cushion (2) couples therewith at the front, which in the "armchair" configuration constitutes the seat, arranging on top of the first cushion (1), whereas in the "flat mattress" configuration arranges as front extension of the first cushion (1).

[0017] Said cushions are connected by a first angular joint (A) made crosswise between the concurrent edges of the lining fabric, top front of the cushion (1) and bottom back of the cushion (2).

[0018] Likewise, the top back cross edge of the lining fabric of the same base cushion (1) engages with the bottom back cross edge of the lining fabric of a third cushion (3) through a second angular joint (B).

[0019] Said third cushion (3), in the "armchair" configuration, aligns with the back part of the seat formed by the second cushion (2) and constitutes the base support of a back formed by a fourth cushion (4), whereas in the "flat mattress" configuration it arranges as first back extension of the first cushion (1).

[0020] Said fourth cushion (4), in turn, enters in cross connection relation with said third cushion (3) through a third angular joint (C) made on the lining fabric comprised between the bottom front edge of the same cushion (4) and the top front one of the cushion (3).

[0021] In the "armchair" configuration, the cushion (4) arranges aligned on top of the cushion (3), forming said back, whereas in the "flat mattress" configuration it arranges as second back extension of the first cushion (1), following said third cushion (3). In substance, in the "armchair" version, cushions (2) and (3) align on top of the cushion (1), forming the seat, whereas the cushion (4) arranges on top of that (3) forming the back.

[0022] In the "flat mattress" version all cushions align at the level of the first one in the sequence (2, 1, 3, 4) forming a single longitudinal body whereon it is possible to comfortably lay down, as on a bed.

[0023] It should be noted that the shapes described refer to the limit conditions of maximum closing and maximum opening.

[0024] In figure 5, by simply tilting the cushion (2), in alignment with that (1) and with the aid of a pillow (5) and optionally an orthopaedic roller (6) resting against the back formed by the superimposed cushions (3, 4), the armchair-mattress with linked cushions changes into a comfortable one of the "chaise longue" type.

[0025] In figures 6 and 6' the fully spread out mattress with a single pillow (5), or with a pillow combined with an orthopaedic roller (6) takes on the shape of a flat bed with simple or anti-cervical head rest.

[0026] In figure 6", an orthopaedic roller (6) may be used underneath said cushions (3, 4) of the mattress for increasing the lift, independent or associated to a pillow (5), of the head of people laying down; various positions of one or more orthopaedic rollers allow keeping the knees and/or the ankles lifted relative to the supine position.

[0027] For a higher stability of the back, in the "armchair" configuration it is possible to apply straps (7), at the external sides of the cushion (3), provided with coupling means, such as for example self-hooking strips (8), generally known by the name of "Velcro" or other type, such as buttons, that engage in the bottom part of the cushion (1).

[0028] It is noted, moreover, that the same configuration described and illustrated can be obtained, in an easy and inexpensive manner, for single- or double-width "armchairs-mattresses".

[0029] With the same technology, the armchair-mattress with three linked cushions is described and illustrated with reference to a version having partially reclined mattress.

[0030] In the "armchair" configuration (figure 7), a cushion (20), arranged on top of the front flat part (10') of a first cushion (10) which also comprises a second back part (10") inclined upwards, forms the seat (20'), whereas a third cushion (30), shaped with almost triangular section with top joint, constitutes the back. In the armchair configuration with back (30) and cushion for stretched out legs, of the "chaise longue" type, said cushion (20) tips over, arranging as front extension of the same first cushion (10), rotating about a first angular joint (A') again made crosswise on the lining fabrics of the cushions, between the concurrent edges, top front of the first one (10) and back bottom of the second one (20).

[0031] Said second portion with upward inclined surface (10") develops from the back part of the flat portion (10') of the cushion (10), which in the configurations described above constitutes the support base of the third cushion (30), the shape whereof with an approximately triangular section forms the back, both in the "armchair" version and in the "chaise longue" version. Similar to said angular joint (A'), the top back cross edge of the lining fabric of the base cushion (10) engages with the bottom back cross edge of the lining fabric of the third back-cushion (30); such engagement between complementary edges forms a second angular joint (B'). In the "mattress" configuration, the back-cushion (30) tips backwards as back extension of the first cushion (10), with the base thereof (30') that arranges in inclined alignment with said second portion with upward inclined surface (10") of the same cushion (10), whereas said tilted cushion (20) remains arranged as front extension of the same first cushion (10).

[0032] In the "partially reclined mattress" version it is possible to obtain a further configuration on the surfaces of said aligned cushions (10, 20, 30), with the sequential support parts extending along a first horizontal front zone (20, 10') followed by a second upward inclined zone (10", 30'), forming a top flat support surface followed by a partial inclined surface, whereon a slight longitudinal concavity (50) may be made, which constitutes an impression of extended and comfortable position for relax.

[0033] Finally, while the armchair-mattress with three or four linked cushions, with flat or partially reclined mattress is described with reference to cushions of substantially traditional shape, it may be made, by the same principles, with cushions having different shapes and/or proportions, such as for example with reference to embodiments for children, shaped as animals, flowers and/or patterns.
