BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0001] The present invention relates to a semifinished product construction for making window
and door frames.
[0002] As is known, window and door frames conventionally comprise wood, steel or aluminium
materials or alloys thereof, made of either non contoured or contoured section members,
or also made of a plastic material.
[0003] Prior methods for making the above window and door frames comprise several processing
steps involving a comparatively high amount of waste materials, in addition to requiring
a high capability and skillness by the making or assembling operator.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0004] Accordingly, the aim of the present invention is to provide a semifinished product
allowing to easily make finished window and door frames while reducing to a minimum
the required operations and waste processing materials.
[0005] Within the scope of the above mentioned aim, a main object of the invention is to
provide such a semifinished product allowing to easily and quickly make window and
door frames, thereby providing an improved safe product, without the need of performing
additional processing operations, such as painting operations, on the semifinished
material.
[0006] Another object of the present invention is to provide such a semifinished product
construction allowing the makers of combined wood-wood, wood and wood/aluminium material
window and door frames to achieve a very high selling and managing operating flexibility
with respect to finished bar or rod elements, for any desired amount of finished products
to be used in their frame making operations.
[0007] Another object of the present invention is to provide such a semifinished product
construction which further allows the wood window and door frame makers to simply
manage the semifinished products, without waste and in an environmental advantageous
manner.
[0008] Another object of the present invention is to provide such a semifinished product
construction which, owing to its specifically designed features, is very reliable
and safe in operation.
[0009] According to one aspect of the present invention, the above mentioned aim and objects,
as well as yet other objects, which will become more apparent hereinafter, are achieved
by a semifinished product construction for making window and door frames,
characterized in that said semifinished product construction comprises a finished section member adapted
to be cut and directly joined to like section members by plug-in coupling means to
provide a finished window or door frame.
[0010] More specifically, for wood window and door frames, said semifinished product construction
comprises two different types of wood section members, a first wood section member,
either in a block form or in a veneer coated form, with wood sheared pieces for the
inner side, and a second block section member, which is suitably processed by an impregnating
paint, for the outer side.
[0011] The outer section members and inner section members being joined to one another by
a direct plug-in coupling system, and being supplied in a painted and finished assembling
ready condition.
[0012] Thus, the invention provides a semifinished product construction allowing to reduce
to a minimum the required making operations and waste deriving from the processing
steps.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
[0014] With reference to the number references of the above mentioned figures, the semifinished
product construction according to the present invention, which has been generally
indicated by the reference number 1, comprises a component element which, as is made
of a wood material, includes two different types of wood section members that is a
first wood section member, either in a block form or in a veneer coated form, with
wood sheared pieces for the inner side, and a second block section member, which is
suitably processed by an impregnating paint, for the outer side.
[0015] Said outer and inner section members being joined to one another by a direct plug-in
coupling system, and being accordingly supplied in a painted and finished assembling
ready condition.
[0016] The figures show a coupling system for coupling two section members for making a
window or door frame.
[0017] More specifically, the herein shown coupling system comprises a shaped tenon 2 and
mortise 3 assembly, including a contoured tenon member 2 formed on a section member,
and a mortise element 3, formed on the other section member to be coupled to the first
section member.
[0018] In the embodiment being herein disclosed, the contoured tenon element 2 and mortise
element 3 are formed on respective surfaces 4, slanted at 45°, formed at respective
end portions of the section member.
[0019] Advantageously, said tenon and mortise elements have a S shape or a rounded L shape,
or any other curved or angled contour, to provide the coupling or connecting arrangement
with an improved mechanical strength.
[0020] The coupling surfaces of the section members could also have differently cut coupling
angles.
[0021] Moreover, the shape and sizes of the above tenon elements and related mortise elements
can be changed according to requirements and as preferred by their maker.
[0022] The coupling method, in addition to using angular plug-in coupling arrangements,
also provides to form the connection or coupling by perpendicular plug-in elements,
that is by forming a 90° angle with respect to one another.
[0023] This may be achieved by using a tenon element and a corresponding mortise element
having a substantially rectilinear arrangement, as shown in figure 8.
[0024] Thus, the construction according to the present invention allows to provide a completed
semifinished product, allowing to reduce to a minimum the operations required for
making the finished product, thereby providing a finished window or door frame, while
limiting to a minimum the waste materials.
[0025] Moreover, the inventive semifinished product construction allows to make wood window
and door frames in a very simple manner since the invention provides an advanced and
safe product, without the need of performing additional processing operations thereon,
such as painting and the like.
[0026] For an aluminium window and door frame, the inventive semifinished product construction
allows the window and door frame makers to achieve a very high operating flexibility,
since they may buy already finished bar or rod components, for any desired amounts
of semifinished product construction.
[0027] In making wood window and door frames, the inventive semifinished product construction,
moreover, may be simply managed without waste and in an advantageously favorable environmental
manner.
[0028] The present invention further relates to a method for making window and door frames,
which method comprises the step of making said window and door frames by a direct
type of plug-in operation with either an angled or a straight junction to provide
window and door frames of a broad range of wood/wood and wood/aluminium window and
door frame arrangements.
[0029] The method according to the present invention, in particular, comprises the step
of performing a mechanical type of processing step which is carried out on head portions
of finished section members, thereby allowing to achieve an east assembling and a
very high tightness thereof.
[0030] The above mentioned operations, in particular, can be carried out by using a wood
machining machine tool, designed for forming on the head portion of the section member
a female cavity and a male plug-in element, to allow the two section members to be
easily and quickly connected.
[0031] The elements forming the window and door frames are firmly coupled to one another
by applying in said female cavity a high strength glueing material which, upon contacting
the wood, will provide an improved connection tightness.
[0032] Moreover, to provide firm couplings of the section members, that is of the male and
female coupling fittings, a high strength glueing material, preferably of a single
component polyurethane type, free of solvent materials and shrinkage problems is advantageously
used.
[0033] Said glueing materials, in particular, will be cured under atmospheric moisture thereby
providing a glued connection of very high strength, resistant to water, high temperatures
and ageing.
[0034] It has been found that the invention fully achieves the intended aim and objects.
[0035] In practicing the invention, the used materials, as well as the contingent size and
