(57) A radiographic apparatus for breast examination is provided, the apparatus including
a shielding plate that reliably shields radiation derived from the trunk and is not
obstructive upon inserting a breast into a detector ring. The shield plate has a thickness
that varies depending on portions thereof. That is, the shield plate has a thick portion
that is thick in a central axis direction of the detector ring, and a thin portion
that is thin in the central axis direction. Such thick portion of the shield plate
can absorb radiation reliably that is emitted a lot from a heart of a subject. Moreover,
in the thin portion, a distance between the subject and the detector ring can be closer.
Therefore, the apparatus can obtain a clear tomographic image containing an entire
image of the breast.
