(57) The present invention relates to a remote monitoring system for monitoring elderly
people, children, domestic animals, livestock, groups of people, property or the like
in a home-like facility such as home, holiday home, nursing home or other similar
facility. The invention aims at solving the problem how an object to be monitored
can be monitored unnoticed in a home-like facility without violating the monitored
object's privacy, how to collect information on the monitored object's condition and
health, and how any changes demanding action in the monitored object's state can be
detected early enough. The remote monitoring system according to the present invention
comprises data collecting means placed in the monitored facility and a data processing
arrangement operationally connected to the data collecting means to aggregate the
data produced by the data collecting means. The remote monitoring system is adapted
to process the data collected by the data collecting means, to store other information
external to the monitored object, to identify the monitored object's routines in the
processed data and to learn them, to detect deviations in the monitored object's routines
based on the routines thus learned and/or said other information, and to give an alarm
if the deviations exceed predefined thresholds.
