(54) Process of oxidative conversion of methanol


(57) A process for preparing polyoxymethylene dimethyl ether from methanol has been developed. The process involves contact-reacting methanol with oxidant in the presence of a catalyst wherein the catalyst comprises at least one Group VIB metal component in an amount of from about 0.5 to about 50 wt% (in terms of metal oxide) and at least one Group VIII metal component in an amount of from about 0.2 to about 20 wt% (in terms of metal oxide), and at least one molecular sieve having acid catalytic activity in an amount of from about 40 to about 95 wt%, based on the total weight of the catalyst.
