(54) Portable electronic device with an audio jack configurator


(57) A portable electronic device providing an audio jack configurator includes a processor provided in a housing, a jack being sized for receiving a plug of an audio accessory and having electrical connectors for enabling communication between the audio accessory and the processor, the electrical connectors for contacting corresponding electrical connectors of the plug, a switching circuit in communication with the processor and the electrical connectors, the switching circuit for determining a pin-out of the plug and routing signals between ungrounded ones of the corresponding electrical connectors of the plug and the processor and software stored on the device to allow a user to select different pin-out options for the jack.
