(57) There is described a method for moving a reel (2) of packaging material from a storage station (3) to a supply station (4) of a packaging unit (5), comprising the steps of clamping a peripheral edge (6) of reel (2) by using a pair of clamping elements (10) of a clamping unit (1), rotating clamping elements (10) relative to said reel (2), and supporting said reel (2) on the pair of clamping elements (10) by interacting with a portion (7) of reel (2) radially inner with respect to circumferential edge (6).
