(57) A cleaner head for a cleaning appliance, comprising a housing (12) having an air outlet (18), a rotary brush bar assembly (100) located within a chamber (102) of the housing, the chamber having an air outlet (130) which is in fluid communication with the air outlet (18) of the housing (12), and a drive mechanism (107) for driving the brush bar assembly, the drive mechanism (107) extending into the chamber (102) between first and second side walls (110, 112) of the chamber, wherein the brush bar assembly comprises a first brush bar section (114) located within a first section (102a) of the chamber between the drive mechanism (107) and the first side wall (110) of the chamber, and a second brush bar section (116) located within a second section (102b) of the chamber between the drive mechanism (107) and the second side wall (112) of the chamber, and wherein the air outlet (130) of the chamber extends between and into both sections (102a, 102b) of the chamber (102).
