(57) A method for determining the occupation state of a parking space, including the steps of: providing a first unit (31;38) with a radar (32;32a) and a second unit (38;31) having a reception band; individually selecting (700) each logic value of a code, alternatively indicating the parking space or a vehicle, and transmitting (740,770), via the radar, a corresponding portion of a first signal (Ic1;Ic2), the frequency of which is modulated on the basis of a periodic signal (saw1(t);saw2(t)) within a transmission band ([fmin_Ic1, fmax_Ic1]) at least partially overlapping the reception band if the selected logic value is a first logic value, or otherwise outside of the reception band; demodulating (180;340;470;510), the first code by means of the second unit, starting from the first signal; acquiring a second code, alternatively indicating a vehicle or the parking space; and determining (200;360;490;580) the occupation state of the parking space, on the basis of the first and the second codes.
