(57) The hearing device (1) is MIDI-compatible, wherein MIDI stands for Musical Instrument Digital Interface. The hearing device (1) can be adapted to communicating and/or loading and/or storing and/or interpreting and/or generating data (20) compliant with the MIDI Protocol, also referred to as MIDI messages (20). Acknowledge sounds (6) of the hearing device (1) an be controlled by MIDI data (20), or music can be played to a user of the hearing device (1) based on MIDI data (20). The hearing device (1) can be a hearing aid, a headphone, an earphone, a hearing protection device (1), a communication device (1) or the like.
