[0001] The present invention relates to a housing, particularly for accommodating winding
rollers for awnings and the like.
[0002] Nowadays, in the sector of makers of awnings, particularly for outdoor use, the problem
of fixing the housing containing the winding roller of the awning to a support is
perceived.
[0003] This is because the orientation of the housing is imposed by the direction in which
the awning must be extended and retracted.
[0004] Therefore, the housing must be installed in such a way that the face of it that contains
the slot for the exit and re-entry of the awning faces this direction.
[0005] Depending on the shape of the seat where the housing is to be installed, it can be
supported by a section of wall or ceiling, for example defined by the lower face of
a ledge or of a cornice.
[0006] Therefore, since the slot of the housing is to be provided in its lower face, the
housing itself must be provided with fixings either on its upper face or on its lower
face depending on the shape of the available support.
[0007] Currently, this variability of supports is catered for by providing alternative housing
structures, one with fixings on the upper face and the other with fixings on the lower
face, to the detriment of economy of production and of handling the logistics of the
two different models offered in this way.
[0008] Moreover, the maker of housings has to meet the requirement that the structure of
the fixing of the housing to its support be masked, since in general it is not aesthetically
appreciated.
[0009] DE 26 01 663 A1 discloses a blind box having a combination of structural features as set forth in
the preamble of the appended claim 1.
[0010] The aim of the present invention is to provide a housing, particularly for accommodating
winding rollers for awnings and the like, which is flexible in installation by being
adapted to be fixed alternatively at a face thereof which in use is arranged either
on top or laterally.
[0011] Within this aim, an object of the invention is to provide a housing that makes it
possible to effectively mask the fixing to its support.
[0012] Another object of the invention is to provide a housing that can be assembled simply
and easily during installation.
[0013] A further object of the invention is to provide a housing that is structurally simple
and easy to use, and which can be produced at relatively low cost.
[0014] In accordance with the invention, there is provided a housing, particularly for accommodating
winding rollers for awnings and the like, as defined in the appended claims.
[0015] Further characteristics and advantages of the invention will become better apparent
from the description of preferred, but not exclusive, embodiments of the housing according
to the invention, illustrated by way of non-limiting example in the accompanying drawings,
wherein:
Figure 1 is an end elevation view of a housing, according to the invention, in the
first configuration;
Figure 2 is an end elevation view of a housing, according to the invention, in the
second configuration;
Figure 3 is an end elevation view of a housing, according to the invention, in the
second configuration, implemented in a second embodiment;
Figure 4 is an end elevation view of a housing, according to the invention, in the
second configuration, implemented in a third embodiment;
Figure 5 is an end elevation view of a housing, according to the invention, in the
second configuration, implemented in a fourth embodiment.
[0016] With reference to the figures, in a first embodiment of the invention, the reference
numeral 10 generally designates a housing, particularly for accommodating winding
rollers for awnings and the like, which has a lower face 11 that is open for the passage
of an awning wound reversibly on a roller 12 accommodated therein.
[0017] According to the invention, the housing 10 comprises two complementary profiles 13
and 14, a first one 13 of which has a first wall 15 adapted for fixing to a support
16, as will be better described hereinbelow, the profiles 13 and 14 being provided
with a mating assembly 17 and with respective complementary mating parts 18a and 18b
which define for them two alternative mating configurations in which the lower face
11 is opposite or, respectively, adjacent to the first wall 15, so as to allow the
installation of the housing 10 respectively on a ceiling or wall.
[0018] Specifically, the housing 10 comprises
- the first profile 13, composed of two substantially perpendicular adjacent walls 15
and 19,
- a second profile 14, which is substantially complementary to the first profile 13
to mate with it during use, so that a receptacle 20 is formed between them which is
adapted to accommodate the winding roller 12 for awnings and the like,
- a bracket 21 which is adapted for the association of the housing 10 with a support
16, for example by means of screw anchors, not shown, the bracket 21 being provided
with elements, respectively 22a and 22b, for connection to complementary connection
parts 23 and 24 which are provided on a first wall 15 of the walls 15 and 19, locking
means 26 being provided which are adapted to lock the first profile 13 to the bracket
21, and which can be reversibly actuated from one side 21 a of the bracket 21.
[0019] Moreover, according to the invention, at a flap 27 of the second profile 14, the
mating assembly 17 is provided, which is adapted to mate with the complementary mating
parts 18a and 18b, which are provided on the first profile 13 in such a way that the
profiles 13 and 14 can mate mutually in a stable and reversible manner, according
to the alternative configurations, namely
- a first configuration in which the mating assembly 17 is mated with a first one 18a,
of the complementary mating parts 18a and 18b, provided at a first lateral edge 13a
of the first profile 13, the end 27a of the flap 27 protruding with respect to the
first edge 13a so as to mask the side 21a of the bracket 21, as illustrated for the
purposes of non-limiting example in Figure 1,
- a second configuration in which the mating assembly 17 is mated with a second one
18b of the complementary mating parts 18a and 18b, provided at the second lateral
edge 13b of the first profile 13, the first profile 13, in the second configuration,
being reversed with respect to its arrangement when it is in the first configuration,
as illustrated for the purposes of non-limiting example in Figure 2.
[0020] According to contingent requirements, in alternative embodiments of the invention,
which are equally useful, and which are not further described herein or illustrated
in the accompanying drawings, in general at least one bracket is provided.
[0021] Preferably, the connecting elements 22a and 22b face each other so as to accommodate
between them the complementary connection parts 23 and 24 that protrude longitudinally
from the first wall 15.
[0022] A first one 22a of the connecting elements 22a and 22b conveniently forms a retention
undercut for a complementarily shaped first one 23 of the complementary connection
parts 23 and 24.
[0023] The second one 22b of the connecting elements 22a and 22b conveniently has a seat
28 for a threaded element 29 that forms the locking means 26.
[0024] Obviously, in alternative embodiments of the invention, according to contingent requirements,
in general at least one seat and at least one threaded element are provided.
[0025] The second one 24 of the complementary connection parts 23 and 24 is conveniently
adapted to be engaged by pushing by the threaded element 29 which is screwed into
the seat 28 so as to retain the first complementary connection part 23 so that it
pushes against the first connecting element 22a.
[0026] The second wall 19 is preferably extended so as to protrude beyond its connection
30 with the first wall 15 so as to shield laterally, during use, the first connecting
element 22a mated with the first complementary connection part 23.
[0027] Advantageously, the mating assembly 17 comprises two curved fins 31 and 32, longitudinal
to the flap 27 and protruding inside the second profile 14, in proximity to the end
27a of the flap 27.
[0028] The first complementary mating part 18a is conveniently shaped so as to accommodate
by interlocking a first one 31 of the fins 31 and 32, in the first configuration.
[0029] The second complementary mating part 18b conveniently has two receptacles 33 and
34 for the fins 31 and 32, which are adapted to receive them by insertion, in the
second configuration, so as to retain the second profile 14 to the first profile 13.
[0030] The second profile 14 is preferably composed of a third wall 35 and a fourth wall
36, which are substantially perpendicular to each other, the third wall 35 being provided
with the mating assembly 17.
[0031] The fourth wall 36 forms, during use, in cooperation with the second edge 13b of
the first profile 13, a slot 37 for the extension from the housing 10 of an awning
wound onto the roller 12, which is not shown in the accompanying figures.
[0032] A second and a third embodiment of the invention are illustrated for the purposes
of non-limiting example in Figures 3 and 4, where the same reference numerals designate
the technical elements corresponding to those described up to here for the housing
10, and which therefore are not described again and/or are not further described.
[0033] In the second and third embodiments of the invention, the corresponding housings,
designated in Figures 3 and 4 respectively with 100 and 200, have a cambered third
wall 35 and fourth wall 36.
[0034] A housing 300, in a fourth embodiment of the invention, is illustrated for the purposes
of non-limiting example in Figure 5, where the same reference numerals designate the
technical elements corresponding to those described up to here for the housings 10,
100 and 200, and which therefore are not described again and/or are not further described.
[0035] The third wall 35 and the fourth wall 36 of the housing 300 are conveniently connected
to each other by a curved portion 38.
[0036] Furthermore, the housings 10, 100 and 300, respectively implemented according to
the first, second and fourth embodiments of the invention, preferably have a second
wall 19 which is substantially flat, differently from the housing 200, implemented
in the third embodiment of the invention, where conveniently the second wall 19 is
substantially cambered.
[0037] The use of a housing 10, 100, 200 or 300, according to the invention, is as follows.
[0038] If the support 16 is formed by a ceiling, then the housings 10, 100, 200 or 300 are
assembled according to the first configuration.
[0039] Specifically, the operator fixes the bracket 21 to the support 16 for example by
means of screw anchors.
[0040] Then the first profile 13 is connected by inserting the complementary connection
parts 23 and 24 between the connecting elements 22a and 22b, where they are locked
by means of the threaded element 29.
[0041] Then, the operator inserts the first fin 31 into the first complementary mating part
18a, thus joining the second profile 14 to the first profile 13, which thus supports
it.
[0042] Advantageously the first fin 31 and the first complementary mating part 18a have
a common curvature that is such as to define a first rotation axis for the second
profile 14 with respect to the first profile 13, not shown in the accompanying figures,
about which the second profile 14 oscillates following the insertion of the first
fin 31 into the first complementary mating part 18a.
[0043] In this way, the end 27a of the flap 27 stays close to the support 16, thus masking
from view the bracket 21 and its connection to the first profile 13.
[0044] On the other hand, if the support 16 is formed by a wall, then the housings 10, 100,
200 or 300 are assembled according to the second configuration.
[0045] In this case, the operator fixes the bracket 21 to the support 16, for example by
means of screw anchors, and the first profile 13 is connected by inserting the complementary
connection parts 23 and 24 between the connecting elements 22a and 22b, where they
are locked by means of the threaded element 29.
[0046] Then, the operator inserts the second fin 32 in a first one 33 of the receptacles
33 and 34, which, advantageously, together with the second fin 32 has a common curvature
defining a second rotation axis for the second profile 14 with respect to the first
profile 13, not shown in the accompanying figures, about which the second profile
14 oscillates following the insertion of the second fin 31 into the first receptacle
33.
[0047] In practice it has been found that the invention fully achieves the intended aim
and objects by providing a housing, particularly for accommodating winding rollers
for awnings and the like, which is flexible in installation, thanks to the fact that
the first profile, fixed to a ceiling or to a wall, can be joined to the second profile,
so as to form the housing, according to two alternative configurations, so that a
housing is obtained which, according to the mutual configuration of the profiles that
comprise it, can be alternatively supported by a ceiling or by a wall.
[0048] Furthermore, a housing according to the invention makes it possible to effectively
mask the fixing to its support, and indeed in both of the configurations the profiles
that make up the housing closely embrace the support, thus masking the bracket that
supports the first profile.
[0049] What is more, a housing according to the invention can be simply and easily assembled
at installation time and is therefore also structurally simple and easy to use and
can be produced at relatively low cost.
[0050] In practice the materials employed, as well as the contingent dimensions and shapes,
may be any according to requirements and to the state of the art.
[0051] Where technical features mentioned in any claim are followed by reference signs,
such reference signs have been inserted for the sole purpose of increasing the intelligibility
of the claims and accordingly such reference signs do not have any limiting effect
on the interpretation of each element identified by way of example by such reference
signs.
