(54) Device for loosening of a detachable motor part that is jammed in a cylinder head of a motor

(57) Device for loosening of a detachable motor part, such as an injection nozzle (1) or similar, that is jammed in a cylinder head of a motor, comprising the socket wrench (5) with hexagonal recesses that is known as such, as well as at least two insert pieces (4) that can be inserted in the recess of the socket wrench for adapting the size of the socket wrench to the motor part, wherein each insert piece comprises a surface that during use of the device for loosening the motor part is in contact therewith, and is shaped in conformity to at least part (6) of the external circumference of the motor part.

Description

[0001] The invention relates to a device for loosening of a detachable motor part, such as an injection nozzle or similar, that is jammed in a cylinder head of a motor, comprising a socket wrench with a hexagonal recess that is known as such, as well as at least to insert two peaces that can be inserted in the hexagonal recess of the socket wrench for adjusting the size of the socket wrench to the motor part.

[0002] Such a socket wrench with a hexagonal recess in which at least two insert peaces can be taken up is known from EP-A-0 606 523.

[0003] Although the invention in general can be used for loosening any motor parts, the invention is in particularly suitable for application with injection nozzles. The following explanation of the invention is therefore with reference to the use of the device with loosening an injection nozzle. However it is explicitly pointed out that the invention is not limited to this and can also be used for loosening another motor part.

[0004] Injection nozzles are inserted in bores in the cylinder head of combustion engines, and comprise essentially a nose part and an upper part. The nose part sits deep in the cylinder head, the upper part protrudes out of the cylinder head and the valve housing cover, and often comprises a connection for a pulling device and a recess for an open-end wrench.

[0005] When an injection nozzle gets defected and needs to be replaced, the injection nozzle can be pulled out of the cylinder head of a combustion engine by using a pulling device. However, this can give problems, because during use combustion gasses can get between the injection nozzle and the cylinder head. With this, small particles, such as soot particles from these combusting gasses, can get stuck between the injection nozzle and the cylinder head. Also in the course of time corrosion can occur between the injection nozzle and the cylinder head that can cause adhesion to take place between the injection nozzle and the cylinder head. This corrosion can be oxygen corrosion that is accelerated by the high temperatures, but can also be corrosion that is caused by stray currents. Further dirt particles that mainly occur at the edges, can contribute to the injection nozzle getting stuck in the cylinder head.

[0006] By the circumstances mentioned, the pulling out of the injection nozzle from the cylinder head can considerably be hampered. A further complication is caused by the circumstance that the injection nozzle is enclosed by the valve housing cover, which in many cases renders it impossible to utilize the open-end wrench recesses.

[0007] With all this it is important that the injection nozzle can be pulled out of the cylinder head as a whole. In removing an injection nozzle it can happen that the exerted pulling force is higher than the material strength. If this too high pulling force is exerted, the nose part will tear loose of the upper part and all internal parts remain behind in the cylinder head. In that case the cylinder head needs to be dismounted from the motor and attempts have to be made to remove the injection nozzle or the remains thereof with other means.

[0008] The invention aims to provide that dismounting of a (defect) injection nozzle from a cylinder head can take place in situ and without the injection nozzle breaking, without the necessity to dismount the cylinder head from the motor.

[0009] The device according to the invention is characterized by one or more of the attached patent claims.

[0010] In a first aspect of the invention the device is characterized in that each insert comprises a surface, that during use of the device for loosening of the motor part is in contact therewith, and is shaped in conformity of at least part of the external circumference of the motor part. Herewith can be assured that in an effective way a loosening moment can be exerted on this motor part.

[0011] The effectiveness of the device according the invention, for use in loosening a motor part that comprises an essentially cylindrically shaped external circumference that comprises recesses for a open end wrench, can in particular be increased by an embodiment in which the surface of each insert comprises a first surface part, that forms at least part of a cylinder casing, as well as an second surface part, contiguous to the first surface part, that fittingly can be inserted in at least one of the recesses for the open-end wrench.

[0012] It is preferred that the at least two insert peaces can fittingly to each other be inserted in the recess of the socket wrench. This reduces the number of necessary parts and nevertheless assures an effective transfer of forces from the socket wrench to the motor part.

[0013] When nevertheless this is considered desirable, it is also possible that the at least two insert peaces are embodied in more parts, that together form the at least two insert peaces.

[0014] In using the device according the invention for loosening of an injection nozzle, in this way is reached, that the two insert peaces can engage at the lower side with the recess for an open-end wrench at the upper part of the injection nozzle, the insert peaces together having externally a hexagonal shape over which a socket wrench, that in itself is known, with a hexagonal recess can be slid. In this way the upper part can be unscrewed from the nose part, after which the remaining nose part subsequently can be removed using known techniques for which the applicant already possesses pending patent applications.

[0015] The invention will now further be explained using a single example of an embodiment, that does not limit the invention in any way, and with reference to the attached drawing.

[0016] The drawing shows:
  • figure 1 a schematically perspective view of an injection nozzle mounted in a cylinder head;
  • figure 2 a schematically exploded view of the device according to the invention;
  • figure 3 a detailed view of a preferred embodiment of an insert piece that can be used as part of the device according to the invention.

[0017] When in the figures the same reference numbers are used, these reference numbers refer to the same part.

[0018] Figure 1 shows injection nozzle 1 in mounted condition, the injection nozzle 1 being placed in the cylinder head 2 of a motor. The upper part of the injection nozzle 1 protrudes here through valve housing cover 3 of the motor. Also in this figure 1 it is already visible that the upper part of the injection nozzle 1 comprises a recess 6 for an open end wrench.

[0019] Figure 2 shows an exploded view with insert peaces 4, the socket wrench 5 in which these insert peaces 4 need to be inserted for use, as well as the upper part of the injection nozzle of which the recess 6 for an open-end wrench is clearly visible, and with which upper part the insert peaces 4 during use are in contact for effective transfer of a moment to be exerted with the socket wrench 5 on the upper part of the injection nozzle.

[0020] For the sake of clarity figure 3 shows in detail one of the insert peaces 4 according to the invention to be used, where it clearly can be seen that the surface of this insert piece 4 comprises a first surface part 4' that forms at least part of a cylindrical casing, and contiguous to this first surface part 4', the second surface part 4" that fittingly can be inserted in at least one of the recesses 6.

[0021] It will be clear for a person skilled in the art, that modifications and adjustments are possible to the device described in this application, without deviating from the essence of the invention. Such modifications and adjustment are therefore considered to be included in the invention that is defined in the attached patent claims.
