(57) A method for controlling the speed of a vehicle (1); the control method envisages the steps of: determining a current stretch of a path of the vehicle (1); determining a recommended maximum speed (VMAX) for the current stretch of the path of the vehicle (1); determining a coefficient (kS) of static saving, which is variable and depends upon the wishes of the driver; and determining an optimal speed (VO) for the current stretch of the path of the vehicle (1) as a function of the corresponding recommended maximum speed (VMAX) and of the coefficient (kS) of static saving.
